Your combat level moves up according to how many skills you learn, as long as they are combat professions anyway. If you master two combat professions then you get level 80 which is the highest.

Armour protects you in varying degrees against attacks. You'll find some armour protects you from some attacks better then others, and they vary in quality depending on who built them. You probably can't wear your armour because your character is either not a high enough level, or you're character can't use it because of its profession (bounty hunters can wear composite, swordsman can wear battle armour etc)

Each server has different places people go to hunt. If you see a massive group of people, shout out "Looking for Group!". If not, tell a high level person that you are new, and politely ask where people hunt on this game. Is he has helper over his head he should be nice, and occasionally you meet nice guys who'll give you something for free too. When I first started a nice guy gave me 50k, and an animal mount to help me. Don't demand or beg though as people will think you're trying to exploit them.

Ya you get a higher combat level when you learn combat realted skills. But to get CL 80 you need to master 2 elite combat professions, master brawler and master marksman won't do it.

To wear armor you need novice in an elite combat profession. And the type of armor you can wear depends on which profession you have. There is Battle, Recon and Assult armor. The different kinds, like Composite, Ubese, etc... only matter for looks, the stats should be pretty close to the same. The stats are dependant upon the skill of the armorsmith who made it and the quality of materials used.

The Dantooine Mining outpost seems to be a pretty popular place, no matter which server you are on. So try there.

how many professions can i have mastered?

they number of professions you can get depends on the skill points that you use. in the profession skill tree, each box will let you know how may skill points it takes to learn. you have a total pool of 250 to use, so choose wisely if you want to be able to master a profession.

general rule of thumb, you can master two elite professions and have a little bit left over to grab another skill.

You look at the profession tree also to see what type of armor you're allowed to wear. if you click on the box for any novice elite combat profession, you'll notice that on the lower right of that window, it tells you what type of armor you can wear.

and to reiterate what he said earlier, the mining outpost on dantooine is really good when looking for a grinding group. just a little bit difficult to find a group at lower levels.
