Damn you, Astarin.

Not only am I horribly afraid of spiders, I'm also the most curious person you'll ever know. The more warnings you put on something, the more I want to see what it is. I've seen that video already, though. For some reason, it was a "related video" on a certain Matt Mulholland recorder song that was also posted in the OOT.

Happy holidays and all that, by the way. Left for Sweden on the 23rd and came home earlier today (29th). Almost a week without internet. I felt so cold. So cold.

So, what are you guys doing for New Year's Eve? Personally, I'm not going to do much. The last couple of years I've been going to parties and dinners, but this year I'm going to stay home for a change. I'll probably cook a nice steak, open a bottle of wine, light a cigar and watch TV all night.

I'm getting too old for the "let's get hammered before midnight, wooh!" sh*t. Not the part about getting hammered before midnight, but the 'wooh!' part. I prefer to get hammered in relaxed and familiar surroundings, not in some club somewhere, surrounded by a million teenagers.

Yeah, I know, I sound like an old fart. Get off my lawn!

I have no earthly idea what I'm doing for New Years yet. I'll have to ask some friends and see what they're doing.

Before:

long sight distance with all the minimum graphics settings, 10ish FPS, 12" monitor, broken speakers

Screenshot

After:

long sight distance, all maximum graphics settings, 55-60 FPS, 23" LCD monitor, and actual sound...

Screenshot

I don't know if the screenshots do it justice or not, but wow. Healing rain looks awesome. Stuff sparkles and glows like never before. I can see quest objectives sparkling! It's so cool. I'm not hunched over squinting to see the screen!

TLDR = I've apparently been under a rock for the last 8 years. Smiley: rolleyes

If I had money and wouldn't feel bad about spending it on another game when I have Arkham City, Saints Row, Skyrim and Battlefield 3 that I need to play, I'd totally buy TOR.

By the way, are the servers divided into continental clusters like WoW and Rift, or is it all one big pile of win like Star Wars: Galaxies?

One of the few things ToR did right was not region lock their game. Playing with my friends on WoW is a pain in the ***, every time I want to pay for a sub, I have to go through their credit card fraud check. It's god damned annoying.

Each server is affiliated with a different time zone (and I think the EU ones have different languages as the primary, just to facilitate larger populations of those speakers). But you can make a character anywhere you want. So most of the people on my server are on the Eastern coast of the US, but not everyone is.

Cool.

I wonder what the latency is like. I could play on the NA servers in Rift as well, but 1300ms latency on a good day is hilarious.

Hmmm, let's see. 29ms on my EST server.

On <insert random low-pop English EU server>, it's moving between 129 and 299. Not awesome, but not bad either. With the ability to set your ability queue time with a lot of freedom, shouldn't be an issue in anything but hardcore pvp.

One of these days I'll have to give it a try for sure, gotta save a little cash though. Smiley: wink

On another note, PvP is so loleasy now. I can switch targets quickly. I can actually click on people to target them too! I can see someone coming from the side and frost shock them, strafe around a pillar and keep someone in sight, kiting just got a heck of a lot easier. It's so darn simple to keep see danger without the blinders on. Lag isn't nearly as bad. PLUS WOW MY COMPUTER ACTUALLY DOES WHAT I TELL IT TO DO WHEN I TELL IT TO DO IT!

This is freaking ridiculous. I never realized how much my old box was holding me back I guess. Smiley: rolleyes

Don't worry, few people realize that 2-3 FPS on minimum settings means you need to upgrade your computer. Smiley: lol

I'm happy for you. I love it whenever I upgrade my computer, but yours bears resemblance to a 19th century person being transported to the 21st century and experiencing a microwave oven.

Heh, grats Protein. I remember what a joyous occasion it was when I upgraded my computer last year. It really can be awe inspiring, how big of a difference it makes. It is literally painful for me to play WoW on my laptop anymore, which I rarely do, but when I do it sucks so bad.

I haven't actually tried WoW since I bought a new laptop. It doesn't have a GPU, but the Sandy Bridge integrated are amazingly powerful (I'm able to play Mass Effect at high settings).

So I decided to go ahead and buy SWTOR after all. Who needs food, right?

Now I just need to download 20GB of data and I'll be all set for tomorrow!

Smiley: thumbsup

It's a big download because there is almost no quest text. A FEW quests you get from consoles (notably your dailies, and a few of the heroic quests). But nearly everything is voice acted. Very nice.

The game itself plays a lot like if you fused a BioWare single player game with a more traditional MMO.

You definitely get a legitimate single-player experience. But I've still enjoyed all the group content I've done. And Huttball is the most fun I've had in PVP in a loooooong time.

[EDIT]

Might as well turn this double-post into something useful. Pigtails, I will be making a character on JJT at some point. I'm just working on establishing my Republic toons though, since they are what I intend to main (you dirty Sith scum).

Unfortunately, I'm OCD. And the crafting is close enough to EVE that my organizational habits are kicking in. XD

For optimal jedi weapons, I have my artifice crafter researching the best hilts for each level range, if possible. That means both the Consular and the Knight ones. In response, I have a Consular who will take Synthweaving, so that both always have access to quality armor.

Same thing for the gun-users side. Will probably give a Smuggler Armstech for gun barrels, then a Trooper Armormech.

Then I'll PROBABLY give a Smuggler Cybertech for the ship upgrades. All that is left is Biochem, which my Shadow will likely cover.

I'm organized! Smiley: schooled

[EDIT2]
P.S. I'm trying to decide what to do with my multiple-archetype scenario. As of right now, I have a human knight, a human trooper and a Miralukan Consular. In theory, I want a Twi'lek at some point. I don't like the green skin of the mirialans (though I haven't looked into what shades there are, so I might still make one).

I just can't decide if I want my classes that share races to be visually distinct or not. Meaning, should my second Consular be Miralukan? I'm leaning towards yes. Well then, shouldn't he look the same? I kinda like the look of mine, so I'm still leaning towards yes. But that just seems kinda odd to me.

I thought about switching it up--having one knight and one miralukan for both Jedi/Consular, but I realized that this would really irk me, since their voices are the same per class, not per race.
