I'm on... Diabolos maybe?

These characters get wiped before the open beta anyway, right? And then the Phase 4 characters carry over? I think there's some Zam people rolling on Ultros for launch. I don't know who, because I don't know who's who with real names from Facebook. Smiley: lol

Yes, and you still get 25% off using GMG25-BAWQB-8UQWG

So you can get the regular version for 22.50 or the CE for 37.50 (just has a couple extra in game items.)

Yeah, I'm probably going to grab it as well. I've only reviewed Archer and Thaumaturge so far. The first is fun, the second was confusing (having no idea what the buffs did, or how to read that info on the PS3 version).

What are the CE items? Anything good?

I don't know if I'm going to keep playing this weekend or next. I've decided to buy it and I'm not sure that I really want to do too much content that I'll just be re-doing in Phase 4.

I've played a few hours, and so far it's not bad. I don't know if I'll keep playing once it goes live or not. I'm currently on Midgardsormr, but that can change since nothing matters until phase 4. I'll have to play a bit more to see what the rest of the world is like before I can decide. Right now I've got a level 7 Lancer in Gridania. I like the feel of the city, and the graphics are great. I could go for a bit more in the way of lore, but I suppose that will come in time.

I do like the sheer number of NPCs you can chat with. That was one of my biggest gripes with SWTOR and, to a lesser extent, GW2. They had such vibrant worlds and strong story bases, but you could barely interact with anyone who wasn't a quest giver.

Now, it seems like you can interact with a majority of NPCs. And if not a majority, a substantial minority.

I'll probably play a little more, more to get my typical launch habits out of the way than anything else. It tends to take me a while to settle on a main, until I know what class I like, race I like, etc.

I figure getting at least a base of experience with each class, race, and city will help make the actual launch more efficient for me.

Instanced party fight for the level 20-22 Story Quest (a bit after the 3 city dungeons) is really fun. Things are well balanced. I won't spoil the name of the boss, but I'm sure it's spoiled all over the shout channels with the "LFG <XXX> Fight". It's nice that you can progress through the story and don't have to worry about traversing a whole zone or two without aggro like in FFXI. Most of the story events are solo.

Oh, and if you hadn't noticed, Square Enix went ahead and put scantily clad cat girl dancers in some of the cities and towns for us, along with audiences cheering them on, so people didn't have to waste their time creating catgirls, stripping them down, and dancing.

I have no idea what I want to make for launch. I don't know how likely I am to level more than one character, unless there are some race-specific storylines (like in GW2). I do like the cat girl and elf females, but I'll probably end up making a plain Jane human female.

I was really disappointed at the lack of a decent selection of beards for human males. Smiley: frown

Honestly I couldnt figure out why you cant change marking on the cat people. it seems kind of weird. Also other then a chin scruff they lack any sort of beards/goatee ohh and almost all their hairstyles are beiber cuts.

I think I may be coming a tad jaded to Jpop hair styles

Yeah, what's with this recent trend of disappointing beard options in games? I don't approve.

That said, I'm looking at the patch notes now, and it says character creation options will be expanded/adjusted following phase 4.

GW2 had this problem, too. And WoW has never had good beards, except for gnomes.

TOR is the only game that actually bothered giving you some quality full beard options. And, hell, they had tons of other facial options as well. At the very least, I hope they add them later, with tailor NPCs or something.

I like the take on the cities, so far. Ul'dah is probably my least favorite, but not by any huge margin. Limsa Lomisa and Gridania are fairly close.

I'm guessing the Arcanist Guild will be in LL, since right now they only have one main class option to start there. The other two cities both have three options, and each has a DoM (Lancer/Archer/Conjurer for Gridania, Pugilist/Gladiator/Thaumaturge for Ul'dah). LL just has the Marauder right now.

I'm also guessing they'll either be revealing another Disciple of the Hand at the next major event (QuakeCon?) or they'll be starting the first expansion class in LL.

I'm guessing it'll be in an expansion, and I'm guessing it'll be Thief (or similar), with the additional introduction of the Corsair job.

As of right now, I'll probably start Arcanist.

Limsa doesn't have it's Disciple of the Field class yet, does it? I assume it will be fishing?

Gridania has Bontany
Ul'dah has Mining

I've already accepted that fate from GW2 dailies. Whenever I was focused on a task, they were everywhere. Whenever I needed them for my daily quest, I couldn't find a single one nearby.

They're the sorts of events that are best considered random bonuses, not something you seek. I don't know if there's a reason you WOULD be actively seeking them in FFXIV (like daily quests, or particular bonuses). But that's my take on it.

Oh, something worth noting (because it isn't at ALL clear from the character creation screen), is that there might be multiple pages of creation options. Specifically, hair styles. Try to scroll to the right from the bottom-most style, and you might have more options.

Idk I got to 9 and Im out of quests :s I found one quest I couldnt complete so it may be causeing an entire chain to break (Some quest where i have to emote 4 workers I can only find 2 and according to the quest ring the other 2 should be there but arent.) I just kind of logged out I dont have the time to quest and like you said fates never show up when you want. And the fates areound me were all the same level if not higher and I died a few times and just got pissed and logged off. I was on a Pugulist, I still want to buy7 the game but when I know the character is going to be reset F-it Ill wait, why spend a ton of time into something to be deleted.

Once you progress through the story and join one of the three nations "Grand Companies" FATEs are a good source of the currency used to buy gear and stuff from the company store. Daily gathering missions give you 5-100 depending on what item you turn in. FATEs give you 50-200 for the level 10-15 ones.

Edit:
I just reached the end of the main story line available during Beta. The game announced it to me and thanked me for playing, told me to continue enjoying the Beta.

My general strategy with betas is to spend my time paying attention to all the things I wouldn't really care about during typical play. Well, not that I wouldn't care, but they're the things I'm less likely to need fresh to enjoy things.

Things like getting a basic, working knowledge of the maps. I'm fairly comfortable with Gridania at this point, at least to the degree I feel I'll need it in the first 10 or so levels.

I'm trying to figure out how the class mechanics work, since that's not clear. But now I know, for instance, that Marauder "combo bonuses" are created by using the combo skill after the previous skill. Sure, that wouldn't have taken much to figure out on launch day, but knowing it already is just nicer. It also gives me knowledge I can pass on to others when the game does launch, and make their lives easier.

Stuff like that. Focusing on learning how to play the game let's me spend my launch time actually focusing on playing/enjoying the game. And as long as I'm having fun in the beta, I don't care.
