So how similar to the WoW thief is the GW2 thief? Because I tried multiple times to level up a thief in WoW and could never get one past level 5. I just really don't like the stealth play style. It's too slow for my tastes. Hell, even in Oblivion I only made a thief to do the Assassin's Guild quests.

Last night I finally looked into crafting. Wow. I am really impressed by what they did with it via the discoveries and stuff. Also reading that you could take a character from level 1 to 80 simply by leveling all of the crafting skills, that's pretty freaking cool.

All the GW2 stealth skills are a.) only for a few seconds and b.) combat skills. So no WoW-style wandering in stealth until you attack. There are certain stealthy-backstabby-bursty builds that can still mimic some of the WoW rogue style, but there are others that don't use stealth skills at all. The thief's slipperiness is really more about mobility than stealth. Their health is very low so it's really about getting hit as little as possible and there are a few ways to accomplish this, of which stealth is only one.

Charr male warrior (smash and laugh!)
Asura female engineer (explode **** and laugh!)
Human or Sylvari necro (bleed fools and laugh!)

That's max for me. Not planning on going through alt-itis again (f u 12 wow capped toons!)

For those of you not on the facebook group, get on it. =P

The facebook group is supposed to be for WoW players silly. I personally don't mind if people who are no longer playing WoW (like myself) want to join the group and use it as a way of connecting with each other, though.

I might have logged off of WoW for the the last time, got my archeology AQ mount finally on Monday and have no time to play between now and GW2 launch =)

A general Zam gamer group might be useful (simpler than the forums for some things for certain) but either way.

Also, fair warning: Server Guesting won't be in for launch. So if we want to play together, we'll need to pick the same server. I'm still considering Yakks Bend and Crystal Desert.
#33 Aug 22 2012 at 6:27 PM Rating: Good
Okay. What's the appeal of Yakks Bend? I was thinking about possibly going to Tarnished Coast as well, as I know of a kinky guild that is starting on that server. They'll probably be my main guild unless something better comes along. I'm not too picky though. I care more about being able to play with you, because you're fun. Smiley: grin I'm thinking I'm probably going to start out with either an Asuran Elementalist or a Sylvari Mesmer Saturday night.

I was on Yak's for the beta weekends/stress tests. Not a bad community from what I saw, but I heard that 4chan has picked that as their home server... so I'm looking elsewhere now Smiley: lol

Yak's Bend is where... a lot of people ended up going, online community wise. Including /v/, IIRC.

What's the PvP vs PVE server thing like? That usually splits most Alla guilds since some of us don't want to be molested while questing but like to play organized BG's, while others are like bring on the PvP any time anywhere etc.

Personally I am more of a PVE guy and I am getting more tempted to pick up this game every day even though I am currently way addicted to the Mechwarrior Online closed beta.

My best friend is going back to school 5k miles from here on the 26th, so I'm fully expecting to find myself with a lot less to do in my free time soon...

[EDIT]
I found a decent build calculator, dunno if it's been linked. Fun to play around, since there are so many options and distinct builds. I'm having a lot of fun just toying with it. Dunno what all of it means, not having practical experience, but still.

Seems like a cool enough calculator, but since I don't read Russian(or whatever language that's in), I have no idea what anything I'm reading says.

Don't think there's a PVP server, all servers are PVE IIRC. No open world PVP in GW2

There's a button under the title that says "EN." Or you can also just attach /en/ after the URL. Here's a linky: http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/

Right now that's the only up-to-date builder that I know of. The others that I'm familiar with are stuck on older BWE's.

I am not sure yet which world my guild will end up on. [Edit: But yes, there are no PVP servers.]

Yeah, sorry, I forgot it was originally in Russian. I had played with it long enough not to think about it.

All servers are PvE. Server choice only really matters for world vs world, which is instanced open world PvP; and for the general community. Eventually we will be able to "guest" on any sever to play with friends so keep that in mind too.

Yaks having /v/ explains the population straw poll results I saw. The Older Gamers are there as well which is why I considered it. But if 4chan is there, I'm not. Unless anyone has a better suggestion I'll go Crystal Desert or with one of the WvW alliances.
#45 Aug 23 2012 at 10:49 AM Rating: Good
Well, Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server for NA. Even though I'm not much of an RP'er, I have noticed that RP servers tend to attract a more mature group of people. So that's part of the appeal to me. Although I think Crystal Desert will be fine in that regard as well, given that it's the unofficial LGBT server. Either way works for me.

You can get GW2 today from New Egg for 47.99 with coupon code EMCNBHJ256.

I believe it's a boxed version so with shipping time you'll likely have forfeited the headstart days.

Let me suggest that we wait on server selection until tomorrow AM-midday (PDT). By that point the larger alliances will have announced where they're going and the lists will be updated. Right now, Crystal Desert looks very promising with Rough Trade and reddit/Karma going there. And, hell, server transfers are free for the first couple of days anyway if we discover it's fail.

I would prefer to play with ya PT =) Let's make it happen!
#48 Aug 23 2012 at 1:18 PM Rating: Good
Definitely, I think that'd be fun! Smiley: grin Which race do you think you're going to start out first? I'm probably going to go with Asura or Sylvari.

Charr probably for my main but I have no problem going to either other starter areas. I plan on completing all zones anyway =)
#50 Aug 23 2012 at 3:25 PM Rating: Good
Okay cool. T'would be fun to have a Charr and an Asura running around together, lol. Smiley: sly I'll admit I am curious about the Charr, Maybe running around the starting area with you will get me interested in making one.

My second toon will be an asura engineer, so we could do that too =) I'll be on at headstart launch, see ya there!

Edit: And if anyone else from Zam wants to join us on Crystal Desert, come on down!. Cheers
