How to fight a warrior?Follow

#1 Mar 06 2007 at 4:05 AM Rating: Decent
My hunter got a problem fighting with a warrior. Usually i will aimed shot after that the warrior will charge towards me (below me there will be a frost trap. i will aspect cheetah run back and do another aimed shot (with hawk up back again). he will try to charge again i will do a wing clip and stoneform to get his hamstring off me and run away with cheetah ( as far as possible and kite him again. he will try to chase me after that and try to throw a scatter and shoot again. This cycle is repeated bt in the end in still died because i cannot get my range and shoot him and warrior is horribly strong melee campared to a hunter. and my shots are always so weak against his insanely thick skin (i mean armour). and my pet at best with me could only take down him to 1/4. This kind of things makes me lose a couple of times in AV and AB. Care to share?

Imo you need to radically change your strat.

Don't bother with aimed unless he is in a trap, cheetah is very dangerous because any serious pvper will shoot his bow/gun/thrown and daze you.

Warriors are relativelly easy to kill as long as you kite them all the time with wing clips, concussive shots, FROST traps NOT FREEZING so you can keep a DoT on him, arcane shots and the occasional scattershot if he gets too close.
They are really not hard to beat if you have enough space to move, the only problem is if they are MS pvp speced they can get insane crits with a 2hander.

In fact I'd say protection speced warriors in tanking gear are the hardest as they have loads of armor, loads of health and will dogde/block/parry your wingclips all the time.

I'd say change to Beastmaster spec for pvp, mm is pve only unless u dont wanna rape every class 1v1. Im 41,13,7 spec with 5/5 imp con & 2/3 imp wing clip. u dont need neither u beat a warrior with bm spec but it helps. I just start with beastial wrath, intimidation, then charge at him while he's stunned & wing clip till its successful. Then get out of range, blow rapid killing, berserking, & kite him ez. And if he's not dead by the time beastial wrath is off (which all non-prot wars should be), freezing trap >> get far from him & aim shot>conc>multi>arcane>>serpent. & i'd be sure 2 be using horde of the insignia to remove his hamstring if he gets one on u, & if he does, make sure to wing clip him before you blow the trinket & run from him n kite again. By then he's always dead. -Also im 3/3 imp aspect of monkey which helps alot. I have like 28% dodge with it, so i'd reccomend that when fighting physical dmgers.

You can beat a warrior even with MM spec.

Frost Trap, DOT, Concussive Shot, Arcane, Multi....every time the warrior gets close hit scatter shot.

Forget aimed shot. That is a luxury in pvp. Stick to arcane and multi-shot.

For god-sake. Don't use aspect of the monkey while fighting a warr. This will give him a perfect chance to use overpower wich is equal to dead hunter

Ah yes, sorry about the aspect of monkey advice vs. wars. I dont have any other classes skills/talents mesmorized by heart & didnt know about Overpower. But anyways I been using aspect of the monkey every fight vs. warriors, guess ill stop now. But if I was able 2 beat them w/ it, emagine w/o it. Think about that spec.

Ok here is your play by play of how 95% of 1 vs 1 warrior fights will go:

1. Drop a trap (freeze trap)
2. He intercepts/charges you
3. He is frozen
4. RUN to max distance (do not walk backwards)
5. Hunters mark, Rapid killing, and trinket,Aimed shot, Concussion shot, sick
pet, DPS like a mad man
6. Drop a trap (freeze trap)
7. Kite him if you must
8. Rinse and repeat

Now you have a few warriors that are pretty good and you must kite them and stay at max range. But Freeze trap is the best thing for warriors. Do not be affraid to use your other skills too. Scatter shot is great for in your face times. And if he does happen to get into range with you do NOT be afraid to wing clip and get a raptor strike off. Always try to be at distance, but do not fall apart and make mistakes if you are in melee range. Use your skills to get away, but I can crit raptor strike for over 1k most of the time. So just practice and NEVER use che etah unless he is frozen.

Was this even English?

For God's sake, stay in school, kid.

MM is the BG spec. If anyone tells you different, they don't know what they're talking about.

You really don't think SV is good for PvP then? (Not ONLY arena... in general.) Ah well.

First off your range on a hunter is 35 minimum. A warrior's charge is 25 max. He can't charge while in combat so throw him a sting (NOT a DOT) or any other shot 'cept conc. shot. Then he's in combat. He can't use charge (hence not getting any starting rage) and if he's low on rage he'll have to pop bloodrage to intercept and get to you.
When he right before he intercepts throw him a conc. shot. If you're lucky his intercept will bug and he'll end up miles away from you. If not he's still gonna take long enough for you to put a freezing trap right before he's in melee range. Run away and Aimed Shot him and finish him off.
Scatter Shot if he comes close again (He shouldn't, unless you're within his charge range and the traps breaks early).

I believe that MM has a great role in the bg's, but I don't think it is the win all spec for everyone. If you play in the arena bgs, survival is great, double traps, double sleep stings, double rapid kills, etc. Also BM is wonderful for pvp. Not saying its better or worse. I was MM at 60 and switched to BM for leveling. At 65 I just went back to MM. I zoned into Hellfire penn and got rocked by alot of classes I was owning with BM. It really depends on what playstyle you use. In AV, I don't think I would go anything but MM.

Regardless what spec you choose, warriors should be no problem for you unless you just totally mess up. Even if you start the fight with 50% hp you should be ok.
#13 Mar 06 2007 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
1.Right off the bat hit him with an arcane
2. Like everyone else he'll get close you freeze run off
3. I put up Hawk, Mark, Rapid, I start Aimed shot, send pet, Arcane, Serpent, Concuss
4. He will charge, I get off a Raptor Strike, Wing Clip, Scatter, run off
5. Arcane > Multi > Serpent > Concuss
6. Then if he's still alive, hit him with raptor,(i'm tauren, so stomp) set an explosive trap, I always win that way. Plus I have a Gorilla as a pet and I save his Thunderstomp for the final health of the warrior. Also I have the insignia of the horde, so I get off his first hamstring, which helps more then anything.

haha maybe im prepared bt i managed to down at least a lvl 63 orc warrior today with some of the help here. Gee thanks. btw if i send my pet to hit the warrior, will the warrior be in battle? cuz i noticed if my pet hit the warrior, the warrior can still charge after me.

Watch the rage bar. If he has rage, he is using intercept. Unlike charge, intercept can be used in combat. But the two skills look at the same to an observer.

Just a note of warning: Any Warrior worth his class will use Hamstring the second you're within reach. Or Piercing Howl if he has it. It'll prevent you from kiting him effectively since you'll be moving just as "fast" (slow?) as him. Improved Hamstring also has a chance to root you, just like Improved Wing Clip.

Also, do not use Freezing Trap indescriminately. A talent in the Arms tree, called Second Wind, will cause the Warrior to regenerate 10% health and gain additional rage every time he is stunned or immobilized. Which makes him very hard to trap kite. Even as a Beast Mastery Hunter I'm having trouble fighting them due to Intimidation being a stun, thus healing him for 10% every time I use it.

Thankfully, The Beast Within makes me immune to stuns/snares/immobilizing effects (Intimidating Shout) so I can keep running after delivering a Wing Clip in close combat without risking a Hamstring or Piercing Howl back in return.

True, due to SW they're not easy to kill whilst kited (still very easy to kite though). But as a hunter you have to CC them to get away. There's now way you're gonna beat them in melee.

SW is just to suck up I'm afraid. It's the only defence warriors have against kiting. And well earned since they are SO easily kited.

Also, a hunter worth his class will CC the warrior BEFORE melee range. And even if that's not enough WC is 20% better than hamstring at highest rank.

I have a solution to Hamstring.

Insignia of the Alliance/Horde.

I usually start laughing as I pop on AotC while I've got Hamstraing up, start moving away and pop my trinket.

That is, of course, after I Wing Clip him.

I personally find Warriors pathetically easy. Yeah they've got plate, but they a) can't heal b) have next to no ranged attacks, if any.

OP, I noticed you said:

Quote:
i will aspect cheetah run back and do another aimed shot

By "run back" do you mean that you back away - go backwards (i.e. hit the S key)? If you are, this is part of your problem.

If at all possible STRAFE away, never back away. Q and E are the strafe keys. You strafe away at 100% speed, backing is about half speed. AE and QD combos, mash them down together, let you circle.

You can shoot anything w/in a 180 degree forward facing arc of you. So as long as the target is a tiny bit in front of you, strafing right or left allows you to keep shooting at it (like arcane, which is doable on the move).

You may know this already. But if you didn't, there it is. GL!

I usualy do this against a warrior
multishot> concusive shot > arcane shot > scorpid sting if u have time and when they at u use scatter shot then freeze trap then run away getting range and use aimed shot > multishot > arcane shot and then melee em or wut ever usualy they die by then although maybe im just realy realy strong /shrug.

I dont know why this is but I have a hunter and a friend of mine has a warrior, we were at the same level and dueled quite often.

I could beat him even without a pet, which really made him mad...

Either way, Generally, I never used traps. I used wing clip and ran, applied a sting, concussion shot, started the aimed shot, and sometimes had time to get off an arcane shot. rinse/repeat. Maybe he wasnt all that smart at using a warrior, but it worked continuously. You just have to watch for the hamstring, and if he does that, get off that scatter shot.

Another thing you have to be cautious about when facing a Warrior above level 30, is this little ability:

Intercept
Rank 1
Charge an enemy, causing 25 damage and stunning it for 3 seconds.
Effect 1:	Charge
Effect 2:	Trigger Spell: Intercept Stun
Level: 30
Classes:	Warrior
Rage: 10
Range: 8 - 25 yards
Cast Time:	0.00
Cooldown:	30.0 seconds

It works when in combat, so stay more than 25 yards away. If you get close and see a burning face above the Warrior suddenly, run faster. It means he switcehd to Berserker stance which is needed to Intercept.

Ok, I am survival spec but your trap will save you, i usually do the joust method and raptor strike through them and then wingclip.

1st i would* aimed shot him only if he hasnt targeted you, then when he goes to charge he should go into a freeze trap, then you run through him and wing clip, being mm you should hav concussive shot full spec'd and be able to kite him, just concussion shot him and let your pet tick him away, then frost trap and shoot him as he crosses it then jump over him and wing clip him and run to the other side of the trap so he must waddle towards you.

Just keep unloading sting and arcan shot and concussive shot and kite.

with mm i see that arcane shot cooldown is reduced, that could help

This is my strat that works for me alot:

1. trap him (if possible)
2. if it works, mark/rapid fire/ trinket/ aimedshot.
3. then dmg him alot, then i run at him once hes close enuf and raptor/wing clip. (cause they dont expect u doingthe charging , most of the time.
4.around the time u wing clip, ur cooldown for traps should be up, throw down an immolation trap.
5 normally u will get him down at least near halfway, the trap will take away like 900+ hp in 15 secs and by the time the dot is gone, hes should* be dead or close to it.

*thats if the second wind goes into effect and if he pots.

also plz tell em if im forgeting anything that would help this strat of if it should be abandoned.

Ages ago, when I was still learning and when I reached the point where I couldn't click out of hamstr (or crip poi), I thought "oh well, melee time."

And I died. A lot. I only beat very poorly geared wars and rogues, or very hurt ones, meleeing.

I have since found that doing everything possible to get back to range and resume shooting is the thing to do, that even if I can escape to kiting range with only a sliver of life, I can still win.

Recent changes in trap make this much easier. It used to be you had to drop a freezing trap before the fight and hope you could lure the war to it.

That Arms regen ability is a complication, however... where they regen health if stunned/stuck in ice trap. However, getting sliced to bits by being stuck in his melee range is worse!

Unless you're mass PvPing or your target is crowd-controlled you will NOT get an Aimed Shot off. Don't bother with it (Especially with the new Entrapment nerf, it's even more useless than it already is.)

In either case, the best way to a Warriors heart is being Survival, this is at least how I deal with them:

1. Serpent Sting, and while possible as many other instant shots I can fire.
2. I drop a Snake Trap and I put Aspect of the Monkey on.

Meleeing ensues here. Raptor Strike whenever. Mongoose Bite whenever. Wingclip when you're not doing the previous. Counterstrike whenever. If you get an immobilize proc off: Go back to step 1. Pop Deterrence if you feel like it.

Alternatively if you start on a good range you might get an Aimed off, drop a nice freezing trap and rinse and repeat:

1. Aimed, Multi, Auto, Arcane
2. Warrior gets trapped, move back
3. Aimed, Arcane, Wyvern
4. Warrior gets 'trapped', move back (Beware poison/sleep removers - Wyvern Sting is a very weak skill.)
5. Drop a new trap. Aimed, wait until the DoT appears, Scorpid.
6. Back to step 1!

It's very situational really, but these would be 'default' templates from which I deviate usually. In PvP this rarely happens, in Alterac Valley I'm not interested in killing players unless they're in the way, in WSG I generally only slow people, in AB I only tickle players touching my flag. In the arena my warlock will generally fear things or kill them anyway.

Or in the case that the warrior finally got his epic imba weapon, he'll three hit your 10k hp :)
