You can buy Fewell from the AH, considerable cheaper then what the NPC sells/'recharges' it for.

A route a lot of people took was to trade your Apron then just spam feed Wind Fewell, this will take you to lv~42. Dont worry about it blowing up because you cant lose your Apron. Wind is used because all is does is 'Knock-Back' feeding it other elements can do annoying things (Such as Paralyze from Ice.)

When you get to Level ~35 you could probably be able to make the Smock solo, by the time you cap (42ish for most Aprons) it will be easy to make Solo. Like I said though, just spam Wind (and fail the Synergy) though, until you reach the cap for the Smock. Cheapest way to level.

That guy just fails at synergy. I've made many smock's and upgraded/slotted ebon gear for people with absolutely no synergy skill, so I'm certain it nothing to do with the person that starts the synergy process.

The person operating the furnace though must have the skill. If I made a party with someone having level 0 synergy and he tried adding fewell, he would quickly allow the process to fail because using a furnace with low skill = bad.

As far as making items solo, I find that once you're within 5 levels of the cap, you'll reach the +5% impurity ratio per fewell feed, and then making an item is really no more difficult than being 40 levels above.

Tips: Ignore Pressure, it's a useless furnace stat, and keep impurity ratio below 30%. Watch for explosions, thwacking does work. Other than that, feed, feed, feed!

I hope you didn't buy the fewell from the synergy master... those guys should be shot for overpricing the stuff they sell

As already stated, you can try to buy the fewell from AH, but (at least on my server) it is in very low offer and usually overpriced as well.

The best and cheapest way is to level alchemy to 35+ and make it yourself. Buy the oil from Nogga in Bastok, buy the slime oil from AH (or farm it yourself in Korrolloka Tunnel) and buy the colored rocks from the guild vendor in Mhaura (usually has a stock selling at 1-2K a rock). Even at low Alchemy skill, creating only NQ synths, you get 3 fewell orbs for around 2-3K. That's 150 fewell to burn. If you have high Alchemy skill (or now a friend that has, willing to craft you some orbs), you can easily HQ and obtain 12 orbs per synth, which makes the price of fewell really dirt cheap.


Personally, I find Synergy very cheap to level, compared to other crafts, and by the looks of it, it will stay cheap from the very first levels all the way up to the higher levels. The trick is to 'fail craft', i.e. deliberately failing your synergy attempts. In this way, you only lose your fewell, all base ingredients are recovered and can be used over and over again.

You can make it even more interesting by combining the fail crafting with etching. My favorite recipe is the Behemoth knife. Just buy a Behemoth knife from AH (or any other augmentable weapon), buy a Mordant and an Revertant from the Synergy master and start etching. Even if you fail the synth, you can still get skill ups, without losing the base ingredients. If you succeed you will get an etched knife and an amount of cinders (which you will need eventually if you want to use synergy anyway). Just use the etched knife with the Revertant and succeed the synth, and you obtain an original knife and more cinder. Rinse and repeat for skill up and cinders. This way you can cheaply build up a cinder supply (up to 10K I believe) and skill up at the same time, just at the cost of the fewell.

Yeah I did buy fewell from the Synergy Engineer because there was none on AH (on valefor anyway) and at the time I wasn't confident that I could HQ enough to make it cheaper then the NPC could sell it for..

Anyway I managed to craft some wind fewell with my lvl 60 alchemy sub and got the odd HQ here and there.
I've been spamming "feed fewell" for a few hours and it's getting rather dull etching my behemoth knife over and over.

My skill ups are averaging around 1 level an hour and grinding slowly to lvl 20.
Is it me or does this seem incredibly slow next to other crafts of the same lvl?


Trading cinders for mordent 75 and Revertant is so annoying since you can do a single trade each time.
I got capped cinders... why can't I just trade a my cinders for a whole stack??

I spent 10 mins standing there getting a stack of each which there's no need at all.

Hmmm I spent a couple hours on my first ty at Synergy, I'm doing the mythril nugget approach to go from 1-50 or so, and so far 5 levels up, to me isn't too bad, I have not even used up a full stack of earth fewell, I've spent about 60k(approx) on materials, and at this rate I should see lvl 20(I hope) before needing more fewell.

With my play schedule I plan on doing a lvl here or there when I get a chance, and truth be told, it is fun, I like trying to prevent the overload(not that I do it very often) oh well, looking forward to adding synergy to my 100 woodworkin ^-^.

I leveled synergy to 50 right away and I can say that SE never nerfed the skill up rate for synergy. This guy that got 0.9 per synth is full of it. I've never been that lucky and I was working with 20+ level gaps (maybe a 50 level gap is just that much more skill-up prone?).

Also, while the time difference isn't that significant, clicking "end synergy" will allow you to start the next synth sooner than if you just let the furnace explode on its own.


When learning skills, I suggest maxing the ability to lower the impurity ratio. I find that's the most important skill since it prevents explosions and saves fewell.

Whatever skills you learn though, do not choose the one to lower the pressure level, it's completely pointless. Ok, not completely... but I'd rather PREVENT an explosion than just reduce the damage.

Hmm I got a whole 15 levels yesterday purposely failing etching on my behemoth knife.
So after hitting lvl 35, I've had zero skill from using this method.
The good news is I managed to squeeze another level out of trying to complete my smock!
Why am I getting no more skill ups from etching? :(
