I had completely forgotten about it, and didn't know BETA was active. But I got an invite this morning to a 3 hours stress test on Friday...

It's a stress test for the servers. It says in the e-mail that if you participate for at least an hour, it'll help you get into the "real" beta testing.

Also, you get a sweet monkey!

Edit: Although I question their timing. It starts at 6pm Eastern (Friday) which is workable for me in the Central zone but would suck for someone on the west coast who gets home around 5ish their time. They'd have maybe an hour to get in, assuming no problems.

I did, which is weird because I don't remember signing up for it. In fact, I had to google what "ESO" was to begin with to figure out what the hell it was.

I got one as well, and assumed it was some elaborate phishing scheme. Glad to know it's legit - I will definitely be giving it a whirl!

Edit: It must have been my extensive MMO haxxoring experience that secured an invite.

This! I was getting at least 1.5 here, and I have no data caps so 19GB isn't a big deal to me.

I'm successfully playing, just got past the tutorial zone.

Game definitely needs some polishing, but it does play like Skyrim, just online. It's not really a WoW clone with Elder Scrolls skin like I expected.

Edit:
Zoned, and it froze at just over 50% loading, and now is stuck there, forced exit twice and relogged, still sticks at 50% load.

Worked now. Inn is filled with 100s of people, all dancing on the tables.

Sounds like the real beta is also active, and a few people are saying things like "It'll get better at 9 when this stress test is over".

No, I only saw the one "LIVE" server.

I hope they add Xbox 360 PC controller support, like in Skyrim. I was pleasantly surprised by the game. A few fears put to rest, but there is a lot of work left to do on it.

It looks like Skyrim, and it plays like Skyrim, but there's not much suspense in stalking through a dungeon with 9 other dudes jumping all over the place and smashing mobs.

True that. I thought the dungeons might be instanced but nope.

I accidentally picked some magic staff/spear thing in the tutorial and can't find a new weapon for the life of me. I hate the way my weapon plays: some sort of life sucking stream thingie. I'm supposed to be a paladin type -- gimme my sword 'n board or two-handed smasher.

I picked up a sword/shield, and when I was in the camp outside the prison, I opened a chest and got a magical ice staff.

It looks like chests/urns/crates all respawn super fast. I ran around the last area before going to Tam, and looted over and over, have 10 stacks of lock picks and a bunch of random crafting and food things. So I'd imagine you could find a sword somewhere for free.

I received an email with a survey which I dutifully filled out so I could brown-nose more beta access. Was sort of a weird survey though since many of the questions didn't really apply to the stress test (forming a guild, etc). I assume it was a fairly generic survey they keep using.

Anyway, check your email if you participated.
