Picked up Brothers during the Steam sales. Completed that game. Worth the money. Only 3 hours but a good story. And the controls were pretty solid. Very little frustration.

Ending spoilers.
At the end, when the younger brother was going home by himself after the older brother died... he reaches the water, and can't swim. It's not until you use what used to be the older brother's controls that he is able to overcome his fear and then do everything else that the older brother did. The whole time you hear his voice, etc. Was a very good way to end it.

Just finished. My feelers are broke now... Smiley: frown

The only parts I did not like control wise were the ones where you have to hold both triggers for extended periods of time. I had to school myself not to deathgrip them. That helped a little.

And speaking of deathgrip, those bro's could so totally win Ninja Warrior. Cliffhanger obstacle? Pshh no problem.

Yay for something to do this weekend!

Beat GTA 5 with the obvious good ending. Dinking around on Rift but that game is such a drag. I don't see how people can play it for long periods of time. Been trying to play through FFXII. That is... going. Debating if I am going to get back into Witcher 2 (just got into Chapter 2) or Red Dead Redemption (a bit after the river raft part if it rings any bells).

I'm onto Shadow Warrior now. Which surprisingly does not suck. Especially at first. Swinging the katana is a real joy, very responsive, and the game is pretty graphics wise. There are humor and references but also a semi interesting story underlying it.

Some parts get slightly monotonous as there are mostly wave battle of many of the same mobs, and various greater mobs. But they give you new weapons and useful powers along the way to mix it up.

I've got about 16 hours in and suspect I am about 3/4 of the way done. But I think that will be just about right if I finish between now and 20 hours for the pacing of this type of game.

I started playing Neverwinter (also playable through Steam) this past weekend, and I'm enjoying the sh*t out of it so far. The graphics aren't fantastic, it's light on actual D&D elements, and apparently there's some glaring pay-to-win issues at the level cap, but the game has several things to recommend it. All content is F2P, it's solo-friendly, the combat and skill restrictions are more Diablo 3 than WoW, the main storylines are interesting (and voice acted!), the game introduces each gameplay element fairly well, most areas and dungeons are at least partially instanced, and the user-created content can be pretty neat (or filled with bugs).

The tradeskill process is also pretty unique. Raw materials can also be found while questing or dungeon crawling, so you don't have to ride around the countryside searching for material nodes or slaughtering wildlife. And instead of churning out 10 Copper Swords to advance to the next set of recipes, you have a certain number of slots (determined by character level, tradeskill level, etc.), and you assign tasks to each slot that take a certain time (10-20 minutes, with "overnight" tasks as well) to gain materials, make items, and gain experience. Therefore, you can level up your tradeskills while you're doing other things.

Overall, a fun experience that I would recommend to those that like both MMOs and dungeon crawlers, but dislike having 10 action bars full of various skills that make it impossible to find anything.

Ya it's a great ride to cap, but to do anything "End game" you'll spend more on the cash shop monthly than a WoW/XI/XIV sub costs. I do recommend at least trying it though, they did have some decent ideas. Just be warned then do maintenance EVERY day.

Yup it was fun to play, I got a solid month or so out of it and did not drop a dime. I quit after leveling up though as per usual for me these days.

Finished Brothers and... (spoiler)

If you're so inclined, I'm blogging about my playing through my backlog: one game a day, one letter of the alphabet at a time (game starting with A, one with B, etc). I hate to say "blogging" because that seems to imply more than it is, but I'm just writing a blurb about each game as I spend at least one hour on it. I'm up to letter G and putting out a new entry every 3-4 days.

You should make some polls and let the people choose which game you'll play from your library for each letter.

I picked up the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for PS3. I had played through the first two MGS games previously, and this was just an awesome deal since you get so many games for so little money. Though, I should have just bought it used. MGS isn't an HD update, so I'm better off playing it on a PSX emulator.

I thought about that except sometimes I have specific reasons for picking games or for avoiding other games. For instance, I want to at least try and hit games that were gifts and don't want too many games with high learning curves that eat up the entire hour.

Cool idea! Instead of playing any of my backlog this weekend after I finished Shadow Warrior I just indulged in many many more hours of Dark Souls. I'm in NG++ now almost to another plus. I have SL163 40 str 40 dex 40 vit 40 end and like 28ish Int and Faith...

I'm not really sure why I keep playing. My goal is 40 INT and 40 Faith as well with more attunment slots. But I mostly go back to my tried and true favorite weapons and equipment when anything gets rough on bosses. I have like pretty much everything in the game and multiple +15 and +5 chaos weapons. It's just a comfortable world for me to farm around and play in. /shrug

I salute you in that endeavor, lol.

Today I played Dark Souls from character creation through just reaching the Undead Parish. Got the Drake Sword, a full set of chainmail, heater shield. Need to farm a quick 1.4k souls for Heal, since I have my Faith up to 12 now.

Had 9 humanity which I lost on my first "real" death (as in, first time failing to recover my souls). That kinda hurt, since now I'll get lower drops.

The stupid poison rats are making this part super annoying, though. I really need to find a bonfire in the Parish area that lets me avoid them. It looks like there's one right past the gate that area lets out from (the ladder from the burg), but I haven't figured out how to open it yet.

I'm gonna go ahead and ask this - that big figure with the hammer looking thing in the church is probably going to murder me if I wander in there, right?

Bait the wyvern down with an arrow shot. When he lands run past him and use the bonfire in the room behind where he perches. Open the gate, waltz into the parish and no more poison rat under the bridge runs for you.

Also the big dude in the parish is not too bad. Be patient let him do his big slow attack and then circle around and stab at him. Also there is a bonfire to the right of there down that walkway with the stone arches. Andre can upgrade your weapons and is a very useful guy throughout the game. Oh and behind that big guy in the parish is a fire keeper soul. take the elavator in the parish on the left back down to the firelink shrine and use it to buff you estus flask to +1 the firekeeper is right down the stairs underneath the bonefire and she can hook you up. You can get it to +7 eventually.

Feel free to PM me or ask here for any other tips if you get stuck I have a pretty good feel for the game after 400 hours lol.

Metal Gear Rising reminds me a lot of Vanquish. Super stylistic, crazy set pieces, ridiculously cheesy dialog. Only thing is that I felt like everyone in Vanquish was kind of in on the joke. MGR sometimes seems to take itself slightly seriously. Really, really fun, though. If you pick it up, I'd highly recommend reading up on some play tips and playing the VR missions whenever they become available. It feels like a DMC/GoW/Bayonetta type hack'n'slash, but it doesn't really play that way at all. While you can unlock a dodge ability, the real skill is in mastering the parry system.

I jumped on the free trial of Torchlight II this weekend. I was enjoying myself - simple controls, lots of monsters, cheery hero - In fact I think she was skipping. I was just getting to the good stuff though, with a bit of difficulty when the free time ended.

TL2's on sale pretty regularly so you should be able to pick it up at a decent price in the semi-near future if you liked it.

Or, you know, go crazy and pay MSRP.

That's how it starts. Next thing you know, you're waiting in line at Gamestop at midnight in -12 degree weather waiting for the newest Halo or some such.

It was on sale after the free trail for ~$5. If I'm not willing to drop a fiver on a game, I guess I don't want it much. It might be a nice little game for a tablet.

So far, my win of the season was buying Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, an entertaining corridor style shooter set in the Old West with attractive cel shaded graphics, excellent voice acting, an entertaining story and fun gun play. It's not perfect -- I'm not a fan of the duel mechanic and people who hate how "consoles ruined games" will grind their teeth at the two-weapon limit but the good far outweighs the bad and I'm glad I dropped the five or six bucks on it.

The dog of the season was Remember Me, a dreary 3rd person action game marred by a plodding pace, clunky combat and terrible boss fights. The memory-changing mechanics aren't particularly fun and it's amazing how a game with this much hand-holding can still take so long to accomplish anything. The best I can say for it is that the graphics aren't bad and, if you set it to French language with English subtitles, you can pretend you're in some foreign futurist art film. That novelty only takes you so far, though.
