Just a heads up. Check the chest in the mansion in Majula for a new item every week until the DLC. Right now it's 3 petrified something for silky smooth trading.

I got an old whip and a channelers trident. Smiley: cool

In the basement. The one that had an estus flask shard in it originally. You get the mansion key from the map guy in forest of giants.

So, since Namco decided to be a bunch of ********, they're continuing with GFWL for Dark Souls even after the service shuts down. I don't even know how that's possible.

So I'm looking for a no-GFWL crack if anyone has one.

Stuck on the Smelter Demon currently. I know I can skip him, but I don't really want to. I guess I'm not going to be able to do it without more Fire Resist.
#107 Jun 09 2014 at 7:57 AM Rating: Good
The alonne armor has high fire resist. The set is heavy but you can mix in some pieces. After you free the pyromancy lady she sells a fire resist ring. and if you really want to go crazy infuse fire into the royal kite shield. (I skipped that last part.)

Weekend:

I took my Dex toon to 100+ SL just to farm the samurai stuff from the alonne knights. Dual wielding black steel katana's looks cool.

I switched back to caster and completed black gulch, shaded woods, doors, and brightstone. Then cruised my way to castle D. I burned a ascetic on heide's so I could get a new dragon rider bow. I fended off a red or two once the bonfire was level 2 (NG+)

I don't think I am going to take my caster to NG+ because I want to see the DLC in normal once first. We'll see.

*Got Sunlight Straight sword! B/B scaling and a great moveset. Tempted to infuse it even though I know that's naughty. My caster only has 20S/18Dex though and 42 FTH. I'm sure I will pick up more dex and str in NG+ though and regret infusing it. I can always do it then use a palestone to strip it later I think.

I'll have to grab the ring and try to mix some Alonne in. I'm using the Dragonrider Greatshield which has 75% resist, so that's not too bad. I am running a fairly fat build already, so Alonne might not be too much heavier. I'm just getting eaten up by the passive AoE. Also, he seems way more accurate once he ignites his sword. Circlestrafing gets me up to that point without getting hit, but I actually have to rolldodge occasionally when he lights his sword on fire.

I summoned Lucatiel of Mirrah as well as a sunbro. Lucatiel has lots of hitpoints and is a good soaker. She will die though eventually if you can't burn him during fire aura phase. I DPSed him with my sword during phase one and then once he went nova jumped back and started with the lightning and hexes. He seems fairly resistant and the damage was not fantastic from the spells but they did wittle him down before Lucatiel died which was nice.

I even stayed to kill him a few more times in jolly co-op mostly successfully. Except when the host died once. I'd offer to jump in to help but my SM is getting kinda ridiculous now. I was already well over a million before I took out the last great soul (Dukes Dear Spider). The green lady was like: Umm ok just go to the castle already. Smiley: lol Not yet! Wanna kill them all.

My dex guy could maybe help, his dragonrider bow +2 and short bow +5 actually hit smelter respectably hard. I did the same thing on him but swap spell time for bow time. I'll probably take both to NG+ eventually.

Dex is weird. Some things are easier with such a strong bow (40 Dex) and crazy melee DPS. But with no shield it gets dicey against certain mobs. You got to be near perfect not to constantly soak counter hits. It's a fun change of pace though from Block/Counter or Spell. And bosses and mobs you should not block anyway go down pretty fast. Frankly that toon could pretty much shoot everything with the bow and never melee but it's not as fun as looking all flourishy in power stance.

Apparently my Soul Memory is 740k. I seem to have no problem playing co-op with others, so I guess it's appropriate for where I am.
#111 Jun 09 2014 at 4:40 PM Rating: Good
There is a whole range thing but it's weird. I think it tries to find appropriate range first and then opens up some. I was doing some sunbroing on Mirror Knight in Castle D and popping summons super fast at lunch. Even though I am ~1.6m SM. That's only SL level 120 though because I spend so much souls on collecting spells, weapons, and armor + upgrading. I pretty much try to buy all spells so I can use them later if I ever want and to have multiples for NG+

My Dex character is SL 101 at only 780K SM and only two bosses ahead of you so I guess that is pretty standard. I was sunbroing harder on the caster as well and I think that is partially why she has such a high SM. My Dex toon does not bother to collect spells so more is sunk into levels.

I guess I could go un-petrify that statue in the woods by the guy with the blue sword, and see what's in there. I think that's the pyromancer girl, too, and I could use the flame-resist ring anyway.

I did not realize you had not tried that yet. Not sure what to spoiler anymore but yeah huge part of the game behind her. Be careful to complete your interactions with her before you pull the trigger. "Be wary of ambush!" Also dress her sexy. ;)

I only had two extra pieces of gear on me, so I think she got an Alonne body piece and legs. Smiley: lol

Ended up clearing the Smelter Demon. Accidentally went up to some PvP area with like constant invasions. I am not kitted out for PvP at all, so I'll either cheat and go through it offline or just skip it.

It's fairly short. I usually just rush through it to grab the spices and hidden items on the other side.

Now I just want to make a new character. I barely ever use Heal, and I don't know that I feel like bumping my Faith up enough to use Lightning Spear, or if it'd even be worth it at this point. I'm pretty much just a STR character. I only really use Heal when sunbroing to heal up the other players to conserve Estus. Of course, now I have like 8 Estus so I don't even really care about that anymore, either. Smiley: lol

Lightning spear is super useful in some fights. I highly recommend it. Unless you're using an xbow or something. But you gotta have ranged... and some bosses are weak to lightning which is nice.

I just have a regular bow that I use for pulling. I guess I'll just put levels into Faith. I could also use the thing to lower the requirement on a spell on LS.
#119 Jun 11 2014 at 1:28 PM Rating: Good
I use LS or GLS first and if the damage is not good swap to Rune Sphere. Between Lightning and hexes one of them usually hits a boss really hard. I'm collecting all the spells but I have not been using pyro or regular magic much tbh. I might in NG+

My character is sort of a swiss army knife. Can shoot bow well (Magic infused Dragonrider bow). Can Lightning. Can Spell. Can wear heavy armor (Well Alva) or robes. Uses a Fire Claymore +10 to melee.

My highest stat is Faith at 42 to GLS. I might spice down some Sunlight Spear at some point need like 2 more medals to get it. But I like having an option for any occasion. I said it before but I think it's pretty cool how unspecialized you can be even in NG and do fine. It used to take NG+ at least in DS1 to start non specializing as it was just so much more effective to use a focused build in DS1.

Here are my stats:
Screenshot

Gonna work on Int to 30 ish
and VGR and End to 20 next

*Forgot to add you don't have to reroll unless you want to. You can respec using a soul vessel and talkign to the old lady at the table in things betwixt. I totally repeced this toon when I realized I liked the lightning/hex power with my sunbroness better than pure spell power. Started this toon as a mage. :)

This is where I'm at right now:
Screenshot

I am working on upgrading some more of my weapons and armor first before leveling more at the moment. I'd like to get my equip load under 70% though, so I'll have to pump a few more points into VIT.
#121 Jun 11 2014 at 10:16 PM Rating: Good
That's really pretty solid. Your only 3 points in faith from Lightning spear. You can pick up one from the cleric lady who spins the room and one from the chest in earthen peak and you would suddenly have 22 Lightning spears in your ******** With that strength and dex the dragonrider bow would do respectable damage as well.

I know you bought the dragonrider shield but if you bonfire ascetic Heidies first bonfire it's really not too bad getting a second dragon rider soul, you can summon to help you get past him again and its good farming. You could mix in a lighter piece or two of Alva's armor (Light weight high defense) and then still use your greatshield if you wanted to stay under 70%. You can buy Alva's from the merchant in Majula after you spend 16k souls total with him so he upgrades his stock. Very very nice set and easy to get.

Plus that 35 str will allow you to use some fun heavy weapons that I can't wield (and greatshields). My trade off is better spells but some of the str weapons are pretty damn uber.

* Edit also the bonfire past Smelter demon has a bunch of very high value super awesome to farm guys in a small room on the way to Iron King. If you get Lightning spear and pick up the binoculars to snipe them you can clean up in that room for like 15-20k per run in about 10 minutes. I pretty much farmed them gone.

Iron King was kind of annoying until I figured out to force his initial spawn to be close to the left edge. Then I could just hide behind the side of the building 'til he smashed a fist down. It definitely would have gone faster with LS. Smiley: lol Working my way to scorpion lady at the moment. Killed the giant gecko thing, but got ganked by an invader.

Also, I am still really loving this Flame Longsword. Two-handed strong attack moveset are straight-ahead stabbing motions instead of sweeping slashes, which make it really nice for corridor fights (I guess I could get a spear).

In the misted woods on the way to the area of shaded ruins you are in now there is a vendor (Vengarls head in a small circle of ruins) that sells the claymore. One hand R1 is sweeps R2 is thrust. C/C scaling. (best weapon ever!?) Sunlight Sword has a real similar moveset as well. Except the thrust on R2 is repeatable with Sunlight sword. Basically it reverses the 1h and 2h of standard longsword.

I used the fire sword plenty as well before I got the claymore. It spammy r1 can lay down some pretty fast damage.

I accidentally made a Poison Zweihander. Smiley: lol Don't get me wrong, I like poison weapons, but it really needs to be applied to a quicker weapon. I might infuse a Morning Star with it. Bleed and Poison together sounds fun. From the looks of it, it won't remove the Bleed effect of the Morning Star, just lessens it a little.
