Srsly, lern2post.

Busy with work stuff. Someone wrote out paragraphs and paragraphs of a procedure for me to upload, but it's in excel so the formatting is all wonky. Smiley: mad

Yeah, paying for your education... must suck, huh?

Yes, yes it does. >.< By the time I get my Masters in Education, I'll be at least $60k in debt, purely due to student loans.

Ouch.

I get paid ~$950 a month (for up to 7 years) while studying. Living in a dorm, it's enough to sustain me, though, I do work once a week to get some extra cash. It likely wouldn't be enough to support me if I was living in an apartment, had a busy social life and/or a family, though.

Still, getting paid to educate oneself is rather nice.

I love talking to people from other cultures. Right now, I really, really want out.

Also listening to some Punjabi reggae.

Edit: I'll be getting approx. £650 a month for my first year of uni, and £500 or so in subsequent years. I also have savings that I'll be granted access to as soon as I start university. I do have to pay back some of it, but it's not much and I get student finance up to my PhD.

I want a good coffee machine so bad. Why must they all be horribly expensive?

Another good use for 1k though

My french press more than suits my current needs. Of course, it doesn't brew espresso. But for normal coffee, it's sufficient. Of course, a more pressurized system wouldn't be awful.

@Maz, I'm so jealous. I would love to get paid to learn.

@Kali, you want out of the UK while I want in, lol.

And introducing a new topic:

I LOATHE when Americans say "eXpresso." I worked at a Dunkin Donuts (*shudder*) and everyone would call it that--drove me insane.

Really, it's not that hard.

And I am quite happy staying in the UK for two more years (apart from the summers); I just don't want to stay in one country for too long. It makes me uneasy.

Yeah, I still have to watch it when I type out espresso. My fingers always go to the X key first and I have to backspace and correct it, even though I pronounce it correctly.

Also, espresso drinks here are more milk than anything else. In a 16 ounce mocha, there's roughly 4 ounces of espresso, two pumps of chocolate, an ounce of syrup if you add that, and the rest is milk. I know this because I worked as a barista on and off for about 3 years while I was working with the food services on campus. =x

I'm currently about $30k or so in debt from loans and I've got about 5 years of school that I've received financial aid for. The first year I only had a loan for about 2500 because I was 19 and my parents financial information still counted against me. With the 4 year hiatus I took though, when I came back I got about 3/4 of my education paid for with grants. That helped out a lot. I don't know what grad school for a year and three months is going to look like though. =/ Teacher certification programs are weird, because they're shorter and I'm pretty sure there are no grad student teaching positions available to help you pay for your schooling.

But yeah, the US education system sucks balls.

Some of the smaller subreddits are really cool and useful. There's a fetish one and a sex one, too. :3
#6164 May 18 2011 at 6:27 PM Rating: Good
Oooh, got any links to those? =x I've never really looked at reddit, I have no idea what it is.
#6165 May 18 2011 at 6:31 PM Rating: Good
Those are NSFW.

Basically you replace the part after /r/ with whatever you want to talk about and unless it's a super obscure topic or one covered by one of the larger ones, you'll find a community.

Reddit itself is basically a site based on posting stuff (mostly links) and whatever gets the best rating per amount of time makes the front page. You can even customise your front page with the subreddits that are relevant to you!
There's a few cool sections that are more discussion-based, TIL (TodayILearned), IAmA/AMA (I am a... ask me anything), DOE (does anyone else) and AskReddit, mainly.

The problem is that you are likely to end up killing a lot of time on there once you get hooked.

Some people really don't like the community, but I <3 them, for the most part.

When I was in college I had a course called Senior Design where we had to create, produce, and market a food product. My idea for my group was "Expresso", which was a freeze dried instant espresso powder. I got voted down and we went with a green tea (matcha) bran muffin.

The problem is that a lot of people probably wouldn't get it.

Lol, /sigh at the fact that most people wouldn't get the "Expresso" thing.

It's seriously one of my huge pet peeves.

I've fallen in love with a new genre of music. One I hadn't thought I'd fall for.

Normally, I'm not much of a electronic music fan, but dubstep is pretty cool - if done properly. It's like semi-slow techno/dance, but with an emphasis on the bass.

Of course, like with all music, there's good and less good dubstep. And then there's epic dubstep (or metalstep).

If you're wearing a headset, prepare for some mind-shattering vibrations.

I once worked with three sisters, all of whom would say "exspecially". It was really difficult to not laugh.

It's funny how some words are pronounced in the wrong way. We've got a lot of it here as well. Some pronounce håndklæde (towel) as hångklæde. Hindbær (strawberry) turns into himbær. Billed (picture) turns into biddel.

Drives me up the walls.

I cannot even begin to read those, but I lol'd (really) at the picture one. :P

I have a German friend who studied abroad here back in high school. His favorite food is Knödel.

When I first tried to imitate him, I said "Kanoodel."

... and the next 15 times.

I ALMOST got it once, but I eventually just gave up. My mouth just can't transition from the k directly to the n. >.<
