As of P4, they were freely tradeable. I'd be happy to do the same for you, if you intend to craft at all.

They buffed them to +8 CP, so they seem like they'll be hugely useful for a decent chunk of crafting levels. In P3, the first upgrade to that would be level 19 for CP+6. Dunno if they buffed that one or not. But, either way, it's a pretty awesome buff to crafting. And if you're going to be able to get +16 CP for every craft before level 20, that's pretty huge...

It's a resource that is consumed to use crafting abilities (other resource is durability) which can boost your success rates for crafting and HQ yields. 8 CP is already a pretty huge buff, and 16 is awesome.

Looks like the client patch is up. I logged into the client just to check, and it said "checking final fantasy xiv" and is now downloading a 1038.90MB ffxiv patch.

I'm Balick Degare. Decided to start as a Conjurer. That way, when I hit the point where I can level other classes, I already have the best soloing cross class skills available.

[EDIT]

Made a LS on Ultros (TINFS). You can pst me, Spoon, or Tirith for an invite.

[EDIT2]

Maintenance until 11 PDT (2 EST).

I literally JUST zoned into a sanctuary when I got kicked. So woo hoo.

Instances are still broken for a lot of people, me among them. There is going to be another emergency maintenance once they have it sorted. Until then, I suppose I'm stuck doing leves or working on lower level stuff since I can't progress in the story right now.

They were working for about 30, maybe 45 minutes after the maintenance. At least I was able to get the level 15 main story quest done and my level 10 job quest. So I can explore and get classes and professions unlocked.

They broke just as I was trying to do a story quest, unfortunately. I've done all the other quests in the area, and I'm one mob group away from finishing my hunting log. Smiley: lol

Also, are stat allocations for a class permanent?

I think I remember seeing an item that resets your stats available at the Grand Company stores. And the stats are only for the job you earn them in (boosting GLD VIT won't effect your THM or CON's bonus attributes).

The problem is that, while roles are limited now, they won't stay that way.

For instance, if you're leveling an Arcanist, what do you spec into?

Int for Summoner, Mnd for Scholar. As of right now, stat allocations are based on class, not job. So that's X points you can't cross-spec.

Cleric Stance makes speccing Mnd sound like the way to go. But that means you need to build for Mnd, and if all the summoner gear is +int you get screwed.

I think the total bonus attributes are minor in the grand scheme of things though.

And I'm still pretty sure I saw a respec item in the Grand Company store (can't check though, cause I still haven't done the dungeons).

Isn't Summoner ACN/THM? You won't be able to use Cleric Stance as SMN, or do I misunderstand how jobs work?

It seems I misunderstood how they worked, though Cleric Stance does say CNJ SCH WHM, so I don't think SMN will be able to use it anyway.

It still gets some Conjurer abilities, I think. CS just doesn't happen to be one of them.

I totally misunderstood jobs. I thought you only got abilities from your main class and the one subclass, but I guess you get two subclasses. So for PLD, I'll have to level MRD as well. Which is cool, because MRD does get some good sh*t.

And man, the jobs just daisychain around, so I either have to level EVERYTHING or I'll be inefficient at some point, though I'm sure you can get a class to cap without specializing in a job, making use of extra class abilities.

Well, remember that a job is an optional specialization, and that they're meant to de-emphasize cross-class skills in general. Also, because they're specializations, they are meant to be more self-contained than classes, and less reliant on cross-class skills in general.

So take Pld.

Pld can slot Cure (Obvious effect), Protect (Obvious effect), Raise (Obvious effect), and Stoneskin (10% damage reduction) from Conjurer. Then from Marauder, it can slot Foresight (+20% Defense), Skull Sunder (+enmity attack), Fracture (+enmity and DoT), Bloodbath (25% of damage dealt to health, 15s, 90s cd), Mercy Stroke (High Potency Attack).

Realistically, you won't need Conjurer above 34 or Marauder above level 26 to get full effectiveness of the Pld. And you have everything you need from Conj at level 12, so you're already over-leveling it to unlock Paladin.

You have 5 abilities. The sad reality of the Pld in this game is that you probably won't want to take Cure. Interrupted spells don't give you enmity, and low-healing spells don't give much either. You're not really the AoE tank, anyway.

You're probably going to slot Foresight, Fracture or Skull Sunder, Blood Bath, and Mercy Stroke. Then you'll either take the other offensive Marauder ability (of Skull Sunder or Blood Bath) or maybe Raise/Cure.

You don't need to bring Protect or Stoneskin, as your Sch or Whm will have them. You don't really need Cure, because it's fairly low threat, with a high chance to be interrupted, and negligible healing.

Raise is nice, in case your healer bites it and everyone else is in a Job and, therefore, cannot slot it.

But otherwise, at least 4 of those slots are going to Marauder abilities. +20% Defense is a no-brainer. Blood Bath, too. 15 seconds to self heal for 25% of your damage? Nice, particularly if that healing supplies enmity. Mercy Stroke, Fracture, and Skull Sunder will come down to TC.

Skull Sunder is 60 TP for a 100 Potency attack with increased enmity.
Fracture is 70 TP for a 100 Potency attack with increased enmity that inflicts a 20 potency, 18 second DoT.
Mercy Stroke is a 200 Potency attack with no TP cost, a 90 second CD, and can only be used if the target is under 20% health. But if it kills the target, you get 20% life back.

So, assuming you want Mercy Stroke, you need Marauder at 26 and Conj at 15. If you don't want Mercy Stroke, you only need Marauder at 8.

8 and 12 aren't really much to ask, to have access to all but 2 of your possible abilities.

Yeah I guess I hadn't looked into it too much. I'd still want to get to 34 and 26 anyway, since the CNJ abilities will be useful in solo situations. That's pretty sad that Cure won't be very useful.

I'm hoping they add something to change that. Maybe they're relying on artifact armor or something? Right now it's a compound problem of getting interrupted and it not being too effective. If they made Pld casting immune to attack-based interrupts, then it would probably go a long way towards closing that gap.

It's possible Whms can only maintain one Stoneskin buff at a time. If that's the case, it would still be useful on a PLD. I don't know if Scholar can slot it, to be fair, so there might be reason for a Pld to take it.

I think they'll need to give Pld Esuna, tbh. That would probably be a big enough deal.
