I'm 35 Engineer on Elite, and it's fairly faceroll. I'm running with a giant cannon, stacking mostly Focus and Vitality, bringing Strength up to be able to equip new cannons. I have a ring that lowers stat requirements on gear by 8, so I can often equip gear fairly early. I'm almost pure Construction, keeping Blast Cannon and Healing Bot maxed, and then filling in on Gun Bot and Spider Mines. I've also got some points in Heavy Lifting and Seismic Slam. Basically, as long as I don't stand in pools of ****, I just spam Blast Cannon. If in trouble, kite with Spider Mines and Gun Bot. Slam to get away. I have Haste as one of my spells for more movement speed. I could probably make the build more tanky if I wanted, but I'm fairly robust as it is.

yeah after i posted that i remembered that engi seemed to handle elite pretty well once it got some basic abilities, but i never lasted that long with it.

Hell, most classes probably handle elite pretty well, but veteran is definitely the difficulty for my ability heh. i know i have over a hundred deaths on my outlander, maybe over 200....

I checked out SynergiesMOD. It feels like Veteran on there is like Elite on the regular game. Either that, or I just don't remember how the beginning felt, before having all my abilities (TL2 is the kind of game I'll put a bunch of hours in, and then forget for a few months). I tried the Paladin class, which was neat but only in alpha, so there aren't many abilities. I then started up as a sword and board Engineer, which was a bit rough until I got some points into my healing bot.

yeah i think its balanced so its a little harder, but you get more and better gear, plus you unlock your abilities at a different rate (faster early on, slower later).

I'm going to have to respec to a pure DPS build or tune down the difficulty. I shred through normal white mobs, but when it comes to Elites and Heroes, my damage is SO SLOW. I'm all for increased difficulty, but when things are just taking that long to die, it gets kind of boring. Smiley: lol

thats how it was on vanilla elite too though... Smiley: dubious SnB engineer was slow as molassas. that troll boss at level 10ish took me like 15 minutes to kill.

at level 11 or 12 im already kind of tired of necromancer. I dont think ive ever been a fan of that class in any game really.

I beat the game as a tank engineer on elite with some.

They are ridiculously durable. The one skill that creates a health bubble for you and all your allies is responsible for the bulk of it. Maxed out and at full charge, it was easily 4 times my own health pool. The construction options in engineer can make it fairly mindless if you want, though it won't clear super fast. basically it you keep all your robots up and spam spider mines, things will eventually die.

The one thing I didn't like about engineer is that I felt it suffered from bad game design. The shield is too good, to the point where almost every build has it. When mobs start hitting hard, you almost have to always have it up if you plan on taking any hits, and it's easily 60%-80% of your hp, and you can't see how hurt your shield is until your gone, at which point you have 20% of your life (your full hp) remaining, easily 1-2 shottable. The summons also have incredibly annoying cooldowns. Summoning a minion every 90 seconds that last only 60 seconds is fairly annoying. It's a long enough cooldown and type of ability that you want to set it and forget it in any given fight, but it's so short that you have to constantly refresh it, basically demanding that I keep checking the cd timer every 15 seconds. I also don't understand the need for a period where you don't have your summons, it seem widely unreliable. Every now and then you'll be in a fight where your summon is gone and not yet off cd, and everything dies extremely slowly until that timer goes away. It's a pointless condition. summons should be either entirely permanant set it and forget it spells or short durations with big effects and long cds.

My biggest issue with Engineer is that Healing Bot doesn't persist across zones, so sometimes I'll forget and not resummon it.
