Pet Skill Use PriorityFollow

I've just recently picked up Hunter and I'm wondering exactly how a pet determines the priority of skills that are on autocast. What I mean by this is if you have two or more skills which are off cooldown and on autocast, with enough focus to use only one, which skill will the pet use?

As an example, my Ravager which I just picked up has Bite (10s cd), Growl (5s cd), and Gore (no cd). So assuming it starts from 0 focus, nothing is on cooldown, and it just ticked enough focus to use any of the skills, which will it use? And subsequently, if one of the CD skills are on cooldown, which will it use?

I am not entirely sure.
I think it either uses whatever spell you have 1st on the petbar first or it always uses growl first.

You could try digging through Petopia to see if they have an answer, or else ask on TKAsomething.
As there are a lot more people there who have tested just about everything considering hunters :)

At the moment the Pet Skills are a real Mess , it used to be Growl had Priority over all other skills but now it seems very random which will start off with the pets attack.

They decided the boars had a bug in their attack and were gaining far to much aggro , since then they have been trying to fix things but still all the pets have the bug of random casting , it used to be Growl was always first it has a 5 second cool-down then Bite with a 10 second cool-down and then claw which has no cool-down so the priority was the cool down skills and any instant cool down skill used any remaining focus, The growl and the cool down Skills always seemed to over ride any instant casts and would trigger as soon as enough focus was generated .

These days i have seen on my cat that sometimes i wait up to 10 seconds for that first Growl to happen but usually there is a Claw and a Bite before the Growl or at least one attack before the growl , I hope they fix it soon as it seems my level 70 hunter suffers the effects worse than my level 25 to 45 Hunters.

Also its a bit of a weird bug they have with the Priorities as some hunters seem to have little or no problem and others complain of getting to know how to melee far to often when the target ignores the Pet.

I am no expert but have been trying to keep up with the news on this latest fault and as far as i can tell nobody is exactly sure what is going on as i am guessing over time it still gives roughly the same amount of pet damage but is annoying when i have to watch my damage meter more these days.

From what I've experienced, growl seems to take priority over the focus dumps (gor etc) but not over other long cooldowns like bite.

Sandra, how are your petskills ordered on your petbar?

Is growl in the first slot?

While I'm on this, how does something like Dash fit in here? Will it only be used while there's a gap between the pet and the mob?

i was wondering as well. My level 28 cat has both growl,bite and claw. Do I keep bite and claw both up and let cat decide or one or the other? Read somewhere that claw was better because it doesnt have a CD.

Until you have a focus regenerating talent (Bestial Discipline or Go for the Throat) I personally wouldnt use a focus dump (gore/claw/screech) because it will, too often, leave the focusbar empty and thus delay growls.

As for your question, Bite does more damage per focus.
So technically, Bite is better if it wasnt for the cooldown.
There is still no reason to not have both switched on though, that is assuming you have 1 or both of the aforementioned talents.
If you dont, just Growl and Bite will be a very nice combination. :)

hmm and after reading on petopia
"Claw and Bite were the original two damage-dealing pet abilities, but recently Claw has drawn well ahead of Bite in popularity. Because Claw lacks a cooldown timer, it can be used whenever the pet has enough focus -- that is, it is a "focus dump" skill."
I thought claw was better and did more dmg and added agrro because the pet can do it more often.Has anyone done a parse on this?

Claw does more DPS because it has a zero cooldown, but Bite is better DPF (Damage per Focus)

In my experimentation with the skill position on the pet bar, it makes no difference whatsoever. It's very noticable when the boar does a charge on a trapped mob, it annoyed me so I thoughht moving Charge to the far right of the pet bar might lower it's priority. Wrong. no difference in behavior at all.
It seems to just be calculated internally by the client.

But it does at least have some situational checking for abilities. I have never seen Dash go off unless there was a distance between pet and mob.

I was told by a hunter not to use bite because claw was much better. Right now on my bar I have Growl(5),Claw(4),Dash(1). I have bite(4). Just don't have it learned on my pet. Cause I've got Great stam(6) and armour(6) and I don't have many TP left lol.

I'm not so sure if this was just a minor bump in the game or not, but there have been times my pet used dash to walk behind the target after having hit the target for about 3 times.
