I found this link on the official forums and thought I would post it here. It is an article from 'The Hollywood Reporter' which talks about the pricing of MMo to the subscribers. The excert below is supposedly a quote from Nancy Mc Intyre. I will also post the link to the full article.

"Not all games are set up around the buying and selling of items, which would make it very difficult to take a game like 'Star Wars Galaxies' and make that transition," she says. But, she adds, when "Star Wars Galaxies 2" is developed -- perhaps in 2008 or 2009 -- things will be different. "If we were starting to build 'Star Wars Galaxies' today, we would absolutely consider building it from the ground up with premium services."

...............*hopes get up a little*..............

I understand the tactic they may be using in luring SWG fans to read there articles, but im just a little more happy now, *IF*....*IF*....they made an SWG2...would our accounts be used to login in an play i wonder, or would we get our characters names just at lvl 1 or something. Cant wait to see

so in two years they might start swg 2. i got a feeling that people will still be devided on what they want and dont. and if they build one the orignal swg will either fade away or be like everquest just full of high lvl going around with no influx of new people.

no offense, but old.

even if they did start it, it would take at least 2-3 years for development.

which means it wouldnt be out until 2011ish, and if people were still dwelling on swg at that time, they wouls be truley pathetic

/e looks at the date on his clock.

Wait..... so 2006 + 2 or 3 = 2011?

/e scratches his head.

Anyways, as long as SWG is being led by SOE, I can't see myself playing it, or even its sequel. SOE has a long history of deciet and lying with their online games, too much of one for me to keep playing.

OK, this is what bothers me about this article, I've read it before. While the idea of SWG 2 is great, first thing, I would like to have SOMEONE ELSE other than SOE run or code it, after the way they've managed SWG now, and the way they plan to manage SWG2 in the future, it is completely asinine! Here's why:

SOE has claimed that they wish to approach SWG2 the same way guild wars was approached (pay for the game, free online game play) HOWEVER, not only would they endorse that advertisements would be placed in the game because you're not paying a dime for free gameplay, BUT ALSO, that there will be "premium services" if players choose to use real cash.

Does anyone not see a problem with this????
This is a HUGE problem! They are basically saying "Hey! You want that ultra rare light saber hilt and crystal? Why bother questing for it? give us $5.00 and we'll give it to you, no effort needed" or worse "This weapon you'll never be able to quest for it or loot it, but if you want it and be ub3r l337, then give us $10.00 and we'll give it to you!"

Exactly what kind of audience is SOE trying to reach?
First, sorry SOE, NO! I don't want yahoo, google or Ebay advertisements popping up while I'm in the middle of a fight, or ANYWHERE for that matter. Also, if you're gonna start HANDING players items for money for no effort, I'm not sure I'll want to play your "game"

They even had the nerve to say they could even implement it for teleporting! TELEPORTING for god's sake! even if they charge 15cents for it, how many times do we use some form of teleportation device to get to another zone in one day? Exactly! SOE has become a really pathetic version fo Big Brother, always attempting to have more control over the player population than they SHOULD have! Forget it! SOE, if you implement this, mark my words, the only reason I'll EVER buy or even touch any of your games, will be so I can burn it to the ground and then **** on its remains, I'll even send you the tape so you can enjoy my opinion of your products

advertisments, i belive the way there refering to them, would be like planetsude, which arnt bad at all.

in that, the ads only appear in bases, and there just like little billboards, and the way there made actualy look in place.

as for the premium content, i imagine it all would be obtainable without buying it, but if the game can be run off lazy ***** who would rather buy there gear instead of palying for it, thats all good, means i dont have to pay.
hell, in games that do charge me people are still buying most of the good gear, so why not have the same thing happen and have me not have to pay?

That's not what an MMO is about and I know I for sure would not play a game that offers these "premium services" It's an insult to the players and to true RPers. Its basically sayin we are all nothing but sell outs to them who will eventually cave in. Nuh uh, besides, nothing good can come from an MMO like this, because rather than improving, fixing and evolving the game, all the company has to do is offer you more "goodies" for real money. No way! I'd rather pay $15.00 a month for a game in which the Devs will continue to improve on the game and fix things instead of turning it into what SWG is now, and into what EQ has become as well. "What? there are bugs? make an expansion then! to heck with the bugs" I'm no sucker pal!

so basically they seen how the failed to emulate Word of Warcraft and decided to emulate Guild Wars... Wow, they must have either retards or dubasses working there.

SOE is just sinking everyday. I honetsly hope they don't bring out a SWG2, they're trying their hardest to tarnish the name of a great franchise.

I believe a MMO is coming out called Archlord that's going to use Real life money trade for in-game items on top of monthly subscriptions. I guess greed is starting to take over the MMO world.

#14 Sep 01 2006 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
this might be a double post sorry for that.

SOE seen that the can't emulate WoW, so they're going to emulate Guild Wars. That's a smart move. Boy, they must have dumbasses or retards that work their.

In all honesty, if they were to make a SWG2 I won't play it, after how bad they shoved the ***** in us. Cause if they fuct us in SWG, they ***** us in SWG2.

Archlord is going to do the RL money thing for in game items on top of a monthly subscription fee as will. I gues SOE will try to emulate that as will.

Somebody needs to hack into their database and do a delete all and just them down.

So 1 stupid remark from 1 person represents us all. Listen, people say stupid things when they're angry. I know I fumed at everyone and anything when I realized a sorce of much enjoyment for me was being turned into something horrable. I know its a game but I spent much time and money building up not only my character but real friendships and communities. None of that meens a damn thing now, it's a crushing feeling.

But ne ways, purchasing content is a horrable idea, i know there will be those that disagree, there always are. Just listen for a sec. WHAT IS THE POINT OF AN MMORPG?! Is it logging on and handing a company $5 of ur hard earned money for a leet character? Well if u think so good for u I'm happy u enjoy ur SWG2.
I used to log on looking for the rush of a close battle, the puzzling storyline of a complex dungeon, in other words an adventure and its awsome rewards. But then again u wouldn't know how much sweater a sick *** loot is after u earn it. Now u can get the rush of having mad leet weapons and armor by ansking ur mommy for $10, good for u champ. If thats what u want, w/e its ur money, and if thats where SWG2 (if there are indeed plans for it) is headed, u will never see me there.

Seriously, what kinda game offers u rewards without playing it? Why spend ur REAL money on a game, where u have to spend more REAL money on DIGITAL weapons and armor? So u can gloat over the defeated....now thats pathetic.

/sigh

And to the devs making the game, I plan on one day having a career in game design/programming.....I already know how hard it is to program such simple games as pong.....so why would u spend so much time designing a game with such depth and beauty and give the option to forgo all that in return for cash? I know I would never take part in that, I would quit on the spot cause I take pride in what I make. I'm not ignorant, i know the point of your product is to make money, but don't u have soul? Is everyone at SOE a heartless sell out?
