I haven't tried to get an inspiration buff since NGE came online back in Nov. Is it different than before? If so, what do I have to do...be invited to the group to get the buff?

you dont have to be in a group, but the entertainer has to 'inspire' you, just watching an entertainer is no use.
in a way it surprises me that people have stuck with the entertainer class, since the removal of battle fatigue etc, the profession of entertainer etc, is becoming less and less relevant to the game.

Since people can have 2 characters on the same server, they probably kept one or respected the new character to entertainer. You do get some beneficial stats and I pay 10K for each buff. Not sure what others pay, but it's a way to make money and then shift over to your main character.
