RAWR told me to go ArP.

This will involve gem badge farming.

Edit: It lied as I forgot to add my other ArP trink.

But still ArP gemming is close.

Only now?

According to EJ, you go ArPen at around 400 passive rating and don't go agility until you hit 1200 or 1400 passive, right?

Rawr tells me to go ArPen, but Toskk tells me to go Agi or even Strength.

Wait, what? That makes no sense. Agi gives the same amount of AP, but also crit. Am I missing something here?

Yeah, Strength gives 2 AP while Agi gives 1.

Some kitties supposedly reach such high crit% that more crit from agility is no longer as useful as the extra AP from strength.

Must be a real downer to be so geared that usual rules don't apply.

Horse, what gear levels are you at?

I'm only curious because I'm around 5k GS with mostly T9 stuff and some ilvl 245 items plus the 264 belt. I checked ElitistJerks and this is from their Cat DPS thread:

Quote:
Let's say you don't have one of the two trinkets and x is the ArP on your gear (and with Hearty Rhino, the +40 ArP food buff):

x < 400 -> Agility is the best stat, gem for it
400 < x < 1400 -> ArPen is the best stat, gem for it
1400 < x -> Agility is the best stat, gem for it

So I'm assuming that 400 ArPen without gems is when you start gemming for ArPen. You start gemming for Agility when you reach 1400 ArPen.

If you have the NES trinket, you should start to gem for Agility at 722 ArPen. I'm currently at 600-something ArPen with gems, but not food buff. Still don't have any of the ArPen trinkets, though. I was under the impression that Horse had much better gear than me and as such, should already be past the point where he should start to gem for ArPen.

Exactly. I've pulled 80% crit rate (75% paper-doll listed) on some bosses, and that's 10-man. I'm glad when I took the strength mace off Valithria (first of the 251 weapons in ICC to drop for me, not significantly better) there wasn't anybody else who could use the thing.

The main reason I gem agi over AP is because I'm dual-specced bear/cat, and use both regularly. A lot of my gear (4T10, crafted boots, rep ring (dps, but better than the tank ring I had before), weapon) pulls double duty for both dps and tanking. Because of that I gem in ways that are useful to both specs, and do things liike being much more likely to stick a Shifting gem in a blue socket, even if the socket bonus isn't spectacular.

76% with procs is the time to switch off of agility, if you are hit and expertise capped. You cannot get rid of the glancing blows on white hits which are 24%, and white hits make up about 40% of your damage. Any crit over over 76% will apply only to yellow hits, and while nice it reduces the value of crit to where other stats are more important. I was starting to gem strength because of this until i made the switch to armor pen gemming. Currently unbuffed I am at 61.73 crit and 1226 armor pen, until Saurfang decides to drop more DBWs.

My cat set has mostly 245 gear with some 251 and a stray 226 piece. I have both GT and NES.

My crit is low enough so I am not butting up on crit caps, except maybe FB, and a I am a bit over 400 passive ArP. I figure one more 251 piece with ArP or when I get 2T10 for cat spec I'll start going ArP.

Getting the 2T10 may be pushed back as I might start getting more 264 LW recipes and getting gear is a crap shoot as I usually tank ICC so getting DPS stuff depends on the group and what drops.

You're not actually using both ArPen trinkets at the same time, are you? Because they share internal cooldowns and the NES trinket is apparently superior to even Grim Batol, at least if you're beyond hit cap.

If you're at 400 passive ArPen rating, without counting in gems, and you've got the NES, I'd start gemming for ArPen now. I've got 12 ArPen gems socketed or something like that, giving me a total of 240 additional ArPen, putting me at those 600-something passive. Which is why I need that damn trinket!

But noooo, it won't drop for me when I'm on my Druid! It'll probably be like the off-hand from Halls of Reflection which my Druid spent months farming for!

Wish Blizzard would throw us a freakin' bone.

Maz, they do not share cool downs.

If both proc I am only 200 or so over and using both is currently better than suing the iLvl200 emblem one.

Site went booboo when I tried posting, so this might be a double-post.

They don't?

*checks EJ*

Oh, right, I misread the post.

Quote:
Wearing two of these trinkets is quite useless since they have a significant shared uptime and then there would be ArP wasted (assuming you've got some ArP on your gear). The goal is, to reach the ArP soft-cap. Soft Cap means: you have exactly 100% Armor Ignore when your trinket proccs.

Cool, it adds a source when you copy-paste stuff from there.
