I just watched the video's on Steam and it made me nerd emogasm pretty hard.

So I have this debate going in my head. Get for my PS3 on the 11th or wait for PC version April 25th...

On one hand I am pretty obsessed with Path of Exile still atm and I'm not sure that will fade in 3 days. On the other hand ITS MOFUGGIN DS2 and DS was one of my favorite games of all time.

I'm guessing someone will make a DS2 fix to make the graphics better than the console versions but it's not really about graphics with DS games anyway.

Can't decide.

Watcha gun do?

Which did you play DS on?

I'd say go with that. You're not going to want to go into it with a whole new control scheme, I imagine. Okay, sure, you can use your controller on the PC. But if you enjoyed the experience on the PS3, why not?

Not only can you, I'm pretty sure Steam has a note that it is Highly recommended (apparently keyboard controls for DS sucks).

I'll play test the PC version for you, just send me your key.

Started playing today, and my impression from the Beta stands: Sorceries suck at start. Not starting with a shield sucks even worse.

Things got better when I got a shield, but I still really need to pump int, attunement and get another couple spells.

I'm holding out until PC I decided, while I enjoy the new PoE expansion. Looking forward to hearing every ones impressions though!

What spell did the sorc start with? Just a soul arrow?

Now that I have a fire sword, 62 charges of soul arrows and some odd number of Greater Soul Arrows, things are much different. I actually feel like I can fight these bastards. Much different than "Good luck with this dagger and this piddly number of spell charges".

How do you get 62 charges? Buying another soul arrow will give you 60 but where did you get the extra 2?

As your attunement gets higher, you get a bonus on your charges. Since I have 2 stacks of soul arrows, I get a bonus one on each at this point.

Huh. Now that's interesting. It seems catalysts can be upgraded now. With a quick test on some pigs, it seems to have upped the damage of the spells a bit. Will test further when I've got more souls to spend on it.

Edit: Another upgrade. 147 on a Great Soul Arrow went up to 150. Seems like it does indeed work. Now I just need to find a catalyst worth upgrading all the way.

Nice on the catalyst, I'm sure I will make a caster at some point.I'm thinking warrior type quality build guy first though. My last DS play I really fell in love with dex/str balance weapons like Halberd + 15, winged spear (ok its primary dex), and longsword/claymore.

Should I go back and finish DS1 before this comes out for PC? I never finished it because I stopped pulling out my 360, but I feel like I should make an effort to do so before I start on DS2. Even though the game isn't necessarily played for the plot I think it'd be a worthwhile endeavor... at the very least to get me re-acquainted with the intricacies of the game, even if the controls will be different when I pick up DS2 for PC.

You need to warm up with Demon's Souls first, then start Dark Souls. If you just want to catch up on the Dark Souls storyline, then here you go.

Managed to get the Twinblade on my melee character, which was my goal weapon. Sadly, while its damage is acceptable(low per hit, but a ton of hits per attack), it does have a problem. Apparently I can burn through almost all of the durability in a single boss fight.

Still, though. I believe that combining it with Dark Weapon or Sunlight Blade could make for some silly good damage output. Or maybe making it into a poison weapon.

The game actually has a surprisingly deep plot. Check out VaatiVidya's channel for a ton of great lore videos. And either way, it'll definitely make it easier to get past the more frustrating aspects by warming up before diving into DS2.

Took down* the final boss this morning, as well as the bonus boss in the Dark Chasm and pretty much every optional boss-like foe. All in all, fairly entertaining thus far. Looking forward to NG+. Supposed to be some interesting changes to the world and boss fights when you hit NG+.

*To be fair, I used the cheat code. Step to the left, step to the right, step to the left - FUS RO SOUL GEYSER. Seriously, that spell might be a little OP. Two shotted the Guardian Dragon. Took something like two hits of that and a soul spear to down the final boss. Two soul spears and a soul geyser took out the bonus boss. Went to the trouble of using a bonfire ascetic to get the Moonlight Greatsword and it only saw any real use on trash mobs and King Vendrick, and only because he was too skinny for Soul Geyser to multihit effectively.

Grats! How many hours was that? Also I wonder if they will patch that spell before the PC version.

I think I was somewhere between 45-55 hours on that character. I"ll check when I load up after breakfast. As for patching it, it's possible. People have apparently been complaining. Edit: 63 hours played, though the last hour was toying around with different weapons after boss killing.

So, if you love the 2h Twinblade moveset like I do, but were also disappointed in its durability issues, there is hope. Unbreakable hope that's a pain in the *** to unlock. Not hard, mind you. Just thirty minutes of meleeing a wall annoying. Behold, Santier's Spear.

It doesn't scale*, which makes it a great candidate for Raw. Its moveset is rather interesting.

Quote:
1 handed:
first and second light attack - spear
first and second strong attack - halberd
roll light attack - twinblade
backstep/run light attack - curved sword
2 handed:
first and second light attack - twinblade
first strong attack - twinblade
second strong attack - halberd
roll light attack - twinblade
backstep/run light attack - halberd

*I hear that it scales with Mundane, but have fun putting 20 points into everything to make that viable.

You should see how that move does breaking guards.

Also, from looking up twinblade things, I ran across this.

Giant Bomb's quick look at the PC version. Looks pretty good, 60 fps is nice. Some very minor early game spoilers later on in the video, but they'll warn you ahead of time.

If the video doesn't work, reload the page and go to Quality and pick Progressive before hitting play.

There are some rather awesome videos out already. This one was cool for spectacle:

My roommate tells me that Lobosjr has been talking about doing an "Olympic Torch" run, keeping the torch lit through the entire playthrough, as I understand it. That should also be pretty damn cool. Mostly though, the spammers have pushed a bunch of threads off of page 1 and I wanted to bring this one back.
