Unless you were ordering a Collector's Edition, in which case you don't want to cancel that order cause it's sold out everywhere

Played for about 45 mins this morning, but I have to start working soon. Made an Arcanist. Didn't actually get to any combat.

So far, I don't quite understand Arcanist. They don't have the debuffing power I expected, have nearly no buffs, have a heal and a rez, and are otherwise unaspected damage.

I don't see them putting out the kind of damage that would really make sense to label them damage dealers. But I also don't see them having sufficient healing capability (basically one 400 potency healing spell and a 90s cd shield) to act as healers. I think the point of the class is their versatility. Unaspected damage, some solid debuffs (Disease - causes heavy and cuts healing potential; at high levels, blind), and the ability to switch their pet between a damaging caster (lower damage in general, but obviously it supplements the Summoner) or a Tank. Dunno if there's a third?

I love games with Support classes. I'm just not sure how that's meant to work with the Duty Finder. I assume they're just meant to replace a DD? In FFXI, Bards could replace any role, depending on your party makeup and skill levels.

Also, some fog rolled in while I was in LL. Was pretty cool.

How long until you're due in? I feel like the client is actually shockingly small.

I have an hour and a half. I'm at 2.6GB/7.3GB downloaded. My download speed is 1.58MB/s. I might be able to make a character before work. Smiley: lol What server did you end up going with? Ultros?

Yeah, I didn't actually take the time to really design my character though.

Well, I took the time to create A character, but then the server freaked out when I tried to actually register it. Had to restart the client, and then just loaded up some random Lalafel I made in the benchmark.

I still can't decide on my race. It's Hyur or Lalafell. Lalafell have the advantage of getting to feel like they run super fast, and (when playing as an Arcanist) they get to summon things much larger than them. But Hyur get larger pieces of armor, which makes getting new gear more exciting, since you actually see the change.

Also, friendly reminder that choosing "Fortune" gets you a +8 CP ring that you can apparently send to another character, so you can equip two, which is a big boost to your crafting capabilities.

I have a Hyur Midlander I made on my benchmark that I'll be using. It ended up being between Hyur and Miqo'te, but with that survey on reddit showing the massive amount of catpeople, I went with Hyur. I really do like the Elezen, but in the end, they're just too tall for my liking.

My problem with the Hyur is that I want some middleground in appearance between the Highlanders and the Midlanders. I don't like the baby faces of the Midlanders, but I don't want to be Hulking McHulk, either.

This could be solved with some decent beards, goddammit!

Right?

I feel like TOR is the only MMO (and hell, one of the few RPGs in general) that actually gives the option for a decent full beard.

Everyone else seems to offer only some combination of douchebag beard, neck beard, and wizened old man who lives in the hills.

Yet every game includes Mustaches. NO ONE LIKES MUSTACHES.

[EDIT]

Relevant.

I was mad that in GW2, I couldn't make a normal-looking human engineer with a sweet engineer beard.

Even the Highlander beards are too limited.

I want a Beard Expansion Pack.

Really, even your basic mustache and your basic beard, with the ability to have both be on your character, and settings of stubble, medium, and long. That's all I'm asking for.

The standard should be the Saint's Row character creator. After messing with that gem I feel everything else is just crap.

Well, I think for a MMO, it has to be pared down a bit from that, but yeah.

SE's statement on the limited options was specifically so that they could reduce the load on lower end systems, as part of their bid to make the game more accessible. So you take the bad with the good, I guess.

I still want just one decent beard option. ONE. It's not too much to ask.

Seems like instead of limiting options, they could have grouped them. And in the graphics and details settings of the game, the lower the details, the higher up the grouping trees things became. High detail = everything is divided out, lots of differences, etc. Low detail = move up the trees, items are grouped together under one generic lump, etc. The only time someone on a low spec system see the true detail would be during character creation, or on their own character.

I'm guessing it has to do with the diversity of systems, and the diversity of options players care about.

Some people are obsessed with shadows. It's not that I don't understand why they're really nice to have, but they're the first thing I turn off when trying to improve my performance.

Other people don't give a crap about foliage, but demand nice trees. I'm way more likely to completely disable grass for nice trees than I am to get half-assed grass and trees.

Or maybe people rarely notice trees, but they notice having a ton of grasses and plants and flowers around them.

Plus, each of these needs a different rendering point. A tree popping into existence is much more jarring than a flower. And seeing no trees on the horizon is far more problematic than no bushes, etc.

Plus, it requires a lot more work to group every single one of those objects.

Yeah, I usually like to be able to have my character have a decent shadow, and then blob shadows for everything else. Or blob shadows for everything including my character. It doesn't break my immersion.

Anyone else notice they lowered the first 'page' of Hunters Book down to 3 of everything Instead of 6? I was messing around and noticed that I was finishing faster then I normally do.

Also What server are we all going to or is it crapshot?

I made a Gladiator on Ultros, but all I did was load my character appearance and talk to the first dude, so I'm not tied to it. I don't really want to go to a Legacy server, and I'm definitely not going to Gilgamesh.

Anyone run into a "Carlos Danger" yet?

I've got a Lancer on Ultros, name's Turin Alexander. I will say that these voice actors kind of suck, the game was better off silent.
