Later this month Sony will begin limiting the number of PS3s and PSPs that can share a game purchased through the Playstation Network, the UK Playstation blog said this morning.

It's unclear if the same restrictions will apply to U.S. content and Playstation Network users as well.

Starting with game content purchased after Nov. 18 a new policy will apply that limits the number of devices that the content can be "activated" on. Users will be able to play the game on no more than two activated PS3 systems. PSP owners will be able to play the game on no more than two activated portables.

This update will not affect game content purchased before Nov. 18, but it will impact everything purchased after even for old PSPs and the PSPgo, they said.

Activation settings can be changed through each device. Sony Computer Entertainment also plans to provide a new Playstation Network account management website where users will be able to deactivate devices through their computers.

The guide to activating and deactivating your PS3 is available on the UK site as well. Currently there is no U.S. version of this site that I can find.

We've reached out to the U.S. Playstation folks to see if this new policy will be hitting those in North America as well. My money is on yes.

Doesn't apply to me as I don't have any friends that I trust enough with my PSN acount to share games with, but I figure some of you share it with your friends/family members.

Ouch. I have a copy of my account set up on both my roommates' PS3s so I can use either if one is being used. Hope it won't be too painful when I get one of my own next year.

Wow, you've got an awesome writing style.! I really dig the narrator's back story, humor, sarcasm, and the plethora of pop culture references. Altogether a refreshingly different RotR journal (not that I don't like the more traditional ones, mind you).

Are they both set up on each other's system too?

You could just get the same model as one of them (used/refurbished), and have one of them set up on the new one. Then you take the one your account is already on, and your roomie gets the one you brought home, with his account on it. Then nobody is on more than two systems.
