my hunter has had more than one pet but the one dependable one that has stuck with me through thick and thin is 'Waffles" a simple lioness from the barrens, Sure I've had birds, even a boar or two but waffles has always been there, and sadly enough has usually been tankish as a BM hunters pet I laughed when a warrior commented that my pet had more armor than he did (silly fury wars)

I understand the need some have for aesthetics, but i would personally choose whatever gives me the biggest advatage in the game. It wouldn't matter if it was Mr. Hanky or the most beahtiful pet model in the game. The same goes for gear. It's always baffled me that people would sacrifice stats and/or effects to have a certain "look", but I suppose those people can't understand why people like me don't care :)

While I do wear horribly miss matched armor, its impossible to play the game without doing so, I have often sold/disenchanted upgrades in order to keep a good looking set of armor I managed to put together against all odds.

My level 60 paladin is a good example. I’ve have a gorgeous set of green plate on him that he started putting on in his early 50s. People have sent me tells to say how good it looks and how far too few players bother to put together full sets. At level 60 I could upgrade every single piece of his armor with little trouble but I never found it worth doing. I enjoyed playing him much more as my green knight.

Unfortunately, the addition of Outland means that his green plate will have to be stored in his bank. The difference in armor between the old world and Outland is so drastic that he’ll have to upgrade if he has any hope of surviving. *sigh*

What we all need to remember is that different people enjoy different aspects of this game. I’d be perfectly happy if all PvP and raid instances were dropped from the game. It wouldn’t affect my fun in the least. But I realize that those same elements of the game are THE reason some other people play. It takes all kinds both in the real world and in the virtual world.

I was rather delighted at the fact that for me, as a hunter, alot of the stuff out of starting instances in the outlands matched, it was all the same red and bronze color, Bloodstained Ravager Gauntlets (wich I still have cause I havn't gotten an upgrade), Scale Leggings of the Skirmisher, Tracker's Belt, and Scorpid Sting Mantle (just recently upgraded) all matched each other, what I don't like now, is that I have all assorted colors, the only things that match is my boots and my pants, Skyhunter Swift Boots, and Scaled Greaves of Patience. My Comsortium Mantle of Phasing looks severely out of place XD

So I was wondering if others chose their pets for role-play or aesthetic reasons instead of stats or abilities.

Practicality reasons.

Had an elven starter area cat until they altered her coloring with patch 1.3. Then had Rakshiri until Furious Howl was added. Picked up a Wind Serpent much later.

All we do is raid, so for raids me use a wolf or a wind serpents.

My pet is a Ravager, not saying he's better than a boar but I like him and will keep him. He's a scary bed bug, don't let him bite you!!!!

I've had the same Moonstalker Runt since I was level 10 and I have no plans of getting rid of her. Every time I try to tame other pets, I don't like them as much. Plus, being a horde character, on a PvP server, I don't see many of them.

There is a Lvl 70 cat that looks the same as the moonstalker runts, went and tamed on, then gave it up until I get my Boar all the way to 70, then Ill ditch the scorp and get the cat again. love the black with white stripes :P

I saw a link to something like that on Petopia a while back, and was frankly a bit disappointed. I liked the idea that I had to level that cat all the way up. Either way, I still like the way she looks against the rest of the pets. I'm willing to give up the boar stats for the looks of the cat. I'm sentimental I guess ...

No I get what your saying, I had a cat for the longest time as well, Wanting to go back and tame it- Rak'Shiri, or Shy'Rotam(wich is the one I had)- but only leveling on pet at a time, don't want several pets to be low, want a couple I can count on first.

(P.S. will be looking for horde to get Shy'Rotam again, as I am alliance)

I know what you mean. I was very happy Blizzard didn’t add a 60+ pink tallstrider to the game. But even if they had Cashara would never get rid of Sweetpea.

Calabar and I seem to be the only Strider advocates on this forum. Step out of the woodwork now to proclaim your loyalty to the Tallstriders!

I thought about taming the Clutchmother on one of my other hunters, but once you’ve gone pink there’s just no going back. *snicker*

I will give up my (Arash-Ethis) white windserpent when they can pry her from my cold dead hands. I had a windserpent before the pet scaling went in, and I just love 'em.

My Humar will stay with me until the day Elliena no longer lives and breathes. I haven't had any other pets since 23 (other than skillpets), and won't get any other.

I have two pets on my hunter and not one of them I will give up for a pig.

I have a red cat from silvermoon when I was a wee hunty whom I have named sunstrider. I love him for his color and just to have a nice friend to hang out with when recruiting guildies. I also have a golden dragonhawk, and despite the whole taboo on caster pets. I am level 35 ATM and I have no problems with his stats..I actually prefer him to my cat because he can hold aggro and take more punishment than my kitty.

The only reason I'd ever tame a boar is to learn their skills, that's it.

got ironback a while back. Was intersting that my pet could take more of a beating than the supposed Def warrior when I got him. I really like using him to hold 2 or so mobs off the priest while the def warrior was running around like a chicken with the head chopped off.

I'm level 28 blood elf and I just went to Teldrassil to get an owl. I'm not getting a new pet for a long time. >:O

The winged spirit raiser person knows me by name now.

I am one of the ones that keeps the pet just because I think he looks good and once I get one it is like any real pet just hard to give it up. I got Humar and it took about 5 hours but I think he looks really good and plan on keeping him. May not be the best but hes mine. Oh do have a question I am lvl 36 now do I need to get other pets too learn other skills again. I did at a lower lvl and have bite and growl and claw, do I need to do it again?
Please help
Thanks

One of my four hunter mains? Geez, Cal. I knew you were an altaholic and a hunter lover, but I think you have more levels of hunter than I do, and I seem to start one on each server I go to.

My actual main character uses an Avian Warhawk, and has since I was able to tame one. I was using a snow owl prior to TBC that I had tamed just as a joke to name Orly. When BC came out, I thought I would go back to my old since-level-10 nightsaber, but I just couldn't get around the coloring of the warhawk. My first trip to Sethekk Halls, I abandoned my disposable pet I brought along and tamed one on the spot. I've tried to convince myself to use, or at least have something else in the stables, but I just can't seem to do it. Now if I could get him to eat something other than just meat...fish, even.

I'm still using Karil, and I'll never give him up for a breakfast meat.

He just hit 70 yesterday, too! 11,845 armor...

Had a cat since level 10. The level 9 nightsaber elite. It still has no problem out aggroing the main tank and creating total panic when I want it to. For the 5-mans, I've used it to MT and it works fine provided that the party knows they have to focus on the pet target rather than just shooting up whatever they feel like and expecting the pet to pick up targets as they pull em off. If you combine a heavy BM spec, misdirection, max claw, kill command, and the focus regen talents it's hard to pull aggro off it.

XD

I have one of them, first time in I was using a warp chaser and I was thinking, well I can go tame one of those again, so I ditched it and am loving my Avian Warhawk (Named Noggen (had Trachela named Fogger)) I use that hawk when the party needs DPS, level my boar on guild runs, and use my scorp when we need a decent offtank.
