Not gonna lie, if sarcastic Hawke was a romance option, I'd tap that. :P

WTB new main character.

You get his when you finish the personal quest "Justice."

[EDIT]

Does that quest line require romance?

Maybe he goes emo if your not dating him when he does that>.> I didn't finish the quest to see if he doesn't end up going all gorilla war-fare on my *** if I didn't help him.

Hmmm I can check...

Edit: So I loaded an auto save that was before the final fight(on my second character) and did justice and his outfit did in fact change. So yeah, I guess if your dating he doesn't feel all doomed and gloom.

Edited, Mar 21st 2011 4:45pm by Laxedrane

Double edit: Well im a tart. Apperently my memory failing or I failed to notice, I just loaded my first play through and yeah he wearing the new outfit. Guess I didn't notice since it's just a color change and that's all!

Not like merril's pearlescent wonder.

I swear to god, this game is making me rage so hard.

So, I just started Act 3 and it turns out I missed a romance option somewhere in Act 1 or 2 so now I have to start over from Act 1 if I want to romance Isabela. That's another 20+ hours of doing something I just did. Of course, I could always pull another type through (Warrior, maybe?), except the Mage type is by far the most interesting of the three.

But WHY did they have to make all the robes so lame and completely not like the armor seen in the trailer (or the type selection screen)? Bleah, I'm wearing a dress.

And that is the main reason why I'll never play a mage. I wish more games would do away with the "robes" cliche.

Though I do have to give Dragon Age credit for actually putting blades on their staves. I mean, it just makes sense.

The Mage set of Champion Armor is the best, imo. It's the one in the trailer.

And the romance queue for Isabela is in Act 2.

If she returned with the relic, you should be good to go. Ditto if she spent the night. She'll never move into your house, and her romance doesn't really progress until Act 3, I think. If she hasn't returned to Kirkwall yet, I think you definitely missed it though. But if you have a save from before the relic quest, it might still be possible to sex her up.

I'm gonna romance Isabela in my next play through, I think. I just haven't decided if I want to be male or female.

[EDIT]

The thing that annoys me is that, even though Hawke/Bethany/Anders/<insert mage> are appostates, they all walk around in Robes, carrying staves (that CLEARLY aren't walking sticks). I mean, c'mon. You build this huge plot around Mages being opressed and then just have a few walking UP TO TEMPLARS to get quests, and then just wandering away without being attacked/killed/thrown in the circle?

It might make sense in terms of "Well, that was a powerfully enchanted piece of gear!" It doesn't make sense in terms of "So I decided I'm not gonna die today."

Act 3 and I'm still wearing what appears to be a slightly woolen robe.

Ghastly.

As for the romancing, I saw that people were sexing Isabela up in Act 2 already, but she only showed up at my estate once where she interacted with the dog and left.

I'm at 100% friendship, though, and she came back in the end of Act 2. I went to the Hanged Man and did the whole charming thing where she joins my group again, but meh...?

Maybe I just have to wait for the last companion quest and see what happens? From what I've read, though, you should be in a relationship with her in Act 2 already (even though she doesn't move in).

Edit: And yeah, the fact that you start your career in Kirkwall by disposing of some refugees with spells in front of the city guard and them not even raising an eyebrow is luls.

By the way, I love Blood Magic. Using up all my mana to apply various sustained spells and then using my health to cast spells. Walking Bomb + that mind control thing + Hemorrhage makes for some nasty AOE. And the mind control spell cast animation is probably the coolest in the game.

I wish messy kills were as common this time around as they were in the last game. I miss cutting heads off...

Especially since they gave Crushing Prison such a cool finisher.

I don't know about strictly cutting heads off but I know I make people explode into pieces a lot.

Personally I really enjoy the robes a lot more in this one. I especially like the improvement to staff's looks and movements. However I agree strictly restricting mages to robes is getting old. Although completely getting rid of them would be stupid too.

I personally found rogue much more enjoyable this version then the last as a mages user myself. On my second and third play through it only took me 10 hours to get act 1 done with all the quests I could possibly find. So I recommend just starting another character then starting over.

Could be worse. I finished the game over the weekend and last night went to put in Black Ops for some good old fashioned killing stuff with guns. When I went to put my DA2 disc in it's case I looked at my code sheet for all the free stuff you get for preordering and realized that I never used my code to get Sebastian. I played through the whole game without him. If he's as uninteresting as Merril and whatever the hell that other elf is called though, I suppose I didn't miss much.

Oh, and the Robes of the Champion set looks more like armor than robes. Wearing that plus the rock skin effect looks pretty badass actually.

I make people explode on a regular basis (despite being a Mage, I'm covered in blood spatter almost every cinematic). Blood Slave is just wicked when upgraded with Blood Spatter. Provided your target lives for 10 seconds, it explodes into a bloody mist, damaging everyone nearby.

Hemorrhage upgraded is also sweet. Stunned targets just spaz out while blood is bursting from them.

I wish the spell used in the trailer and opening fight was available, though. The one where you stick your hands into the Fade and demonic hands grab hold of your target and rip it apart...

Man, I can't emphasize how much I want that spell.

What kind of sucks is that you've got so many spells available at level 20+, but due to cooldowns, you really only use a handful of them. I've got my sustained mitigation spells running and my spell list consists of basically the Blood Magic abilities, Walking Bomb, Tempest and Spirit Bolt.

Oh, and Chain Lightning, which seems to go off just after my target dies, causing it to do a grand total of no damage.

Maybe I should switch to some Frost Magic for easy AOE kills, but really, I'm having too much fun just bursting people open and sucking out their life energy to bother.

Besides, Cone of Cold is just boringly overpowered.

It's the finishing effect of Crushing Prison, from what I understand. When an Ogre gets down to about 10%, have everyone else back off and use CP. You should see the effect when it dies.

Part of it is not wanting everyone wearing the same stuff in a game, I suppose. I'd love to see other cloth options, though. You can create pretty cool coats, for instance.

Smiley: dubious

Time to reset the abilities then. Gonna try that out.

On an unrelated note, why the hell can't I choose Bethany over Carver as a Mage? Sure, you don't really need another Mage if you're already one, but I just. Can't. Stand. Carver! Seriously, he's such a whiny little prick.

And since your sibling runs off to die or join the Wardens/Templars/Magi before Act 2, what the hell does it matter?

I just wish you could choose which one to kill off.

Honestly, I would have done it so it was that it was either always the same gender sibling that died, or the opposite gender. That would give the option for a more consistent story.

I had a funny thing happen on my first playthrough. I picked a mage champion and made him a healer. Makes sense because he'll always be with me, so I can pick whatever other people I want and always have a healer right? Well it worked pretty decently.

At one point though, you have to 1v1 a certain very hard boss guy (I won't mention who if you haven't played it) and well... I suddenly realized that my champion was *literally* invincible! Whatever regen sustainables he had made it so he rgenerated so fast even if the guy could hit me for half my life, I'd regen before his next hit. It didn't matter that basically every one of his hits was a stun or knock down and I could barely damage him, being an all healer.

The fight consisted of about 20 minutes of him kicking the living **** out of me up and down the room and me plinking him. I nearly fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. The room was coated in my blood by the time he died.

The final armor as a mage isn't a robe and it looks fairly badass. ^.^
