Also I found this kind of funny. Apparently the biggest DRM douche in the biz doesn't support Microsofts position on Used games either.

I didn't see it covered yet, but EA is saying they did not push for any console enforced DRM.
Not like someone didn't just post this at all... Smiley: oyvey

...anyway, my criticism:
I only see that it says EA did not lobby for the policies. That is, Microsoft considered them or designed around it, then asked developers/publishers if they would support such a system. If EA had been the one to lobby, then Microsoft would be implementing the policies out of demand from EA and the like.

I don't know Moore's track record, but he only claims that he, himself, is against used game policies. This means nothing about EA, which as you've said, has been pretty much anti-used games so far.

Yes and no, Ubisoft always wanted the Always online check type DRM which is one of the worst, EA didnt care what kind it was as long as they felt it stopped piracy, leading up to the eventual Online Pass system and Simcity 5

From what I heard they're not paying them to not show the games, but if the game is cross-platform to not mention that fact at all and just mention the Xbone version.

So we might be under the impression that a number of XBone games are exclusives, and they aren't? Wow... That certainly doesn't help them.

Also, regarding the 3DS, I have difficulty justifying the purchase. Nintendo's apple-esque approach to its handhelds annoys me, and I can't handle the 3D feature. I know it's not required, but it just seems crazy to purchase a 3DS when the only real difference is that its a DS that handles 3D. I seriously doubt that any 3DS game, sans the 3D stuff, couldn't actually be played just fine on the DS.

So it just feels like being forced to purchase something for no good reason...

Granted, I want the Fire Emblem game. And Pokemon XY. I imagine I'll live, though.

Oh yeah, I forgot that came out. I've mostly disregarded anything not awesome enough to get the 3DS. I'll file it under the list, though. Maybe some day it'll expand to be large enough that I'll just bite the bullet.

Just a heads up, that article cites the link I posted in the OP as the source. Take from that what you will.

I don't use the 3D feature. I can't hate 3D and it makes me nauseous so leave it off all the time. That said, it's still a good system with some good games and more on the way. It can also play DS games and has some older stuff available for cheap in the store. It's also more powerful than a DS. I doubt the DS could have handled Kingdom Hearts or Tales of the Abyss.

Then again my love of the 3DS may also be partly because I travel a lot so a good handheld system is important to me. Who knows?

Would replacing the HD in one of these (ps4 or xbox) with an SSD be crazy awesome, or would it not work as great as I expect?

edit: not sure if xbox hd can be easily replaced, i know ps4 can.

You cant on an Xbox 360 Proprietary only, For PS3 you would see a small gain in install/delete speed and a tad on loading but it was using Sata 1 at the time.
As for the PS4 maybe , It depends on what Sata they use and how the system itself works with the HDD It could be great or not. Also the XBoner aslo has proprietary HDD , the PS4 again does not.

I don't think it made that big of a difference in the PS3. And the Xbox One does not have a user modifiable hard drive.

Reason I ask is that I just watched a Forza 5 live gameplay video and it had a 30 second load time for the race. That's about the same as last gen and I guess I expected a faster loading time out of this generation.

An SSD would speed up the loading time when entering a new areas or starting a new level, but a lot more will depend on what type of event you were watching. The effect will be much more noticeable in Single Player. Multiplayer/Online is going to be more limited by communication rather than HDD reads/writes.

Also, since the new consoles have 8 GB of RAM, games might have a lot more data to read and load into memory before you can start playing. An SSD will reduce this a lot, but again, the SATA connection also will play a role.

Yeah I never use 3D. To me, 3D wasn't a selling point, being able to play new games (and the fact that a new 3DS is only like 25 bucks more expensive than a DS) was the selling point.

3DS games are definitely of higher graphic fidelity than DS games. They couldn't be played on a DS (except for maybe Eritrean Odyssey IV? Maybe?) Again, they aren't Vita quality, but they noticeably better in terms of graphics than DS.

Well, there's always a chance I'll get it when XY comes out, particularly if there's a sale.

But unless I start commuting via public transport, there just isn't much reason to get one. I drive 3-4 hours a day now, and I barely have time to play any of the massive backlog of games I have now...

I've been watching Gametrailers for my E3 coverage. It's where I watched the Monday conferences, and yesterday I tuned in again to http://www.gametrailers.com/netstorage/e3/live.html and was able to watch a recorded five hour block of interviews, trailers, etc from earlier in the day. But today I don't get to set it to a live (recorded, since I couldn't watch it actually live) all day coverage and listen to it in the background as I do other stuff, cause apparently there isn't anything but short trailers and snippet videos?
