The Combat UpgradeFollow

#1 Jun 07 2006 at 4:13 PM Rating: Default
ok even though i have never played the pre combat upgrade version of the game i would still like to say something. The only reason i got this game is because of all the interesting things i looked up and was thinking of doing with the pre combat upgrade. Im sure that if I didnt see the cool stuff in the pre combat upgrade i would have never bought the game. Also i was expecting more of an RPG combat system then an FPS system i was thinking more of the combat system from guild wars (the one click system) Also i think it would be more fun to have more players in the game so like everyone else (even though i have never played the pre-combatupgrade version of the game) I think SOE should really change it back to the original game.

(Also I think instead of just complaining individually all the pissed off old swg players (and me) should form a huge group and take the fight right to SOE

(please tell me what you think)

Master, you got to remember, it is more than a game like Half-Life or Command & Conquer or even Final Fantasy. It is an MMO. I don't know if you did, but I put several thousand hours into this game and made a lot of good friends, as well as working my *** off to form two guilds and cities, as well as becoming a top administrator in another. This game became almost like a second life. And in two weeks, only two people I knew were still playing. That was a pretty big smack in the face.

i didnt mean anything personal, he asked what we thought, and thats what i think.
it doesnt matter what type of game it is to me, it will always be just a game, and i cant get worked up over a game.

Masterofwar, for me swg was my favourite thing, perhaps it did take up too much of my life on occasion, but it was fun. perhaps i did care too much about it, and forgot that it was just a 'game' as for this subject getting old, this particular subject is one that means the most to a lot of people, just take a look at the official website if you dont agree, 7 months on, and people still do not like the nge, the mechanics, or the direction the game is heading, the few positive posts are more to do with the quests that they introduced with the nge, however, even those are broke to some degree.
i think its because you care so little about the game, that you fail to understand the people who do. thats fine if your happy with the way things are, but are you ?

i never said im happy, this(cu) was the only game i played past the first month, my point is i cant get upset over a game.

again, i only posted what i did because he said he wanted to know what we thought.

he's also right though, some of us did become too emotionally tied up in the game, perhaps if we hadnt we wouldnt still be here complaining about how it was wrecked, but instead just be playing wow or something.

Guys I want you all to picture this:

Imagine your a huge fan of baseball, the game means the world to you, you've seen it rise and fall, with World Series, the Yankees, the lot.
Then imagine a CEO replacing it with a crappy copy of American Football (WoW rings a bell?), the teams gone, the heart of it has been crushed and it'll never be the same.

How would you feel?

There were over 500,000 people when SWG first launched, now there are only 40,000, now I probably only have around 5-10 close friends who play, I was pissed when CU came, I sent a virus to Smedly's PC even. But NGE was the killing blow, its like snatching away one of my most frequent hobbies. So please everyone, don't call MasterOfWar a loser for grieving over the loss of a pastime, if anything I can just say move on and play something else, but SWG will never come round the corner again.

definitely agree with Masterofwar on this one, there are some things that shouldnt be done, no matter what, i'll assume for the moment that its just immature boasting about the virus, rather than a real attempt at committing a real crime.

/sigh

Oh thanks, was just sticking up for you after the incident earlier. And the virus thing, I was only joking, but I did complain to him in a mail.
Oh wait, wrong guy, anyways I had too much to drink, I'm sorry, but is it me but did MoW only read the bit about the virus? Anyways I'm not arguing, I've got a huge hangover and I'm out of whack.

Just for the record, SWG was reported to have had closer to one million subscribers in the US around the time of launch, and is at this point the fourth highest game in terms of peak subscriptions in the US (With WoW, EQI, and FF XI being above it).

if they'd advertised the pre-cu version, they might have had something closer to the numbers they were after, with the NGE though, there isnt even a remote chance of obtaining those kinds of numbers.

its that kind of thing that makes SWG and, SOE/LA a laughing stock in the MMO community.

at least their servers can cope with the demand now, even if everyone logs on all at the same time, maybe even on the same server :D
