You can on PS3 also although it might be more limited than on the PC version but i wouldn't know since I'm on PS3 also. On the radial menu you have a "move to position" command that let's you set a point for your character to move to.

Huh, I never noticed that.

So why didn't the console versions have isometric cameras?

I don't think I've ever felt more immersed in a shooter by playing on a console. But I do most of my gaming on my PS3 (since my PC isn't really strong enough to run most recent games well).

In my high school AP Comp Sci class, we'd just play Quake instead of doing our programs (and then do those for HW). Sniping was waaaaaay easier using a mouse.

Pretty much the same for me. I like the "trigger" feel of the console controllers' buttons. I guess that most of it is just about familiarity.

I grew up playing FPS' on PCs (Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D), so it's harder for me to play them on consoles. After the plethora of add-ons, mods, & various tools that were made for DA: O on PC I wouldn't want to play DA: II on anything other than a PC. Hell, the "tab" toggle add-on, makes it so "tab" is always pressed, by itself is more than enough to make the decision to go PC an easy one. Then there's a number of cosmetic (******** custom (new armor & weapons), & re-specialization add ons to boot!

For those of us that don't play the pc version, why is the tab thing significant?

And I'd love to play on the PC, but I don't have one anywhere near good enough. I probably COULD run it (I could use the character creator, at least, lol), but it would be far from enjoyable, with my fps at a constant <10 (and worse in combat and such).

I'd also love it to have addons. D: There was one that let you open up Alistair to male/male relationships. I wanted it. Badly. /sigh

I wonder how hard it would be for them to let you use addons on a console, lol? I'm guessing very... (assuming it isn't running linux).

Too bad.

I'm actually kinda happy I'm not on the PC at the same time. The urge to cheat on difficult bosses (or in general) would be too strong for me to overcome. There's a pretty significant difference between modding it so that my Hawke doesn't have spec limitations (or can access Warrior specs as a Rogue, etc.) and Hawke being invulnerable. :P

Oh yeah, one thing I have to add about DA2--I haven't hit any slow downs like in DA:O. There was one issue with it freezing at the very start of the game, but everything else has been smooth. No lagging at all.

TOTALLY random peeve about DA2 that just occurred to me while thinking about armor mods. Alistair was wearing the silver version of Cailan's armor from DA:O. Why?

I mean, for one, Cailan's Armor was an amazing set that you could get from Ostagar, which I put on Alistair. Furthermore, even if you don't have the DLC, Alistair wears a gold set in the epilogue if he is made king.

The silver is just so... bland. It isn't kingly, nor is it becoming. I want the gold back, dammit.

Random rant, over.

It does boil down to familiarity, but moving a crosshair or mouse cursor with a joystick just seems... inefficient. I mean, I know DA2 doesn't require the highest mouse sensitivity and reaction times, especially with pausing, but I couldn't imagine playing any FPS/TPS game with a joystick.

Does the console version have auto-aim or something? I imagine it would be kinda hard to click on a moving target without.

Most have pretty heavy aim-assist, yeah. Like with CoD, if you have someone close to the center of the screen, you can hit aim and you'll be centered on them, so you don't have to mess with it at all (which goes against my instincts, so I usually mess up. :P). You still need to move it as they move, but the initial targeting is essentially done for you.

Can't you just spam the aim button and hold down the fire button?

I imagine you'd die a lot. And spend most of your time reloading. Also, by doing that, you'd be hitting them with a few bullets, then shooting from the hip and missing, then hitting them, then missing. They'll probably kill you in the meantime. Aim assist focuses you on their chest. If you want headshots, you need to learn how to quickly maneuver your aim.

Console aim assist is usually much more subtle than that. CoD's is a bit on the heavier side, but it's still slight enough that you don't notice it unless you're aiming at someone, and another target runs in front of you causing your aim to pull off of your first target (which is when it gets annoying). I'd just as soon play without it...I don't think it's necessary for the average FPS player.

As far as efficiency goes, since everyone's using the same system, it doesn't come into play. What matters is that you're on a level playing field, I think. Also, I personally don't think faster necessarily = better when it comes to FPS's. For example, I prefer Killzone's movement and aiming over CoD's, because everything has a little heavy object acceleration to it. It makes your character and gun feel like they have realistic weight to them. It slows down the game, but I think that's a change for the better because it forces more strategic play (and you feel like a soldier, not a free-camera with a gun in front of it).

Maybe not in PvE. You are perfectly free to disable CoD's aim assist. But good luck in PvP...

Well, don't mind me, I've been a PC player since forever and have only had brief encounters with consoles. Last FPS I played on one was Goldeneye on the old Nintendo thingy.

As for efficiency, I was comparing across machines. It just seems to me that controllers would be horrible for precise aiming. Like if you have to headshot someone where the top of the head is barely visible behind a crate. Doable, probably, but seems inefficient as heck.

It's definitely not as simple. But the fact that everyone else is also using a controller makes it at least balanced (you play vs. console players only, not vs pc players, so it evens out).

Games are just generally slightly longer on consoles.

I remember when I played Goldeneye back in the days. The other guy playing jumped down in front of me and we spent a good 20 seconds trying to hit each other. It was like watching two really, really drunk cowboys duel.

I see your "slaps only" and raise you a "slaps only, crouching only, max health".

I started a match in 1998. Should be wrapping it up any month now.

PS: While we're on this tangent, didn't you love how when crouched, your character just slid along on the floor on one knee, without moving a muscle? To a third party, a crouched slap fight between two players looked like two statues just sliding around at each other.

So I finally got Isabella. I started the DLC for Stephen Vael and I killed all of the Flint mercenaries, so he's all happy. But now I can't find him to get him in my party. Smiley: frown

Also, I understand that you can romance him (and he's a hottie), but because of his freaking vow of chastity, you can't ***** him. He also doesn't count for the romance achievement.

What the fuck, Bioware?!

BioWare's stance on chastity is disagreeable.

Also, her name is Isabela. Yes, it's pronounced Isabella, but she's a unique snowflake.

He's in the chantry. If you have some other quest objective in there, you may need to finish that up first before he'll appear. You don't actually get him in your party until Act II, iirc.

Mazra noted the Isabela name thing... So I might as well note that his name is Sebastian. :P

Oh, ***** you guys for judging me. You knew who I was talking about. Smiley: bah

And I expected you to take my side, idiggory. I mean, he's yummy.

There is a definite lack of male party members to romance. I for one am upset by the small amount of ***** in my party.

Lol, I liked him at first. But he and Anders don't get along, and I'm romancing Anders in this play through. :P He got on my nerves later on though. Then again, so has Anders. And Fenris has always been on my nerves...

Dammit Bioware, just let me romance Varric! I ALWAYS love him. Or give me my precious Alistair back. D:

But yeah, I'm not thrilled with the Romance options this time around. I love that nearly everyone is bi (but Sebastian)--that's a great addition. But none of the romances are as interesting to me as Alistair/Leliana/Morrigan were. Well, except Isabela, but she's not a man so whatevs.

I may try to bump uglies with the elf chick. She's interesting. And maybe Isabela once, just because I can.

Yeah, romancing Varric would be interesting. I don't know who Fenris is yet.
