Hello! This is a revision of an earlier cooking guide that can be found Here. This guide has been made by my personal experiences in the world of cooking, which so far have encompassed 99.1 levels. ***NOTE*** This is NOT a power leveling guide!!! If you want a guide for power crafting, I'd recommend This one. This guide is made for going at a relaxed pace and making money. If you do not like to make money while you skill up, I'm sorry, but this guide may not be fore you. I have cataloged everything here and linked it in for easy access.

Now 1st off, there are some things that you should really have in order to maximize profit and enjoyment from cooking. In order you need to have:

1. A mule in every city. I cannot stress how much money and sanity this will save you in the long run. Buying ingredients off the AH is horrible for profit margins 90% of the time.

2. A regional vendor guide. Since most of the ingredients needed for cooking can be purchased from NPC's, it’s VERY important to know where to get what you need. ffxi.cannotlinkto is where I got my guide from and I couldn't be happier about it.

3. Be patient. Things take time to sell. If your not selling to a NPC (which sometimes you should) let you stuff sell on the AH. Don't undercut people to get rid of it faster. You only hurt yourself when you cut profit out.

4. Think before you purchase. Apple Vinegar, Bay Leaves, Tortillas, and Cinnamon are actually cheaper to buy on AH than from the regional vendors. So shop around and you might be surprised what you find.

5. Guild Support: Inside the cooking guild you will find 3 NPC's that will offer to raise your cooking level temporarily. 2 do this free of charge and 1 will charge you. The increase is 1 cooking skill level for <insert NPC name here>, 2 levels for <insert NPC name here> and 3 levels (for a fee) from <insert NPC name here>. Ideally for skill ups, you want to be 3 levels from the recipe cap in my experience. So use these guys when you need to get there.

6. Guild Points: Once you hit level 30, start turning in guild point items to the NPC outside the cooking guild in Windurst. This is the only way to get key items that let you cook more recipes (sushi and pasta) and the cooking equipment and furniture. The cooking gear and furniture add up to +3 cooking skill, so they really will help. As an aside, if you are a 57 ninja, get the Hocho if you can afford it for an additional +3 cooking skill =) I'll get a Guild item link going soon for this.

Now for the meat of the message... the Cooking ^^

Amateur Levels 1-10:

0-3 Carrot Broth x4:
Water Crystal
San d'Orian Carrot x4 28 gil
Sells to NPC: gil

Notes: Have to start somewhere ^^

3-10 Sliced Sardines x2
Wind Crystal
Bastore Sardine 125 gil

Notes: Expect to break a few of these to begin with. Sell on AH to minimize losses.

Guild Test Take before level 10!
***Salmon Sub***
Earth Crystal
Crying Mustard 25 gil
Black Bread 110 gil
Apple Vinegar 91 gil
La Theine Cabbage 22 gil

Notes: Sold by Cooking guild.

Recruit Levels 10-20:

10-14 Bug Broth x4
Water Crystal
Lugworm x2 9 gil
Shell Bug x2 83 gil

Notes: Sells to NPC to profit.

14-20 Selbina Butter x4
Ice Crystal 167 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil

Notes: If at all possible save this stuff to use later on. Throw it on a mule if you can. You will use it later I promise.

Guild Test Take before level 20!
***Pea Soup***
Fire Crystal
Blue Peas x3 25 gil
Distilled Water12 gil
Dried Marjoram 44 gil
Wild Onion 667 gil

Notes: Sold at Cooking Guild.

Initiate Levels 20-30:

20-23 Meat Jerky x2
Ice Crystal
Giant Sheep Meat 44 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Dried Marjoram 44 gil

Notes: Might be able to AH for slight profits, depending on server

23-29 Insect Paste x12
Earth Crystal
Little Worm 3 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Millioncorn 44 gil

Notes: Load up all your mules and sell them out for great profits while skiling up.

--->Alternative Method <---

23-29 Dhalmel Steak
Fire Crystal
Black Pepper 234 gil
Olive Oil 14 gil
Dhalmel Meat 220 gil

Notes: Costs more to make than insect paste, but yields higher profits.

29-30 Pineapple Juice
Water Crystal
Kazham Pineapple x2 55 gil

Notes: Mainly used to get to lvl 30 guild test. Sells at profits on AH so don't feel guilty about making all you want. Just know it caps at 30.

Guild Test Take before level 30!

***Vegetable Gruel***
Fire Crystal
Chamomile 119 gil
Frost Turnip 59 gil
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Beaugreens 90 gil
Rarab Tail 21 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Sorry, you have to make this one yourself.

Novice Levels 30-40:

30-33 Meatball x12
Earth Crystal
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Hare meat 84 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Sells well on AH in windy, as it is fishing bait.

33-38 Jack-o-Lantern
Fire Crystal
Ogre Pumpkin 88 gil
Beeswax 2417 gil

Notes: This recipe will cost a decent amount up front b/c of the beeswax being around 33k on Odin. However, these sell at a great profit on AH.

--->Alternative Method <---

33-39 Pet Food Delta Biscuit x6
Earth Crystal
Rye Flour 36 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil
Land Crab Meat 250 gil

Notes: Sell to NPC for profits. Any NPC outside the guild itself buys them.

Guild Test Take before level 40!

***Meat Mithkabob***
Fire Crystal
Cockatrice Meat 1000 gil
Kazham Peppers 55 gil
Mhaura Garlic 73 gil
Wild Onion 667 gil

Notes: Buy one off AH and turn it in. These aren't worth making anymore until you can HQ them.

Apprentice Levels 40-50:

38-42 Pie Dough x4
Water Crystal
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Selbina Butter 59 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil

Notes: Told you to keep that butter ^^ Put it to good use now and put all these pie doughs where the butter was b/c you will need these soon too.

42-46 Pickled Herring
Ice Crystal 167 gil
Nosteau Herring 167 gil
Dried Marjoram 44 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil

Notes: Thanks to JeyKama & Jehebbyo for suggesting this recipe. Apparently these sell directly to NPC for profits.

46-48 Grape Juice
Dark Crystal
San d' Orian Grapes x4 69 gil

Notes: I'm thinking that these should be an amazingly good synth. They are used in the muslum recipe later on and since you can synth them cheaper than you can buy them from a vendor, this makes a lot of sense to me. In addition, since apple pies are actually a loss these days, it seems very wise to actually just make a raw ingredient you will be using later on.. Mule them until later.

--->Alternative Method <---

46-48 Apple Pie x4
Fire Crystal
Faerie Apple 40 gil
Pie Dough 53 gil
Cinnamon 239 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil

Notes: You should almost break even on these by selling to AH. Note that you can continue making pies to 50.

Guild Test Take before level 50!

***Apple Pie***

Notes: Recipe included above.

Journeyman Levels 50-60:

48-52 Crayfish Ball x 12
Earth Crystal
Crayfish x3 84 gil
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: More fishing bait. Sells very well in windy AH.

52-56 Muslum
Ice Crystal 167 gil
Grape Juice 276 gil
Honey 250gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: As suggested by Keana, this actually looks like a great synth to me. I did stone cheese back when dark crystals were 3k a stack, but with inflation, this is probably the better method. Good Job! AH these for profit.

--->Alternative Method <---

52-56 Stone Cheese x4
Dark Crystal
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Notes: Actually, this recipe goes to 61 but there are better things to make past 56 safely. NPC back for slight loss.

56-60 Yagudo Drink
Dark Crystal
Buburimu Grapes x3 184 gil
Yagudo Cherry 40 gil

Notes: AH these things for good profit.

Guild Test Take before level 60!

***Yagudo Drink***

Notes: See Recipe above.

Craftsman Levels 60-70:

60-62 Melon Pie
Fire Crystal
Thundermelon 299 gil
Cinnamon 239 gil Bird Egg 51 gil
Pie Dough 53 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil

Notes: These should sell for profit on the AH.

63-65 Imperial Coffee
Fire Crystal
Coffee Powder
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: With the new Treasures expansion comes some nice bridge synths. Try this beauty on from 63 up as high as 68. Not sure how well these will sell on AH since NPC’s sell them for 450 gil, but its cheaper and safer than the seven level gap with Sandy tea. Keep me posted on how this synth does.

65-70 San d'Orian Tea
Fire Crystal
Windurstian Tea Leaves 18 gil
Sage 170 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: You can take these boys all the way to 70 if you would like. They do not stack and might sell a little slow, but they sell at nice profits and are EASY to make.

--->Alternative Method <---

64-66 Colored Egg
Fire Crystal
San d'Orian Carrot 29 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil
La Theine Cabbage 22 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: These items commonly come up as GP items, so its best to AH them for a tidy profit or turn them in yourself.

66-70 Squid Sushi x6 ***Requires Raw fish Handling***
Earth Crystal
Tarutaru Rice 416 gil
Rice Vinegar 150gil
Gigant Squid 4000 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Ground Wasabi 1945 gil

Notes: Expect to spend a lot up front but make a sizable profit on resell to AH.

Guild Test Take before level 70!

***Raisin Bread***
Fire Crystal
San d'Orian Grape 69 gil
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Selbina butter 59 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil Rock Salt 14 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Just cook it up. Nothing too expensive or hard to find here.

Artisan Levels 70-80:

70-72 Pear au Lait
Water Crystal
Derfland Pear x2 128 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Honey 250 gil

Notes: Feel free to AH these, just be warned that that sell slowly and skill ups slow WAY down at 71.

72-77 Navarin
Fire Crystal
Olive Oil 14 gil
Black Pepper 234 gil
Popoto 43 gil
Mithran Tomato 36 gil
Wild Onion 667 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Giant Sheep Meat 44 gil

Notes: AH this for profits. Ninjas like the stuff. Not to mention its a guild point item ^_^

--->Alternative Method <---

72-77 Tuna Sushi x 4 ***Requires Raw Fish Handling***
Earth Crystal
Tarutaru Rice 417 gil
Rice Vinegar 150 gil
Gugru Tuna 1000 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Ground Wasabi 1945 gil

Notes: Raw fish handling comes back to try to make you some money. Best food in the game (well besides ambrosia) for BST and BRD. Sells ok on AH. Honestly on Odin atm Navarin is the better deal but your milage may vary.

--->Alternative Method <---

75-80Orange Kutchen
Fire Crystal
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Selbina butter 59 gil
Saruta Orange x2 59 gil

Notes: Nice cheap alternative to the fairly expensive other crafting options at this level. See how it does for you if Navarin / Sushi / Shallops don’t interest you.

77-80 Shallops Tropicale
Fire Crystal
Kazham Pineapple 55 gil
Shall Shell x2 2000 gil
Selbina butter 59 gil
Bay Leaves 117 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: AH these for good profit.

Guild Test Take before level 80!

*** Whitefish Stew***
Fire Crystal
San d'Orian Carrot 29 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Bastore Bream 1167 gil
Black Pepper 234 gil
Popoto 43 gil
Wild Onion 667 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Make your life easy...buy from the timbre timbers restaurant for around 6k and save yourself the time to make it.

Adept Levels 80-90:

80-82 Sole Sushi x2 ***Requires Raw Fish Handling***
Earth Crystal
Tarutaru Rice 447 gil
Rice Vinegar 150 gil
Black Sole 3250 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Ground Wasabi 1945 gil

Notes: Best acc food for melee 30+. 5 STR 6 DEX good profit.

--->Alternative Method <---

80-82 Pumpkin Pie x4
Fire Crystal
Ogre Pumpkin 88 gil
Cinnamon 239 gil
Selbina butter 59 gil
Pie Dough 53 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil

Notes: Without Raw fish Handling, these do pretty ok too. ^_^ Good cheap mage food. Note this recipe caps out at 85.

82-86 Marron Glace
Dark Crystal
Grape Juice 276 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Chestnut x2 110 gil

Notes: Super easy recipe. Gives mages tons of MP. Sells for nice profits.

86-90 Rolanberry Pie x 4
Fire Crystal
San d'Orian Flour 55 gil
Gelatin 333 gil
Selbina Milk 55 gil
Pie Dough 53 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil
Rolanberry 120 gil
Bird Egg 51 gil

Notes: AH these. Best food in the game for low level mages (and some higher lvl ones for that matter). 50 more mp at lvl 1 is nothing to laugh at. Good profits

Guild Test Take before level 90!

***Seafood Stew***
Fire Crystal
Gysahl Greens 61 gil
Gold Lobster 1000 gil
Shall Shell 2000 gil
Nebimonite 834 gil
Black Pepper 234 gil
Popoto 43 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Finally. Last guild test. Make it and savor in her not taking more food from you ever /cheer

Veteran Levels 90-100:

90-92 Tavnazian Salad
Wind Crystal
Apple Vinegar 91 gil
Grimmonite 8800 gil
San d'Orian Carrot 29 gil
Frost Turnip 29 gil
Noble Lady 2000 gil
Bastore Bream 1167 gil
Flint Caviar 833 gil
Beaugreens 90 gil

Notes: Either keep for synthing tacos if you want or sell to AH for nice profits. Be warned that some ingredients may be hard to find on your server (I know they are on mine)

92-95 Rice Dumpling x3 ***Requires 15 Woodworking***
Fire Crystal
Maple Sugar 36 gil Bamboo Stick 96 gil
Rock Salt 14 gil
Sticky Rice 316 gil
Dhalmel Meat 220 gil
Coral Fungus 679 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Woodworking. You heard me. Its stupid. But these sell well and all ingredients are easy to get.

95-97 Sea Bass Croute
Earth Crystal
King Truffle
Grape Juice
Zafmlug Bass
Sage
Lizard Egg
Pie Dough
Mhaura Garlic
Rock Salt

Notes: Since they messed up Tavnazian Tacos, this is the only real option to 97. I know its not fair.

97-99 Sweet Rice Cakes x9
Fire Crystal
Distilled Water 12 gil
Fresh Mugwort 7500 gil
Gardenia Seed 369 gil
Sticky Rice 316 gil
Cinnamon 239 gil
Maple Sugar 36 gil

Notes: Gardenia seed comes from a NPC in Norg (and they don't stack!!!) and the Mugwort is only obtainable by harvesting in windy. This synth will cost you a good deal of money to skill up on. But at this point you should know how to make money I would hope.

99-100 Cursed Soup
Water Crystal
Kitron 500 gil
Persikos 3000 gil
Royal Jelly No price
Distilled Water 12 gil
Honey

Notes: Ok, this requires Royal Jelly. 2 ways to acquire this stuff. Either A. Kill bees in Crawlers nest and pray for the rare drop or B. Do the rolanberry quest in crawlers nest, spawn Awd Goggie , kill said NM (lvl 68 ) and get guaranteed Jelly drop. Your call. Don't expect to make money off it either way. Sells very rarely.

--->Alternative Method <---

99-100 Red Curry
Fire Crystal
Dragon Meat 60000 gil
Curry Powder 529 gil
Coriander 1061 gil
San d'Orian Carrot 29 gil
Mithran Tomato 36 gil
Kazham Pepper 55 gil
Distilled Water 12 gil

Notes: Sells well on AH if you can find Dragon meat (only comes from HNM dragons). Might find 2 a day if your lucky. Meat is 50k on Odin. Try not to break it ^^

Now, no more excuses. Get to cooking and making your server less hungry

Nice, a few things I could say. It seems your guide is aimed more towards trying to make some money leveling than just powering through it with a minimal loss. I'd reccomend maybe adding some quicker leveling options as well.
Pet food Gamma from 20-29, Delta from 30-39, bea and batagreen sautee from 46-55, I did stone cheese from 53 to cap. Also an awesome breakeven synth for the horrible 60's are pumpkin soup to around 63-64 then raisin bread to 68 (make in sand where stuff is easy to get imo). I did pear au lait from then 68-72, and then a mix of navarin and pamama au lait, mostly just npcing the au lait. For the cost of about 100k I got from 68 to 81 in one night, not bad. Then pumpkin pies to 85, rolanberry to 90, and flint caviar to 92, tonosama riceballs to 94 and rice dumplings to 95. I think that doing the rice dumplings from 92-95 might be best as flint caviar is often used for salads and such.

Very nice! Smiley: grin

I especially like how you linked everything, as it makes it much easier to read.

Just out of curiousity, couldn't you take the sliced sardines to 11? Mystrytour lists it as capping at 11 cooking, so it could be taken beyond level 10.

You could, however, since bug broth is profit and Sardines are not, I didn't see a reason to suggest them that high. But thank you for an idea, back to work ^^

I think it's nice to finally see a good that helps cookers make money back while leveling.

When I was leveling up many guides concentrated on speed instead of retaining/gaining as much money as possible.Nice guide, rate up.

Thank you! I think they there are MANY guides out there that encourage power crafting. I personally don't agree with that method of crafting. Part of the fun of FFXI's system is that if you are intelligent about what you are doing, you can make some profit off any craft while skilling up. Patience is a wonderful thing. And besides, guides like this one allow players who are just breaking into crafting and do not have a large starting captital to get to a decently high crafting level without breaking their bank. I'm actually teaching a Linkshell member how to make money in this game with this guide. He only had 10k to start out and now he has around 60k and is level 32 Cooking. No point in trying to kill yourself. I'll happily put a disclaimer up telling people this is not a power craft guide and I'll link to one. Thanks again for the support. ~Scrub

This is a very good cooking guide. The links, as mentioned above, make life a lot easier when trying to find certain synths. Thank you.

The only word of warning I have is with Shallops Tropicale, they are often a profit synth, but how much profit varies on an almost hourly basis. When I started on them they were selling consistantly at 7,000 a piece, they then jumped to 10,000, then back to under 5,000, all within about 2 weeks or maybe 18 days. I've started to skill on these again as they jumped back up to 8k, but because of the volatile nature mine have yet to sell ><. Good luck to anyone else checking this out as a viable skill up route.

PS These prices were from Leviathan server.

Just got cooking to 100 the other day, and I just have to add my piece on Red Curry over Sweet Rice Cakes.

There is a "limitless" supply of Fresh Mugwort on any server. This means that you can go out at anytime and get some Fresh Mugwort. It's in far greater supply than Dragon Meat.

Dragon Meat was at 60k when I first started grabbing it in prep for my run to 100. I did the "proper" thing by doing Sweet Rice Cakes to 99. When it came down to it, I ran out of gil at the time, and stopped buying Dragon Meat as it was just collecting dust in my moghouse for the time being (don't worry, I cleaned it before I used it).

After synthing up the meats to curry, I got .4 in 14 synths (lucky? Nope!). Dragon Meat was now at 80k per with the Curry selling for the same amount. One person was running the market on the Meats, buying them in what seemed to be the very second it hit the Auction House. Turns out this person was level 97 and choosing to skillup on the Red Curry rather than Sweet Rice Cakes. Well, items can only sell out ASAP for so long before someone puts it up for more gil. It got to the point where the price of Dragon Meat was 20k more than Red Curry because those people who are 99 *need* that meat to skillup (more on this later). So if it's never available on the AH, people will buy it for exorberant prices just to get it.

If you think you are clever by doing it like that to "save" money, all you are doing is making your 99 -> 100 run that much more expensive as your creating a virtual drought on an item that was never meant to handle the load of multiple skillups.

You can scream Cursed Soup all you want, but I did 18 synths of Cursed Soup one day for a great big .1. Went back to Dragon Meat and got .5 in 15 synths. From 99 -> 100, I only broke on Dragon Meat total.

I highly recomend Red Curry over Cursed Soup for skillups because of the success rate of the actual skillups. Plus, it's purchasable, and royal jelly has a horrible drop rate (and is also nearly unobtainable for anyone who's doing cooking on their mule).

This is excellent. I went through the possible synths myself a while back, and this is almost exactly the path I picked out (had a few different alternatives in places).

an alternative to 90-94 if you got 100k up front.

90-92: Flint Caviar x3: DArk Crystal + Rock Salt + Emperor Roe

Emperor Roe comes from desynthing Emperor fish, which only costs 8k a pop though the fish doesn't stack. Hold on the flint caviar for:

92-94: Torosama Rice Ball x2: Fire Crystal + Pantam Kelp + Tarutaru Rice + Flint CAviar + Distilled Water + Rock Salt

Tarutaru Rice is obtained by gardening (earthern flowerpot + grain seed + earth/fire/dark crystal). Pantam kelp you can buy dirt cheap from fishing guild or at AH. the rest you can buy from Rainbroy's Grocery. AH the rice balls

You should end up breaking even.

I go ahead and do Rice Dumplings to 95 (get woodworking to 22 is a good idea for the making of maple sugar during those weeks when sandy falls to 3rd in conquest), then back to tav. tacos and sweet rice cake. use red curry to get to 100 as the synth is break even at least but you will need about 150k up front and breaks can be costly.

Just a note: so far, while leveling cooking on my mule, I have skipped both the Meat Jerky and Pineapple Juice with minimal breakage issues. I did, however, start the next phase (Insect Paste particularly) on a good day with a fullish moon and advanced support (and facing the success direction just in case). I believe Insect Paste was a full moon. Cooking 36 and moving right along...

This guide is so good, it deserves a bump. =D

At 38 now and I've made about 250k+ so far...however, this guide isn't for the people who power level crafts...I've been cooking for 2 months now and just taking my time.

Great stuff.

This thread is what was missing through my earlier crafting days.

I had a thought for an addition to this. Could you possibly add what synths to do for profits as you progress? I'm lvl 59 now, and I'm debating whether I should keep doing yag drinks or start HQing low level synths (jug pets mainly) for profit.

Perhaps I'll just have to figure this one out myself...

Anyway, outstanding guide. Thank you very much.

Ok update! All prices have been added to raw ingredients based on Odin server pricing and NPCs as of 9/22/05. Didn't add crystals. Also, if you could buy the item from the NPC, i added the NPC price regardless if it comes cheaper from AH like cinnamon and dhalmel meat. Remember, this is just from ODIN, your milage can and will vary. I'll figure in crystals soon and do cost/resell AH/ resell NPC figures on next update Take care

Woohoo, you just made your awesomely good guide even better~

Now I can actually plan ahead how much I'm gonna be spending in advance. Thank you!

By the way this guide rocks...sure you may have to slow down leveling to enable everything to sell (I.E - dhalmel steak >.<) but that's not always a bad thing. I already have my fish making item and am 23,000 into my chef hat points.

on Remora, synthing Tav. Tacos is about 12k to 15k loss per synth right now, due to undercutters that try to slash the price the moment it hits around 40k/stack. It is also cheaper to camp the AH for the salads because they cost 25k each and two of the fish that is used for it cost a combined 20k.

I've been using this as an outline for cooking so far (just hit 48), and for the most part it has been a really nice guide.

I've started using different synths lately, though. I wanted to try out pickled herring, but couldn't find any herring ANYWHERE in any AH, so the opportunity to skillup on that was pretty much nonexistant. As an alternative, I picked up a few stacks of dark crystals and all the san d'orian grapes I could hold, and headed to windy and used adv. image support to get over that level gap.

Also, since Sandy is in last for the second week in a row (and the next conquest isn't looking good...), apple pies were out of the question because I wouldn't be able to get my maple sugar from anywhere but the AH (ouch, 10k/stack). Call me crazy, but instead I skilled up from 46 to about 48.5 on pet food epsilon. Cockatrice Meat is about 40k/stack, but oddly enough, 1-2k for a single piece. Picked pet food epsilon at this level over apple pies because the pet food actually sells for 20k/stack, so there is much more profit to be had.

I will disagree with you that insect paste/meatballs/etc. sell well in Windy. I used the insect paste to fish up moat carp for 10k/stack, and just NPCed the meatballs for minimal loss. I'd HIGHLY suggest picking up a carbon or hume rod, and sitting in one of the cities fishing up moat carp with all the insect paste you'll be making. We're talking Xbox HUEG profit.

I need advice: I've posted everywhere about this now and noone will help me.

I'm on level 11 with cooking and tried to use selbina butter to skill up. Well, no lie, I failed 50 synths in a row before stopping and asking what's wrong. I've been using advanced image support the whole time and face EAST like the compass everyone looks to as accurate says to in order to have the highest rate for success. The entire time, I got 1 .1 skill up and I'm starting to lose my mind. I've looked at the other 2 alternatives and am in trouble. The other alternatives are shrooms and bug broth.

Shrooms are 10k a stack and a nightmare to farm. The outcome of the recipes come to 5k a stack on AH, meaning I'd lose 5k for each stack I synthed.

As for bug broth, lugworm are easy to get. However, shell bugs are rare. They're never on AH.

Am I stuck trying to cope with selbina butter, losing all these synths, or is their something else I could do besides farming for the other recipes?

Since you are going to update it, might want to change Tavnazian Tacos. I believe they lowered the cap on those to actually be below the Salads now. At least according to Somepage and mysterytour they are now. Sucks *** too.

Well Zephenia, I may be late, but I'll post what I'd do in the situation anyway. >_>

Try on iceday with advanced imagery support. Hopefully that'll give you a big enough boost in crafting ability to help you over that initial hill of trying to skillup so far below the cap.

If you want to try farming mushrooms, head to pashow marshlands and kill funguar there. All 3 types of mushrooms are interchangable, all making the same item. With /THF or THF main, it shouldn't be TOO painful to farm.

Better than farming bone chips for Bonecraft anyway. :D

Yes, I'm aware of Tavnazian Taco's being messed up. Fixed the issue for now in plain text form. I'll go back and format it when I get a chance. Also going over new synths for possible replacement of old recipe suggestions. Any ideas are appreciated.

this is a good alternative to carrot broth if you have time to fish. i bought a 10 gil rod (got lucky on the Fastwater Fishing Rod), 48 gil a stack of little worms x5 (240 gil altogether), and had some stacks of wind crystals handy. you get to level fishing, farm moat carp, and level cooking at the same time. not to mention peeled crayfish do well on AH because they can be used as bait.

this is the same level craft as carrot broth; the extra time spent fishing is well worth the profits of both moat carp and peeled crayfish - so it can fund itself easily, and you get to level two crafts that are easy money makers.

I did Orange Kuchen to level 80 because Navarin just sold to slow for the expense it cost to make. It's a lot cheaper than Navarin to make but sells a little slower but still for good profit. Even if you dump the stuff, it's so cheap to make it doesn't matter. Everything can be bought from NPC's other than crystals. It's actually pretty darn good mage food, basically Marron Glace Junior.

Recipe: Fire Crystal, San d'Orian Flour (buy from Raimbroy's in Sandy), Selbina Butter (Craft yourself), Maple Sugar (buy from Raimbroy's in Sandy), Saruta Orange x2 (buy from Taru NPC by North gate in Windy waters, unless for some odd reason Sarutabaruta isn't under windy control), Bird Egg (by from airship vendor)

The guide is now being updated. Today the guide some with 100% more new synths (read 1 lol) and I'm going to work on revamping the price guide tomorrow. More to come as always, 1. More conjecture at the intro, 2. A guide on GP (which has been in the works forever now) and 3. Something totally new that I haven't yet decided on ^^. Take care all and as always, suggestions are appreciated.

Mulsum not Muslum (or Islam, for that matter).^^

Fantastic guide. Very informative, accurate, and nicely 'linked'.

If you don't mind, I think I might turn this into an excel spreadsheet where the user can input their own server prices for non-NPC ingredients.

Then it will kick out the total cost of an individual synth, total revenue of an individual synth, and then the total profit of an individual sale as well as what I call a "Synth Stack Profit" or SSP (usually we all synth in stacks of 12 crystals, the profit from selling all of those is the SSP). Again, I *might* do this.

FYI on Asura dragon meat is 160k! (red curry is 150? ... don't understand why the cookers would even sell it for that). Not much longer until I'm cooking that junk.

No-one else seems to have suggested this, but I would do (and have just done) Brain Stew from 95-96. Made a stack, sold during the week, etc. First two stacks I only got .4 but then had an amazing .6 in one stack last night(Earthday facing West not that this probably matters). It sells for approx as much as it costs to make. No-one on my server seems to make (or maybe buy) SeaBass Croute so it's Sweet Rice Cakes 96-99 for me, argh around 1Million loss, and then certainly Red Curry as it sells very well!

I've been leveling my cooking up, up to 51 already. It's nice to finally find a fairly up to day guide. All of the guides I have been finding were from 2004. I had been wondering if there were any new alternatives to skilling up then the older guides listed. I was skilling up on beautue (sp) sautee, getting very few skill ups and taking a slight loss. Now I can try out some new recipes. Thanks

Here are some more alternatives if you wish, especially since the expansion changed the crystal market:

6 - Hard Boiled Egg - Fire - Bird Egg (Buy from airship dock), distilled water (Water tank is a great way to do this)

10 - Orange Juice - Water - 4x Saruta Oranges (from Sandy merchant, or guild)

14 - Tortilla's - Fire - Sandy Flour (Sandy Grocery Store), Olive Oil (Same sandy grocery store), Millioncorn, Rock Salt (basically if Sandy is 1st or second, you can sit at Rainbrows and synth these) - They do sell, since there are a lot of taco makers, but this is a fairly cheap synth.

24 - Salsa - Water - Kazham Peppers, Wild Onions, Rock Salt, Ghaysl Greens, Mithran Tomatos - once again, may sell for small profit, or can NPC, depends on onion price.

70 - Sandy Tea - Fire - Tea Leaves, Water, Sage, Milk, Maple Sugar

this is a good alternative to carrot broth if you have time to fish. i bought a 10 gil rod (got lucky on the Fastwater Fishing Rod), 48 gil a stack of little worms x5 (240 gil altogether), and had some stacks of wind crystals handy. you get to level fishing, farm moat carp, and level cooking at the same time. not to mention peeled crayfish do well on AH because they can be used as bait.

this is the same level craft as carrot broth; the extra time spent fishing is well worth the profits of both moat carp and peeled crayfish - so it can fund itself easily, and you get to level two crafts that are easy money makers.

Great post. Fishing at the same time, particularly at the lower levels is the way to go. I didn't pay a dime for the first couple of levels because I already had the fishing gear. I got to level two crafts at once and made a profit on these and the sliced sardines (sold them for 660/stack to NPC in Bastok for a profit of...660/stack). Then I turned around and used that money to fund the salmon subs and bug broth, both of which have made me even more profit (the subs to AH and the broth to NPC). Now I am onto the butter, which is the only thing that has cost me any money, but the profits from the previous ones keep me in the positive; not to mention, I can use the butter later as Randomscrub says. However, the insect paste is where it really pays off for the fishing/cooking combo.

BTW, excellent guide Randomscrub! It has been a huge help!
