I'm actually looking forward to Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm since they're not implementing the mechanics I dislike about the MOBAs I've tried out.
Quote:
Notably, Heroes of the Storm will feature shared experience, no last-hitting, no item purchasing, and all skills unlocked at the start of a match.
Link.

Of course, that article is pointing out that Blizzard is not calling it a MOBA, instead labeling it a "hero brawler". I think they need a catchier name for that, but I like the idea in theory. We'll see how well its implemented.

So you just get stats as you level?

That sounds pretty boring to be honest.

Well, from what I've read (having never played competitively), LoL and DOTA2 matches are typically around the 40-60 minute mark? Heroes is aiming to have matches around 20 minutes in length. I think they want their focus to be on combat from the outset rather than an extended farming period. But like I said, my MOBA experience isn't extensive at all.

It's not that different from WoW's BGs. When you're equally skilled, they can take a long time. But the bigger the skill/performance gap, the faster the match.

Sorry 'bout that.

But yeah, WSG was always the best BG...

AB > WSG. Mostly because WSG had those horrible turtling matches and AB always had action and something to do.

I have been playing City of Steam. A nice, browser-based F2P MMO set in the world of Steampunk.

It uses the Unity 3D engine to provide AAA-quality graphics in your browser.

AB was fun for sure. Mostly I didn't like care for Alterac Valley (I never did play it during its heyday), Strand of the Ancients, or Isle of Conquest.

Also, I really liked Huttball in SWTOR.

Probably because those three were absolutely horrible and retarded. Strand you could tell within 2 or 3 minutes who would win 999/1000 times and then you just had to wait out the rest and the other two were PvE and lolvehicle **********

AB is a lot of fun, if you don't have too many idiots in the group. But it was WAY more painful than WSG with idiots.

I liked WSG because either I was in the combat, or I was sleuthing my way to stealth caps. Smiley: grin

And yeah, Huttball was a lot of fun.

WSG with idiots meant no action, just waiting and a few people on each side killing themselves over and over. Especially in the days before time limits, nothing is quite as painful as a 2 hour WSG in which virtually nothing happens.

What's a flag? Ima solo farm kills in the middle! Go team.

I liked AB cuz you got good small scale action often times instead of lol 5 v 1.

Usually, when there were that many idiots in the game, stealth caps were easy enough.

And it's more popular than LoL? How have I not heard about this?

I'm confused.

No it's not more popular then LoL, its in Open beta til March 25. It has had a really long open beta period becuase the company making the game is small. But its gaining popularity and I think it has around 4 million subs. They just partnered with Tencent so the game will probably get mildly popular.

Like I said its a 3rd person MOBA, every ability is a skill shot and its a bit faster paced then traditional mobas. If your a fan of FPS its a bit easier to get into than LoL/DotA2. Also some of the mechanics are easier to learn, like items have 3 levels each but don't combine to make other items like the other 2 games. It's F2P but if you like the game before open beta ends you can purchase the "God pack" which unlocks all the god that are released in Beta (which is at like 47 atm).

Right now they release a new god every 2-3 weeks, after beta ends they say probably about once a month. They do a pretty good job of making sure power creep isnt an issue for new gods. There is a built in game viewer/caster mode and they host a small tournament every Saturday for EU and Sunday for NA.

There are 4(6) game types. Conquest(and Conquest League aka rated), normal MOBA map. Assault, a copy of ARAM from LoL. Arena, its a big round arena, you have creeps you want to get into the other teams portal, you gain points for killing opposing gods and creeps, it's pretty much nothing but constant team fights. Lastly is 3v3 Joust, it's 3 v 3 in a single lane map with a jungle on each side, each side has 2 towers and a base. There were 2 more modes, 1v1 Joust and Domination, but they took them out because lack of interest. Domination was a square map with 3 towers to capture and hold for points first team to lose all their points (starts at 500) loses.

I remember, I think, playing that quite some time ago. If I remember right it was using a model similar to Spiral Knights. Limit the amount you can play unless you buy stuff to refill your "energy" or what every they were calling it.

I'm not really a fan of that F2P model.

(I could be wrong, maybe I'm thinking of another game, but I'm pretty sure this is the one I'm thinking of).

I played FFXIV all weekend. It's MUCH better post-2.1 than it was before. Dungeons/leves actually give real exp, and they slightly nerfed Fates (mostly by bug fixing and making them take slightly longer to complete). Haven't done any of the 2.1 content, but that was a huge quality-of-life improvement.

I distinctly remember one other game making me sick to my stomach and giving me a head ache - it had orcs in it. Now another one did the same this weekend.

I twice sat down to play Sanctum 2 (was free on steam for the weekend). Both times I had to get up and walk away from my computer after only about 10mins. I thought I was going to puke.

I think it's close-up 1st-person view and a camera that swings around easily, freely and frequently that gets to me. I played Sanctum (the first) without any problem.

Anyone else had game-play that their body didn't agree with?

I didn't do anything to try and fix it at all with this particular game, though a birds-eye-view would probably have helped.

It only dawned on me with this game that there was a pattern emerging with different types of games and my stomach's ability to tolerate them.

Not sure if this is an old age thing or what.

I might have to take up knitting.

Actually, I think I quit playing Sanctum pretty quickly for that reason. It was just a really unpleasant camera.

That's one of the same problems the Occulus Rift is trying to overcome. The uncanny valley of nausea that comes from input to frame delay. I did have a similar experience this weekend finishing SR IV. Not really sick to my stomach but getting extremely annoyed by the over used digitizing effect by the end. Between my fire ball power causing non stop explosions and that effect I was ready to be done with it by the time I finished.

I should have modded it out but /shrug was close to finished anyway.

Overall for SR IV: It was funish, some of the powers were cool. I mostly went back to dual alien smg's and fire/ice blast for anything that did not force me to use something else. Side quests for loyalty and power unlocks got a bit tedious and grindy but I did them anyway. I don't really like that feeling, it's a fun drainer. The game even jokes about it at one point and says: Hey do some more repetitive side missions for me, we need to stretch the content.

Oh, your trolling me huh... super... thanks, I guess.
