That's a fun card. I like seeing it pop up, and the power chord cards can be decent.

I'd like to see more game mode options. Keep Ranked the way it is, but let Casual players pick things like "no legendaries" or just implement a Custom Game mode where you can set a match up from a slew of options and someone else can pick your game and play against you. "Sit and Go" style tournaments would be cool, too. Apparently they are going to be working on a 2v2 game mode, which sounds pretty cool.

It is really annoying when you jump onto a new level 0 hero and they pair you against someone who has a more advanced deck. I get that they're looking at rankings to pair people, but deck really needs to be taken into account. Some kind of formula to measure deviation from standard card options. weighted against the rest.

I know you can level up in practice mode to get more class cards, but it's just less fun, since you can't do quests there.

Yeah, spitballing here, but why not assign cards hidden values based on rarity.

Uncommon = 0
Common = 1
Rare = 2
Epic = 3
Legendary = 5

Match based on the total value of a deck with some consideration for total hero levels.

Also, Trump (http://www.twitch.tv/trumpsc) is currently working on a Free-to-Play Warlock. He's currently just going through the initial quests, but should be playing against other people soon enough. It's worthwhile to check out sometime. He's good about explaining his thought process, and even if he gets a legendary in a deck he won't be using it, so it's reassuring to see someone play well without them. He ran a F2P Mage and Shaman to Legendary in the test season.

Oh, and he doesn't play any music which I like because then I can put my own music on instead of being forced to listen to some sh*tty wubstep or whatever some other streamers play.

Also, also, it's worth checking out the unique quest list. I didn't realize that beating all the Expert AI would give 100 gold. I can probably get a couple decks from quests I haven't done on that list.

In Hearthstone I got some good wins and close games with my Hunter deck; though Druid still beats it and there seem to be lots of people playing Druid decks - must be the op flavor of the day. I next made a Shaman deck - first game got a win against a Druid, but then lost a bunch with it.

I think I'm going to try Warlock next.

I got up to Rank 12 with my Paladin deck the other night, and was really excited about it. Then on Sunday, I think I only won a single game with it and lost a bunch, went on tilt, lost a bunch more, and fell back down to 16. I'm back up to 15 but now I need to figure out what to fix in my deck. Trying Rogue out for a little while in the meantime.

Still doing pretty mediocre at Arena. My best run was 7 wins, but a good run for me at the moment is 5, with typical runs coming in the 2-3 win range.

He's a good player but having watched him play several decks the tactic basically always plays out to kill your opponents creatures as efficiently as possible then kill him with either one big combo or whatever you have left over after killing his stuff. It gets pretty boring after a few games.

Edit: also the whole Hearthstone and selling my magic cards got me to watching Magic on twitch on weekends. It's a very, very good thing I have no easy access to a store or place to play magic or I'd be several hundred dollars back into the game in no time.

I've only done two arenas. I think I picked pretty bad cards the second time so my totals were three wins then two wins. Then I was out of gold. I'm still out of gold.

How do I get more gold?

Keeping sufficient cards in my hand to even be able to use up my mana seems to be my biggest challenge in Arena.

Yeah, his big thing is about getting "value" for his cards, on the turn they're played. His personal winrate is something like 70% so I mean, he's very good at it, and he's ranked to legendary multiple times with these F2P decks. I do prefer to watch him when he's playing Arena, to see how he builds decks for various heroes.

I also like MaSsan, who is at least a bit more entertaining. Amaz is pretty good, too, and is super enthusiastic. I stay away from overly negative streamers. I tried watching Reynad, but he spent the whole time complaining, which was just annoying. I go on tilt and get angry at my own games enough that I don't need to watch someone else do it.

Your daily quests, and then you get 10 gold per every 3 wins in Casual or Ranked play (up to 100 gold per day). Usually in Arena I'll get at least 25 gold back at the end, plus the card pack. So it costs me a little more than just buying the pack with gold but I really like Arena so it's worth it.

A lot of the top-level Arena players just basically get infinite gold out of it because they can consistently hit 8+ wins. They can get more than enough gold for a new run, plus the daily quests and other gold income. I aim to earn enough gold for a single Arena run every day.

Getting value with your cards is what you should be doing. In the end the way you win is by getting an advantage in cards either by drawing lots more and trading 1 for 1 or by trading 1 of yours vs multiple of theirs. And with mana constrictions drawing lots isn't terrbly helpful since you can't exploit it as much so it basically comes down to illing off as many of the opponents cards with as few of yours as possible over the game as a whole.

I'm too used to Magic though so the comparisons pop into my head all he time and while card advantage is huge in the slower Magic formats it's not that important anymore when lots of decks can score a kill by turn 4 like in the faster formats and things start revolving more about countermagic and trickery.

Magic in Hearthstone has a more direct effect. They're actually sort of like WoW's CDs. Sometimes you stack 'em (a la Bloodlust), and sometimes you save them for a pinpoint effect (think Antimagic Zone).

The effects with high synergy typically come directly from minions. Which isn't completely different from MTG, but there's less in-between with the two card types.

You should check out this. Because the player on the right is playing a deck that sows just how cool MtG can be even if I would never ever even consider thinking about playing the deck because it's so ridiculously difficult to do everything right and kill but what it basically does is get ~ 60 mana on turn 4 to make his opponent draw more cards than there are in his deck which in MtG is an instant loss.

I think I kind of misrepresented his playstyle. It's not necessarily that you should be getting value out of your cards, but he prefers cards that you can get value for on the first turn they're able to be played. So, he tends to dislike cards where say it's a 2 mana cost card, but you have to wait until Turn 8 to pair it with a big minion to get value out of it.

I think I need to work more early game card draw into my Paladin deck. Right now, I'm pretty much not drawing extra cards until Turn 8+ when I can use Lay on Hands. I tried a Gadgetstan Auctioneer for mid-game draw potential, but it doesn't seem to really be working out. Maybe I can incorporate some Loot Hoarders into the deck.

Firming up my early game shot my win ratio way up. Hearthstone really isn't balanced to last into late game right now. Anyone who can't see victory a stone's throw away saves their insta-kill cards for the big baddies, and you can't load your deck with too many of them without really weakening your early game. Then you add in mind control and other card stealing mechanics, and add in the fact that you'd need to turtle your way up to late game just to use those cards, and it's not so awesome.

Yeah, a lot of it has to do with heroes having only 30 health, I think.

Actually, Loot Hoarders are a good idea for my deck anyway, as they can work with Redemption too, though using Redemption with them is not ideal. Maybe take out some of my late-game heavy hitters for mid-game value.

Also, I swear every Druid I've faced over the past two days has gone second and thrown out a Chillwind Yeti on turn 1. God damn, I haven't pulled any answers out of my deck yet! Smiley: mad

Lightspawn + cards that give + health + 2 of those goddamn "double health" spells makes for a really, really bullsh*t Priest combo really early in the game when you have yet to draw a kill spell (or Hex, because you're stupid enough to be playing a Shaman).

[EDIT]

THIS MAGE HAS NOTHING BUT SPELLS AND TAUNTS AND IT'S MAKING ME SO MAD.

Could they have possibly expected to win with this deck? Because all they've managed is to make their death as drawn out as possible.

And then they didn't even let me land the killing blow. They gave up right before it.

I hate them with a burning passion.

2 things.

1. I freaking hate shaman.
2. If the freaking fuse appears 3 times in one game because you're taking so long, you're an @#%^.

[EDIT]
Okay, 3 things.
3. There needs to be a visible turn timer.

At least there's no 15+ minute turns like the high tide deck I linked above. Then again a lot happens with the high tide deck so it's at least interesting to watch.

Animations need to be worked on, and something has to be done to limit their impact on the amount of time you have to make a turn. A Warrior with that card where when a friendly minion or whatever takes damage, gain 1 Armor can have animations lasting for 20-30 seconds if they had a full board and you cleared it. I had a Warrior have that one and another card that gave an on-damage proc. I had to use two Consecrates to clear his board, and the animations took forever. I get wanting to visually indicate each card effect proc, but there should be an option for simplified animations or something where it'll show the animation once and just apply the correct number of effects. So, show the little glowy ******** once and apply the 8 armor or so instead of showing me 8 animations for 1 armor each.

Shaman is ********* I play it, never get the totems I want. I play against it, miracle ******** perfect totem calls all the time. Confirmation bias, HO!

No, but really. Yesterday I got the same +spell damage totem three times in a row, and I literally didn't have a single card in my deck it would help. But ANY of the other totems would have been useful.

Though I have to say the Shaman has a balance issue with the fact that the healing totem is way more powerful than the others.

Renamed my awesome Paladin deck to "PalaWIN". Lost every game since renaming it. Made a new Paladin deck called "Probably Bad". I'm 4-0 in Ranked with it so far. Smiley: lol Of course, that might also be due to dropping back down to 16. Smiley: laugh

I think this falls along the line of how you know a guy in a random dungeon group named "Leetrouge" is probably bad. People saw PalaWIN and assumed you suck so they were relaxed and at an advantage. Smiley: nod

Nah, nobody else sees your deck names. Smiley: lol

When you are in the deck-building mode, click the text where it says "Custom Paladin" under the hero portrait on the right hand side of the screen, if I'm remembering right.

Edit: Yeah, when you're on the screen where you can actually add/remove cards from your deck, click the deck name in the top right corner of the screen, and you can change it.

I've started just deleting decks every couple of days, and rebuilding on my next play session. It helps to force me to consider each card in the deck I'm trying to play, and occasionally making improvements.
