Well FFXI had recently jumped the bandwagon and made the first step in creating a more solo-friendly environment for players (by adding a NPC aid to adventure alongside with you)

Which stays for 20 minutes, and you can use every 24 hours, and if it dies on the second fight, you're screwed.

Anyway, the devs never really cared for this game. It was considered a failure, apparently. Its mostly because of marketing and advertisement, but either way, the subscribers was never anywher enear what EQPC, EQ2, FFXI or WoW have. An expansion for ps3? My guess is, hell no. New MMO from SOE for ps3? Maybe if they see money in it.

A new mmo for the ps3, I doubt it, with the ps3 capacity soe would be stupid to make one that isnt on computer as well. A few adaption to controls and EQ2 should be able to play on a console. If soe wants bsuiness they are better off with multi platform games instead of rely on one clent base.

evict us? the least they could is just abandon it to the players,i myself could enjoy the game without paying or worrying about who the GM is...if anything it would be more fun with no one making sure your following the rules..and i could quit hearing people telling eachother there gonna get reported.anyway thats my thoughts on what id like to happen.of course a new expansion would be really great but if not least they could do is not take what weve worked hard for.

There is no way in hell that they would just abandone it to the players, it would be stupid to think you could play it for free and with out GMs. SoE would still have to run the servers for it to still stay around, and that would cost money. Never gonna happen. It would never work out with no rules, it come down to like 5 people playing, who don't mind being constantly trained, harassed, kill stealed ect, very quickly.

NO MMORPS for the ps3 that sounds pretty off base.I heard that these MMORPGS were popular and considered to be one of the futures of the next gen consoles. Why they would not make any for ps3 is a strange thought.

It would be cool to see some sort of comfirmation on what sony plans to do as far as MMORPGs goes for the ps3.For me this is a selling point for a system if they are going to provide some sort of a decent MMORPG then I will gravitate that way.If XBOX 360 is going to pick up FFXI then I would think they plan on continueing to use it on ps3 as well.So even if EQ is abandoned 6 months after its release at least FF will still be around.Regardless it will probably be another two years or so before EQ dies and that is a long time to play even if the end is known to be coming.

In FFXI a npc that dies and your screwed or only lasts for 20 minutes and then not usable again for 24 hours is not that great of a solo option. The Devs have to realize that soloing needs to be a viable option for these games even if you do gain xp much slower etc.Sometimes in any of these games it is time consuming waiting to get a group and when you do it may not be a very good one.The other players may be all jerks or maybe not very helpful etc.I am not saying that happens all the time but I have seen this problem enough to know that it exists to the point of being a legitimate problem.IF WOW is pushing the matter of making it more solo friendly then we can hope that they have other games follow that idea in the future.

WoW is done almost purely solo, grouping is only done in certain areas to get harder mobs killed. Other games have tried to follow suit, but FFXI just miserably failed. Square can make good games, they have before, but MMOs just aren't they're thing.

Well the rumor was soe was planning on a comic book type mmorpg general thoughts were leaning to city of heroes but after they just announced SOE just bought the rights to DC comics in the video game department then looks like were going to be seeing a DC universe mmorpg. Plus they also own the rights to The matrix online so who knows.

eqoq will not get phased out so plz stop worrying win eqoa came out did eq stop working no you can still use old eq if you dont have fronts i know on clw are server is packed and the reason its so hard to get eqoa now is because of the population this came right from zhatias mouth herself

Just to point out why eq was not effected by eqoa, it is a PC game. They are totally different platforms. People who already played eq1 already had a more indepth game, eqoa was made just to attract console users. But attracting just console users is a dead end it limits the number of players.

EQOA isnt rare in stores because of the number of players. The game sold well in the begining, but the sales grew flat. Only so many people are interested in the game, so the only disks sold are for replacment of scratched disks and the occassional new player. Stores dont want to waste space on something that will only sell one or two a year. Game cards are probably the same way, not enough people buy them for the store to make money carrying them.

Sure it will when the system is gone or the money stops rolling in due to the next big thing coming out. It is a fact it happens when dreamcast came out with phantasy star online they had at there high point 500,000 players which is a serious amount of console players. System died they kept the servers going as long as possible then stoped. They came out with it on xbox and gamecube but there is maybe 5% of the players that dreamcast had due to way better and more interesting games out there.

That is even easier to explain, we are in the same game world. The stoped making EQOA, all they made after frontiers release is frontiers, if you look at the updates, they are 90% for frontiers players, and the updates that happened for regular eqoa wasnt for them. The updates were just in the shared world so non frontiers players got them.

In all truth EQOA non-frontiers is dead burried and nothing but a rotten corpse for SOE.

Hello,

I'm in the agreement that eqoa will be phased out when the ps3 comes out. I played eqoa for a long time b4 switching over to ffxi.

The talk among the japanese players on my ffxi server is that SOE is planning to come out with an EQ2 port for the ps3. This was decided because SE's decision to bring ffxi to the xbox 360. SoE did not want to be dependent on SE for its only mmorpg for ps3. Even though many of the hign-end (lvl capped) players laugh bout the new influx of noob 360 players that will enter our world, the idea of a ready made massive mmorpg like EQ2 has gotten much talk from NA, JP and Euro players.

For those dreaded the pahsing out of eqoa, don't. Eqoa has had a great run for a console-only mmorpg. It could never realistically match up to a PC mmorpg in terms of sheer memberships. Phoenix server on ffxi at any given time of the day will have 4000 players logged on. 4000 players on 1 of 32 servers, that is a lot.

So, think about it. If SOE does port EQ2 to the ps3 eqoa would pretty much put put aside. There is always the chance eqoa won't get phased out. For now matter how successful or unsuccessful eqoa has been, SOE still gains money from subscribers. Money is money.

I'm planning to come back to eqoa as a way to take a break from the day to day drama of ffxi.

No what you dont understand is frontiers was an expansion, it uses the same world as eqoa. It was not a new game, just the new stuff and what the updates focus on. Also, no one ever said eqoa would not be playable on the ps3. The ps3 is backwards compatable like the ps2 is. That means as long as soe wants to keep the servers up, the game will be playable. But that is the point of this thread, why would SOE support eqoa when eq2 and wow would be better to have for the ps3.

I agree with you,I think there will always be at least one or two MMORPGS on each system just because there is a demand there. They want everyones money and a few thousand people willing to pay a monthly of 12.99 a pop will still warrent the continuation of such games.I think ps3 will probably do a EQ2 version later on down the road.I heard XBOX 360 was looking at doing a WOW adaption so I do not think we will that on ps3 but who knows. Then there is also PSO coming out in feb as well.

There are still people finding older copies of non frontiers eqoa out there and giving it a try.Considering they can just buy the game and start playing it for like 20 bucks compared to having to buy an HDD/FFXI bundle. If they like it I they can track down a copy of frontiers.

Eqoa and frontiers are not readily available at most stores but I am sure some stores would special order you a copy if you asked. On the alakazam main page there are links for ordering all the MMMRPGS WoW,FFxI,EQ,EQ2 and frontiers.

no i was just saying they cannnot make a eq 3 exspansion yes but to make a whole new game means you cant transfer your chars to thats what i was getting at
#50 Jul 27 2005 at 5:44 PM Rating: Decent
That friggin sucks that eq will fade out because i was about to buy it because i have a character at my friends and now i wont beable to play if they take the servers down
#51 Jul 27 2005 at 8:16 PM Rating: Good
as others have said it will still be atleast a couple of years till the game fades out. If you have friends that play and want to play with them go ahead and play. It is not that expensive and is an enjoyable game. Play have fun, when you are done, just like any other game move on.
