I gotta say, Im super excited about all the rogue souls... So many choices, all awesome rogue archetypes. Having a hard time deciding which I like more. Needless the say I like them all. Can't wait for this game.

Haha I completely agree with you on this mate.
Rogue is probably my fav class in any mmo so no doubt I will be making one in Rift aswell.

I too have a hard time deciding what sould I will be using but atm I'm leaning more towards Ranger because I have always liked playing with a ranged character and also with pets ofcourse.

But still the best way to find out what to choose is just to try them all out and see which one suits you the best. And that is exactly what I'm going to do once I get the chance to play it.

I too am tending towards a Rogue soul, Ranger or Riftstalker. also intrigued by the Coming soon category. I am drooling to get started with this adventure!

If I decide to roll a PvP server then definitely going Rogue calling, Riftstalker probably. Stealth is just too damn OP in every game.

riftrolebuilder.com makes it look like the cleric's shaman will be an anti-rogue, with upgradeable passive stealth detection and an ability that prevents the target from going into stealth for a while. Good luck feeding on the mages and other less-prepared clerics though!

I might try making a melee/pet type but I debate if its worth it compared to some warrior options.

Not sure how the mechanics are gonna go down, but the idea of a sabateur and marksman combo sounds like a blast. Lay some bombs sit back and blast away. Could be sweet for kiting.

Rogues are a hit or miss for me. WoW rogue I never got into, but Vanguard rogue = best class in any MMO.

We'll have to wait and see if Rift rogues are any good.

A friend of mine in beta rerolled after his sin got close to 20. Maybe they'll be good for endgame or pvp but pve doesn't seem so great.

Assassins seems indeed to be designed as a pvp character: hide not breaking on damage, and got a vanish that makes you immune to damage for next 3 sec... Uh?!

Got the classic +X% damage when attacking from behind, which means good dps when tank can keep agro :P

I didn't get to try all the rogue souls but the ones I did try out and read through all looked interesting each with a unique play style and with what almost looks like endless amounts of soul tree combinations makes me more excited to see this game through till release.

I've been thinking about trying out Rogue, but not sure if I could make one that would fit what I want.

If I could make some sort of Scout type class...One that would run around with a Bow and attack from ranged, but also have two swords (or daggers) and decent melee abilities for when enemies got in close. I think that would be an incredibly fun playstyle, bouncing in between ranged and melee combat; I just have no idea if RIFT's Rogue class can mix sub classes / specs to get that playstyle and be effective.

Let me know what you guys think I should put together as far as specs/sub classes, if I go for that sort of style. Or if that's even possible...

If you havnt noticed, you choose 3 sub classes. So saying you are going to be a ranger is only 1/3 of the decision. Trust me, regardless of what you think you are going to play, as soon as you start seeing how the different classes' abilities play out with each other, its near impossible to stay with just one build. I chose Bard as my first soul, blade dancer and riftstalker. This basically means that I have stealth, i play songs for support and I have an arsenal of magic ranged attacks that give me combo points so that the time the enemy makes it to me, if they indeed do, I already have 5 combo points and they are at 60-70%. I must say, the possibilities in this game are endless as far as class customization goes.

I think you could make it work for soloing at least, though ideally with a pet you wouldn't ever really need to get into melee... but that's up to you. I say go for it.

You think there's anyway to make it viable for PvP? I've only gotten to the mid-teen levels, so haven't done much PvP. From your experience is it more beneficial to focus on one type of combat, or one "role" in Rift, or is it really possible to make yourself able to fulfill multiple roles and still be effective? Or is it still too early to say really?
