Few Questions About This GameFollow

#1 Aug 29 2006 at 1:41 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, I play FFXI for PS2, and am thinking about giving this game a shot..

Few questions:

1. How's the population? I never really hear much about this game...

2. Updates? Expansion Packs? Or did the developers just kind of leave the game to die?

3. How much is solo and how much is party based? In FFXI pretty much everything is party based, except for Beastmaster (which is prodimanately solo, and my favorite job, use of pets, probably like a necro).

4. Roughly how long does it take to reach the level cap, what is the level cap, and is there a lot of end game content?

Thank you in advanced.

I would be interested to hear as well. Also, do bards just have a SoW equivalent or is it much faster than SoW like in original EQ?

Dead/dyeing. FFXI basically disconnected EQOA's left arm, and WoW basically shot it in the face. The locals whos still play like to defend it and deny that it's dyeing, but most of them know it is. They just like to hope.

2. Updates? Expansion Packs? Or did the developers just kind of leave the game to die?
There was one expansion 7 or 9 months after the game was released, it's called Frontiers (EQOA Frontiers), and besides that, the developers did just kind of leave the game to die.

3. How much is solo and how much is party based? In FFXI pretty much everything is party based, except for Beastmaster (which is prodimanately solo, and my favorite job, use of pets, probably like a necro).
Basically, you can solo with any class if you know how, but eh. It's generally better to group. Healers (druids, shamans, clerics) would generally suck at soloing though. Atleas for leveling wise. There's to many different situiations to explain in detail of each clsses soloing capabilities. It's varied, but if you must know, I'll tell you, just ask.

4. Roughly how long does it take to reach the level cap, what is the level cap, and is there a lot of end game content?
Level cap is 60 (50 if you don't have frontiers, but it's sad if you don't by now). Some people get to the cap in like 2 months (or less), and others (who try) don't get there for like 6-8 months, or more. And then the people who are like me, and don't reallycare about hitting level cap, you just wanna have fun and be dumb talking to people in towns for hours, and play your other characters ("alts", if you will), it can take you as long as you want it too, 3 years, or 3 months. Now days [some] people can get 3 60's faster than when what it'd take to get 1 50 before Frontiers was released (I'm not going to take the time to explain how I see it. I started this game in March of 03, about 5 or 6 weeks after it's release).

Thank you in advanced.

To sum up everything I can say about this game (or mostly everything), it's a great game don't get me wrong, but it has way to many flaws in the mechanics of it. The original devs who made the game are gone, and their vision (as far as I can see it) was nearly perfect, but they had some work to do to make it happen, but they weren't around long enough to see it. These new devs, they just suck (biaslly perhaps, but then again, perhaps not. They do do dumb stuff though.). And, probably the biggest flaw in the game is the way the classes are set up. Specifically, Shadowknights (sk's), Warriors (war's), and Palidens (pally's/pal's) (if you want me to explain this to you too, I will. But no guarentee's, becuase I don't know if I'd be able to word it the way I think it.).

1. How's the population? I never really hear much about this game...
The population is sufficient to have fun and play the game as it was intended.
Play on CLW...good population there. Once you are 50+ you will certainly have plenty of people to play with.

2. Updates? Expansion Packs? Or did the developers just kind of leave the game to die?
The game is constantly being updated. Very impressive for a game with no expansions to speak of in a long while. The game stays fresh and content is constantly added though never enough to please people it seems. Game changes and new quests have been added like every two weeks now for a long while.

3. How much is solo and how much is party based? In FFXI pretty much everything is party based, except for Beastmaster (which is prodimanately solo, and my favorite job, use of pets, probably like a necro).
There is no exp bonus for going solo. Grouping is faster exp. If exp is not your goal than every single class of every type can solo, some are better at it than others. Any petter(necro, mage, enchanter) druids and shamans and alcamists all come to mind.

4. Roughly how long does it take to reach the level cap, what is the level cap, and is there a lot of end game content?
Hehe if ya know the tricks you can hit the level cap of 60 in 15 hours as Faesmage proved on CLW, but for a newbie it will probably take a few months.

***** CLW. Pick the server you want, people keep saying CLW has the most people, but if it does, it's probably not by much (unless population fluctuation has changed DRASTICALLY in like 4 or 5 months).

It is being updated constanly, but right now only stuff it NEEDS to be fair for every class, or menial stuff that you can't really count as more "game content", though technically I guess it is that.

3. How much is solo and how much is party based? In FFXI pretty much everything is party based, except for Beastmaster (which is prodimanately solo, and my favorite job, use of pets, probably like a necro).

Any class can solo, but not all classes can solo efficiently. If you really want to solo, go ahead, but it probably wouldn't be to fulfilling. no class is an expert at solo XP mobs, but if you do it right, you can however build a characters to solo some strong/rare/good rare dropping mobs.

4. Roughly how long does it take to reach the level cap, what is the level cap, and is there a lot of end game content?

This further proves my point on the leveling thing. Not to fun if you put say 3 years into 2 characters barely over level 50, and somebody comes along and gets a 60 in less than a day. ick..

Please Dimdark, don't take this as anything against you, it's just more in-debth stuff.

The Populaton is still good enough on alot of servers(mostly Marrs Fist Castle LightWolf and Direns Hold) But with any game it loses and gains people everyday.

2. Updates? Expansion Packs? Or did the developers just kind of leave the game to die? The only "real" epxpansion was Frontiers but like dim said there are constantly new updates with quests abilities storylines etc.

3. How much is solo and how much is party based? In FFXI pretty much everything is party based, except for Beastmaster (which is prodimanately solo, and my favorite job, use of pets, probably like a necro). You can solo but like everyone said the experience gained comes at a slower rate. So for xping soloing isn't the best unless your waiting for a group. Soloing is still a big part of the game like when you find that rare quest mob while your running around and have no one to help or if you are farming.

4. Roughly how long does it take to reach the level cap, what is the level cap, and is there a lot of end game content? My first level 60 took me 4-5 months with a month off but after that it really isn't hard because you really have a swing of things.

Thank you in advanced.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I hope you decide to come and try it out.

First off I'd like to say wow, you guys are a huge help.
If this were the FFXI forums you'd all be yelling at each other about spaghetti or something.

Another questions: Whats the subscription fee? I might pick up the game and play both FFXI and EQOA.

Subscriptions fees are 12.99 A month i believe if you pay per month. I payed for a full year at a time and therefore pay only 8.99 a month. So if you do play its in your best interest to pay for a year.

Eh, that's because nobody plays EQOA enough to need to come and post here much.. Besides, we have ren stop by every few months (or sometimes weeks) to give us our dose of that in large sums.

But anyways, if you're going to play EQOa, try Marr's Fist. And make a Monk. And if you make a Monk, just raise STR/DEX/STA untill you understand the grander abilities and styles you can have with a monk. They're a melee class, and have cool flashy/fasty abilities. And don't start EQOA if you can't get a Frontiers account. Maybe some day when I get a job at dairy queen in the next few months i'll activate my account and say howdy-doo to you.
