I voted for Alan Wake since it's the only game of the three I don't already have. I did pick up The Witcher 2 at $15.99. I've been waiting for it to go on sale, and that's a pretty decent price for it. I spent some time with From Dust, it's easily worth the $2.49 I spent on it.

That $25 Civ V flash sale is actually a big ole bundle. Civ 3, 4 & 5 complete editions plus Colonization. And a bunch of Civ V DLC.

Comes with Civ III, IV, and V, expansion packs for III and IV, and an assload of DLC for V.

Trine 1-2
Batman Arkam City
Star Wars Force Unleashed 2

Those flash sales seem to be the hot ticket for my impulse buying.

Cities XL 2012 - $9.99
Hitman: Blood Money - $2.49 (some other older Hitman titles also 75% off)
Saints Row the Third - $12.49 (also DLC on sale)
Darkness II - $12.49
Trine 2 - $3.75 (Wasn't this just a Flash or Community sale?)
Walking Dead - $14.99
Serious Sam 3: BFE - $9.99
Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword - $2.49 (also other franchise titles)
and the usual Indie bundle for $9.99.

Unless you want SRTT right now, Amazon is putting it on sale for $9.99 this week. Mount & Blade: Warband is good, if a little rough on the edges in presentation, and considered by most to be the best of the M&B titles. Darkness II is a fun, but short, game with some excellent voice work and memorable characters. I'd say it was worth around $10 but $12.49 is close enough to that point for government work and I don't see it going lower until the publisher lowers the base price (it's 75% off MSRP now).

I remember you talking to Pold about Mount and Blade, Joph, is it worth it?

The current poll was so frickin' hard. Dungeon Defenders, Bastion, or Terraria. Voted Bastion, but I'd be happy for ANY of those titles to go on sale.

Warband is fun. Sort of a cross between Total War and Sid Meier's Pirates!. Go around, building up fame and fortune, fighting bandits and then eventually taking on the armies of other nations. Act as a vassal to your liege and be rewarded with castles and towns or eventually strike out to try and forge your own kingdom. Hire on NPCs who'll enhance your party's skills (medic, tracking, sieges, etc) and have some RPG-style interaction with them. A bit of repetitive stuff (kill enemies, find town to sell your swag at, buy food, rinse & repeat) but still a lot to do so it's not a mechanical grind. Combat is sort of like Total War in troop movement but you also control your character directly and can ride into the melee, slashing at peasant archers or enemy knights in a FPS style while your troops battle around you. There's a multiplayer mode which is just battles without all the single player RPG character development and nation builder elements.

It's rough in that the graphics look like something from the early 2000's and some of the interaction feels limited by modern standards. It's sort of amusing that you have as many sliders when making your character as you see for Skyrim or DA:O but no matter what you'll still look like someone carved you out of a potato Smiley: laugh If you can get past the "This is a not a AAA title from a big developer" hump, I think you'll like it if the above sounded interesting.

Saints Row is definitely worth a playthrough, if only so that you know what GTA could have been had it maintained its trajectory from Vice City/San Andreas. Chinatown Wars had some of the same outrageous vibe. This is why I am so excited for Retro City Rampage. I think I might have to pick up Cities XL 2012 since I need some type of Sim City fix until the reboot next year. Walking Dead as well, although I will probably wait on that since there will likely be some cheap price once all the episodes are released.

Cities XL 2012 looks cool but, man, I always suck at those sorts of games. I put countless hours into SimCity 2000 fighting omnipresent urban blight and watching my cities collapse even as I plugged piles of cheat-coded dollars into trying to renovate them. I don't know if I should pay $10 for that sort of heartbreak ten years later.

I fired it up for the first time last night and tried to dive right in rather than muck around with tutorials. Mind you, the last TW game I played in any depth was the original Medieval (tried MW2, liked MW1 more). Bungled my way through one fight and figured I was going to have to put it off until I could actually learn how to play the game.

I loved the SimCity games, Cities XL 2012 looks like a poorly made SimCity wannabe. Poor tutorial, crappy controls, annoying camera, and the writer must be dyslexic. Admittedly I never played the actual game, the tutorials were enough for me to turn it off and delete it.

I was really looking for a Modern SimCity which is why I grabbed Cities XL. When Cities disappointed I grabbed Anno 2070 and had a lot of fun. It's a cross between SimCity and a RTS.

Just Cause 2 is one of the community vote options this time around. If you ignored every other time you were commanded to buy it, maybe this will change your mind:
Just Cause 2 multi-player mod -- Still in beta testing but they're planning to require a Steam version of the game to prevent piracy and to make people bannable by Steam ID in case of real issues.

Put a few hours into The Witcher 2 and am already regretting not buying it sooner. As to Just Cause 2, I picked it up (along with all of the DLC items) on sale from some site or other for next to nothing. It's a fun little game, huge world (seriously freaking huge) to muck about it, lots of cool toys to play with, and surprisingly shiny graphics. The story isn't particularly interesting and missions could be more varied, but it's definitely worth playing.

I thought it was an enjoyable game, and different enough from the seriousness of GTA4 that I don't really look at one as better than the other. Overall, I enjoyed both games, and enjoy both franchises. I'd probably prefer that they stay different enough from each other so that one doesn't truly feel like a rehash of the other.

If I had to pick one to buy for PC, it'd be SR3, since from what I understand, GTA4 still has issues on PC.

I can't decide if I want Dear Esther or not...

[EDIT]
I'm liking Bastion so far. I LOVE its soundtrack.

I'm debating picking up the Age of Empires III: Complete Collection. I really can't decide.

Civilization: Complete Collection is 71% off for $40. Worth it if you want to try some of the older games. Most people seem to like either 2 or 5 the best. If we are including the expansion into 5, it has a lot more fans (expansion adds religion, for instance, which really should never have been left out of the core).

Is Age of Empires III worth it? I've gotta admit, I've never played AoE...

They do that a lot. I've posted three offers for a free game + voucher in the last week or so. A couple other free games they've given away have been worth $2 or $3 each back in trade-in credit. Not a bad deal even if the game itself is no great shakes.

Amazon doesn't use anything. You either get a Steam key (which you activate on Steam, natch) or a small executable to download the game and which you can then delete. If the game requires GFWL or Origin or whatever you'll still have to link it to that account.

GMG has a launcher called "Capsule" that they use for their stuff. If the game is Steamworks you'll get a Steam key instead and not need Capsule. The reason for Capsule is because they allow you to trade games (on Capsule) back for credit so they need a DRM method of handling that. Games not on Capsule are not eligible for trade-in since they can't block your Steam games.

I don't believe GamersGate or GetGamesGo use anything for their non-Steamworks games. I've only ever bought Steam keys from them.
