PS3 NewbieFollow

So we finally said ***** it and hooked the PS3 up with a temporary HDMI cable salvaged from the media center PC, since I am borrowing its keyboard anyway and it's pretty much useless until my new keyboard comes in. (Old one had keys suddenly stop working, as cheap $20 keyboards are wont to do. I really need to suck it up and pay for a heavy duty mechanical keyboard. Someday.)

Anyway, so I somehow completely ignored the quickstart guide but managed to figure out everything on my own more or less anyway. Made a PSN account, and got logged into Home.

And then promptly spent two hours wandering around the shopping mall and related areas.

It's one of the most cleanly done virtual worlds I think I've seen (and I've seen more virtual worlds than I have MMORPGs by a factor of ten.)

Actual quote: "Oh look there's a Ferris wheel! I want to ride the Ferris wheel - wtf TURKEYS?!"

Cute little turkeys wandering around the wooden dock below the Ferris wheel...

All in all, not bad. Two hours of outright entertainment tonight, and I haven't even unwrapped Uncharted 3 yet.

So, my fellow ZAMians, what should be my next step on this grand PS3 adventure? I need mentoring and guidance, or else I'm going to be riding the Ferris wheel and feeding the turkeys for the next week.

Hit the PSN Store, buy stuff since they are having a Black Friday "Sale", download Netflix and watch movies. Can't help you further until you tell us what game types you play, then we can give recommendations.

This. Uncharted is fun, but I've put more time into a single session of Skyrim than it took to play through all of Uncharted 3. As to PS3 specific stuff, I can't help you, honestly, I use mine more for movies than anything else. If you haven't yet, download a free program called PS3 Media server, it'll let you transfer just about any type of video file to your PS3. It works much, much better than the standard media server abilities built into windows.

This. The transcoding feature is awesome.

Fantasy RPGs, simulation and puzzle games, and party games that people can play while drinking.

(Absinthe Wii Super Mario World was good times.)
