Server is down again due to Beta update and the maker of the current admin tool I'm using deciding not to work on it anymore. I will let you know as soon as I have a replacement set up. If you want a copy of the current saved world so you can keep working on your projects, let me know and I'll find somewhere to upload it.

But does it set the target on fire?

Nope. Eggs and snowballs are thrown like what happens when you push Q, arrows are shot like from a bow, but the others just drop like when you use Q.

I don't hack, so I'm not sure what would happen using a water, lava, or fire block.

This sounds like a whole lot of new possibility with redstone and traps.

I ran into something pretty neat today while playing. I died and when I respawned it was night. Off in the distance I saw what looked like fire. I'm playing a single player game and I've never gone off in the direction so I checked it out and found a forest fire. I watched as tree after tree caught fire until it couldn't spread anymore. I climbed a nearby hill and the fire filled my entire screen. I took some screen shots, which I would post if I could manage to find what folder they're in.

I explored around a little and found an open lava pit in the same area as the fire. I'm guessing that a tree grew too close to it and caught fire and it spread from there. This world I'm playing right now has a ridiculous amount of lava. Down in the bottom of my main mine (the entrance of which I'm building a house around) there are pools of it everywhere, I don't even use torches down there. Every time I break into a new chamber there's lava. If I ever need obsidian, there's tons of it down there as well. It's actually pretty much a perfect mine. Lot's of all the ore's including a reasonable amount of diamond, no need for torches, and it took almost no digging to get down there. I just followed a massive network of caves until I got to the goods.

Agreed. Yahtzee is hilarious. He also rips apart almost every game, so his like of Minecraft is a major thumbs up.

I really wish we would get some more new content. Every time a major content update comes out, I fall in love with Minecraft again. But now I need to wait weeks and weeks for something else. Sigh.

I just spent about 4 hours watching his videos for games I've played. Also, yeah, Minecraft needs new stuff. I'd be happy with more things/machines we can build-- (elevators, guns, etc.)

While they aren't QUITE what you want, there are water elevators and arrow turrets currently in the game Smiley: grin There are water elevators that actually don't look like they use water, even!

Try mixing in some Brick/Wood/Obsidian accents around certain parts, see if it makes it a little less plain.

No updates lately makes me sad; Notch is apparently on a 2-week vacation. Apparently Jud, one of the new guys, is working on a new block.

As far as projects go, I'm in the process of making a dam. Need to figure out how I want to make the front more attractive, but I've already got the lake set up. It's a really cool project, and kinda dangerous as it's out in the open and I work through the nights while fending off nasty beasties Smiley: lol I'm basing it approximately off of the dam in this thread, although mine is a bit bigger.
Example of the dam I'm going for:
Minecraft dam

Truth be told I stayed up late last night working on it, forgoing some sleep I desperately needed Smiley: grin Right now my dam is just a straight wall down. I'm trying to think of some neat way to connect it to a nearby ocean. I think I can do it, but we'll see... I ran out of cobblestone, so I need to go to another base and mine more (I used 10 stacks of the stuff... and I'm maybe 2/3 done?).

Funny you should ask... I'm actually thinking of making an EATS boat-highway system. On the downside, it can only go in a straight line and requires a lot more building time than a minecart/booster system; on the plus side, no need for iron.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5pXx97vEOY

If I get a chance I also want to test a bunch of new concepts I've read about recently, including:
-Making water travel uphill
-"Magnetic forcefields"
-Combining forcefields to make "black holes" (basically glitching the game to instantly teleport and/or kill myself by accident Smiley: grin)
-Making a pleasing noteblock song in my bases using redstone
-Heck, using redstone at all! I have a bunch and have never made anything with it.

Fantastic documentary on Minecraft by what seems to be an indie film crew! http://www.gametrailers.com/video/documentary-hd-minecraft/710788

Also, mini-patch on Tuesday if you missed it:
Quote:
* Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
* Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
* Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
* New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
* It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
* Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
* Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
* .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!

For the bed, it's made with three cotton (any color, always becomes red when made) on top of three wooden blocks.

--- (empty)
CCC (cotton)
WWW (wood)

If you are not in a well-lit area, you can be woken up by monsters, haha.

The new half blocks are cobblestone, sandstone, and stone (same as before, but now made by stone, not cobblestone). Sandstone can now be found naturally underneath regular sand.

Looking forward to seeing a scarecrow in the future Smiley: grin

There are manly men with powertools in our office, punching floors and walls in an attempt to make things look better. As a result, we haven’t been able to work from the office this week, and worked from home. Jens spent most of the week working on a new mob; the wolf! You can tame it and order it to follow you around, and it’ll work as a pet. They’re fairly rare, but they won’t despawn once you’ve tamed them.

I worked on the achievement and stats system. One design issue was dealing with offline mode and synching the achievements once you get a connection again, but that’s been solved. We’ve got a couple of people in the office who don’t like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that they’re fine with.

Achievements will NOT be chores like “cut down 10000 trees”, but rather challenges like “ride a pig off a cliff”. Stats, however, will be used to keep track of how many trees you have cut down. The long term plan is to show achievements and stats from the profile page on minecraft.net as well, in case you want to brag.

Just keep in mind that because you can design your own levels and run your own servers, people will be able to cheat with achievements and stats! ;)

Oh, and here’s a vid of the wolves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9Lp9p5yjuo

The wolves look pretty amazing. I'm very impressed. It seems you can have more than one as well... Just how many I'm not sure, but I look forward to commanding a massive army of wolves~!

Speaking of, I finally finished the outer shell of my house. The towers took forever to build and the roof was just tedious. Now to put in some rooms and decorations and such.

The building from a distance.

From the front porch.

The unfinished inside

Inside one of the towers.

I'm thinking of making a few chandelier type devices out of glass and lava. I'm not sure how it's going to work out though, I haven't played around with lava much, other than to turn it into obsidian. The main entrance will have stairs arcing around the sides to get up to the second floor. Aside from that, and a vague idea about adding some type of decorative bits to the outside of the building I'm not sure what I want to do. I do still need to install the stairs in the towers to get up to the top, I'm not sure if I'll just add the stairs with a single top floor, or if I'll do several floors.

Looks like it will probably go against Obsidian also. I highly doubt it will beat them though. Obsidian does have some very solid titles to it's name. Even if it does make it past Obsidian, it will have Valve to content with. If Minecraft somehow beats Valve I will cry in a corner. :l

I finally picked up the flying mod and have found it to be ridiculously helpful for building large structures. Today, there was an update to the game that broke the mod. Anyone know how long it usually takes for mods to get updated?

Generally, it will take a day or two, it really depends on who made it. For all you know, it might not get updated at all, seeing as how all the mods are just volunteer work.
By the way, I don't know if you've heard about Adventurecraft, but it's possibly the best and most sophisticated mod out there right now. It was actually coded by the guy who made Recount for WoW, afaik ^^.
Here's a little snippet from the wiki:
'AdventureCraft is a total conversion for MineCraft, which turns the game into a pure adventure mode in which players cannot place or destroy blocks.'
For those interested:
You can design your own maps, or play maps other people made, and the amount of possibilities for puzzles, traps and combat scenarios is just...endless!
Links;
Wiki (you can download maps here) : http://adventurecraft.wikkii.com/wiki/Main_Page
Forum topic : http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1032&t=128281
And no, I don't work for them or anything, the mod is just that **** good, I thought I would advertise it ^^. I can see the guy that made this getting hired by Mojang and the mod being implemented into the game itself.
P.S. Minecraft - best game ever, but only thanks to its community and the 50343123225 mods out there ^^.

I didn't manage to find any wolves last night, but they sound a little buggy right now. They won't walk through doors, if you log out with them sitting down they won't do anything once you log back in, and they're as dumb as mobs when it comes to navigating fire/lava traps. I still want one, though! Or an army, haha.

Get bones from skeletons and give them to the wolves. It takes a random amount, I think between 1 and 3. Once tamed they get a red collar and follow you forever. You can restore their health by feeding them pork chops.

<p> to turn off all monsters you can open options in game {esc>options>difficulty} if you turn the difficulty to peaceful, no monsters will spawn and your health will regenerate quickly.
i would seriously recommend using INVEdit, but if you do not like that stuff then you can just keep on searching and searching. I still find the game very entertaining and if you are really tired of the real world, then go to the nether. Sorry if i could not be of any help.

I read that if you run back to where you died, you can get it back. Not sure if that's true though...

im so angry, I died like a ****** in my first serious mining expedition. I had found a dozen or so diamonds and about 100 red stones. Then I saw it the most beautiful piece of Iron sitting next to a waterfall bordered by some Magma. So I went over and blocked the Magma so it woulnd run into the hole I was about to make, broke the Iron and got washed into lava by water.... So much work down the drain, all for a stupid piece of Iron that was more or less obsolete because I had found diamond.

So angry....
