Are you using a ring or item that deals damage to enemies when they strike you? I did some Googling, and saw someone mention that they were using a ring that does this, and Blood Magic would proc it, so you'd basically be attacking yourself. Probably some lazy programming, triggering the damage proc on HP lost or something, or treating the HP spent under Blood Magic as melee damage.

Can I get some clarification?

Blood magic is 2 mana per 1 health (3 with a talent, and more with gear, but I'm just going with 2 for the example). So a spell that costs 10 mana should cost no more than 5 health.

Are your spells costing 20 health? 10 health?

But no, I haven't heard of that bug. And I can't find anyone even talking about it online.

Just to be clear--you didn't just take off a piece of gear did you? Like an amulet that gives +1 mana per health or something (or more).

Because, say you were wearing 2 of them. You'd be getting 5 mana per health. If you took those off, you'd be getting 3 per health. So a 30 mana spell would cost 10 health as opposed to 6.

I have the setting where numbers would pop up when I gave or recieved damage. And I did some testing out of fight. When I would cast haste It would deal 55+5 damage(the spell cost something like 30 mana).

Edit: Actually i recall last night the first number would vary. It would say 56 then 59 then 58 but always plus 5. Both those numbers were roughly the same when I casted heal and haste.

As to spoonless. Would the rings with the description "Deals 100% damage verse enemies that melee" be the ring your talking about?

I am not sure. I lost the post, but it sounded like it was kind of a damage spikes type of ring. I stopped playing too early into the game to know from personal experience.

Are you sure you didn't just replace some of your "Blood Magic costs less health" trinkets? When I was rolling three of those, my guy's health barely moved. It was awesome. And boring.

At least when he lost health, I'd have an excuse to use the siphon thingy that made stuff die.

Man, I need to do another play-through.

Remember to romance Isabela this time.

Also, I still can't decide if I want this play through to be a "good" or an "evil" one. And I don't want to start until I figure that out. Because, if I'm good, I want to romance Isabela. If a badass, I want to romance Sebastian (which means I'll need to be female).

Either way, I'll likely be a Mage for this next one.

I dunno if I posted this yet, but might as well post it (again).

BioWare has their first patch completed and it includes over 100 bug fixes, including the infinite gold/exp glitches, the free talent points glitch, and more. I'm pretty sure Sebastian and Isabela romance glitches are fixed as well. It'll be out as soon as both Sony and Microsoft approve it.

Well it's taking more health then it would to cast it if I did not have blood magic active. So, yes.

Edit: So I finally got around to checking today. And it was in fact "Deals 100% damage verse enemies that attack in melee" ring. Heads up for blood magic users.

I had to download an update for dragon age II(I think it was for DA2) when I booted up this morning. Could it be this patch?

Do you play on the PC or Mac? If so, then yes it is.

Consoles are still waiting for clearance from Sony/Microsoft.

properly removed and re-applied when loading and saving.

- Potions, poisons, grenades, and runes can now still be ordered from the Hawke
estate after the main campaign is complete.
- Various minor gameplay issues no longer occur.

QUESTS (SPOILER WARNING)
- “Duty” will now appear on the Chanter’s Board even if the player accepted
all of the board’s quests before installing the Exiled Prince premium content.
- The journal for “Duty” will now update if the player left the Docks (Night)
area immediately after killing the Flint Company mercenaries.
- In “Finders Keepers,” the door to Woodrow’s Warehouse will now open if the
player steals the location to the warehouse from the harbormaster’s office.
- In “Finders Keepers,” if the player leaves Woodrow’s Warehouse before finding
the crate, it is now possible to return to the warehouse to complete the quest.
- In “Herbalist’s Tasks,” the varterral’s heart is now available even if
the player killed the varterral before receiving the quest.
- Merrill no longer refers to the aftermath of “A New Path” before the plot
has been completed.

- Various minor story-scripting issues no longer occur.

Thank goodness. Those were annoying as ****. The first time that happend with Merrell, I was wondering WTF she was going on about. On my second playthrough, when she smashed the mirror, I realized what was going on. It was very surreal.

Hmmm I am almost positive that I got an update today for DA2 on 360. The "PC specific functionality" section seems to imply this update was for all platforms too. I could be wrong though. Ohhhh I know let me see if I get avelines new armor..

Well, my source was two days old when I posted, so it's possible.

Digging around I've found rumors that the 360 patch was coming out today, with PS3 next week, but that seems weird--they normally always release them simultaneously. And I can't find sources.

But I can at least confirm that I didn't get anything on the PS3.

If anyone's doing a Mage play through, having Isabela and Carver in your group for act 1 is WELL worth it. Aveline adds some fun to the mix as well.

Carver is a d*ck. I couldn't stand him.

Aveline did grow on me though after a while.

Aveline + Varric = win
Isabela + Varric = win
Aveline + Isabela = win

Carver had me grinding my teeth two conversations into the game.

It's just a shame that you have to go with Merril or Anders for the healing. Merril was absolutely not my cup of tea and Anders' angst trip gets annoying after Act 2.

I'm assuming that you modded your Merril? Because Anders is my only option. :(

And you don't bring Carver along because you like him, you bring him along for the party banter. Isabela absolutely loves teasing him, and it's hilarious.

Or just read the dialogues.

What's surprising is that he actually seems to like Merril. I would have figured the blood magic thing to be a huge turnoff for him.

My favorite dialogue is still Anders/Sebastian regarding his belt though.

Okay, Isabela/Sebastian is hilarious too.

Sebastian: Is this getting you any closer to your ship?
Isabela: Huh?
Sebastian: I just... don't understand why you're working with Hawke. You don't seem to care about anything we do.
Sebastian: What's keeping you here?
-If Hawke and Isabela have slept together:
Isabela: Mostly the sex. Hawke is an absolute tiger between the sheets. I mean all night, every night.
Isabela: Oh cute! You're blushing.
-If not:
Isabela: Mostly the Blooming Rose. I'm paid up through the end of the year. I'd hate not to use it.
Sebastian: The... brothel?
Isabela: What? Women can't go to brothels, too? You're just not using your imagination.
Isabela: Oh, look! Now you are. You're cute when you're blushing.

In terms of party banter, Merrill along with either Isabela or Varric (preferably both) is the best.

I really liked Aveline which is odd cause I usually detest characters with her mentality. This is properly becuase she one of the most well done character within in the lovers of order population. She has actual depth and responds to situation on a situational purpose. She a lover of order but is a person. She will bend the rules when her Morales tell her to do so when many other characters lack this kind of depth that make them human.

I think the only bad pairing Aveline has is with Sebastien. No jokes or sarcasm there just plain disappointment. At least with carver I was extremely entertain when she pretty much told him he was to immature to be a guardsmen and even went out of her way to say he be a bad one to her superiors.

Merril kind of special is rarely pulled off as well as hers in party chat. Naivety can be more then troublesome. It can be ******* hilarious.

I think Aveline/Sebastian is still pretty good. It doesn't have the hilarity of other pairings, no, but it adds a lot to both characters imo. What with her actually forcing him to think about what it would mean to retake his country.

This is true. I worded it poorly in my post. What I meant about plain disappointment was how Aveline feels towards Sebastian.

Those are some impressive mutton chops. I can't look at Dominic(?) without thinking of one of those old BBC series. Pride and Prejudice, perhaps. Or Upstairs, Downstairs.
