Add another game to the ol' hybrid model list: http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=26809.

With Champions Online and City of Heroes taking the free-to-play route, we'll have to see if DC Universe Online follows suit. That game could certainly benefit from a F2P option.

I've always wanted to try out city of heroes this could possibly allow me to do that and see if it's sometimes I'm interested in. Though the term F2P is a bit deceiving while it is free it sounds like it's free but with significantly less content, though I understand why.

I swear I mentioned this was going free to play about a year ago, but apparently I was thinking of Champions Online. I guess I'm just psychic. :D

ETA: It wasn't a year, it was back in November. And I guess my husband isn't so stupid after all.

Paragon Studios mentioned in the FAQ that they've "been planning this transition to Freedom for well over a year now." Looks like your husband was listening to the right rumor mill! Smiley: smile

Well, they need to make money off the F2P players somehow.

As a subscriber, I'm not really enthusiastic about this but I'll give it a couple months and see how it shakes out. Namely the typical F2P "points" thing and how much the subscriber model will retain the same experience without mysteriously not having enough "free" points to get what you used to get.

I just always hate how F2P generally have the best items in a store, rather than in the game proper. Like, no, I'm not going to pay $30 to outfit my character with the best gear. I could play a subscription MMO for 2 months on that...
