Space TroubleFollow

I started doing some space missions for Yavin space station and I'm stuck:
I was suppose to follow a 'damaged ship' and they gave me some way points. I went to each waypoints (I never saw the 'damaged ship', so I didn't folow it) and the next thing I had to do was destroy some fighters that had ambushed me but THEY NEVER DID! And the only 'fighter' that I was able to find was the damaged ship so I destroyed it (according to my journal I had to; BUT first destroy the other fighters) and now I don't know what to do and I can't quit the mission and there are no waypoints!
Any idea?
