Hey I have recently stoped lvling GS due to lack of funds. I was hoping to get some help from veteran goldsmithers on how much it would cost to get to 50 or if its even worth going past 60. thanks for the assistance.

When I leveled my first 50 levels of GS, I turned an overall profit. I don't know if that's still possible (I might find out soon on a mule), but I can tell you it will get MUCH worse before it gets better. Expect to lose 1M gil per level (if not more) from 73 to 78, for example.

Is it worth it? Depends. Not nearly as worth it as it used to be. Goldsmithing is rather over-saturated at the top end... like all crafts, but more so (imo). I can look at the high-end synths in several other crafts and easily see more profit potential than what I expect as a goldsmith. A lot of people leveled it for a quick buck or because they mistakenly believed it was the "best" craft, now profit is slim because competition is fierce.

To be frank... if you're out of gil and had to ask, then don't bother to continue past 60.

Last 4 months turned profit getting to (Currently 62.1)
Can see profit to 70, have yet to looked much further (Getting to 70 is going to take a while.)

If you're bleeding Gil to get to 50, I wouldn't suggest taking it further.

70-80 is murder.

1 gold ingot loss every synth, desynthing is an option since you lose your gold ingot anyways, might as well try and get it back it back.

Quickly calculate that 70-80 is 100 synths of straight skillups (but more realistically 200-300 synths) So thats 20 stacks of Gold Ingots alone, minimum.

I did it, and I had to funnel a lot of gil into it, but its doable, do get another means of revenue for a while though.

By these figures, assuming 250 synths for those 10 levels and losing 1 gold ingot on every synth, Goldsmithing 70-80 will cost 4,000,000 Gil in Gold Ingots alone.

My question is, with this current cost, where is the payoff that makes the investment of time worth it? I'm currently hovering around 67, looking at getting an apron, but then probably dropping the concept of any further skillups.

Depending on your server there are many synths above 80 that may be worth it and that will yield back the average price of a gold ingot every synth. (depending on success and your server)

I WISH 70-80 went by in 250 synths for me haha. That awful stage cost me like 30mil + a while back... I did have pretty awful luck in that stage though. Sometimes I'd line up 24 synths and get like .1 or .2

Agreed. 250 synths for 70 to 80 seems pretty **** optimistic to me. I didn't start NPCing gold ingot synths (bucklers) until I had already hit 73, and I only made bucklers through 78. And just those 5 levels probably took 200 synths. I guess I could have kept track, but the truth is... I really didn't want to know. I knew I was going to lose my **** on ingots, I knew I had enough gil to cover my losses, and I knew there was no better way to go. So I made up my mind to just get it done.

I'm not going to reveal specific synths, because I don't want to do all your work for you. But there are profitable synths above level 80. And you can also reach HQ tiers that make lower level synths more worthwhile. I still have less gil than I did before dumped ~5M in the 70s, but I'm making more profit now than ever before. I'm also making a lot of nice (and sometimes expensive) gifts for friends, which is a more meaningful payoff to me than anything else.
