Hi everyone I'm thinking about purchasing SWG. The problem is I only have a 56k connection and I was wondering if it is possible to play SWG on a 56k connection and if there is anyone here currently playing SWG on a 56k connection and how good it works?

First I will say that if you are able to get high speed then count yourself lucky and get it because I can't even get it in my area )=. But you could try the game on dial up and see if you like it first. Not all lag comes from a slow connection. If you have a good video card and a lot of ram like 1 gig then you could play on dial up. Dial up connections vary a lot too so it is hard to say. I would suggest trying the game and judging what you need from how well it runs--that is what I did. Bad news is that I discovered I needed new everything hehe. So I think my answer is that the game depends more on ram and video card than it does internet connection.

Yeah go ahead and get the game, the Total Experience is only $30 and you get a free month so if it sucks, don't renew your account.

I read in another thread that you're from Alberta. Me too yay!
Ok, have you called Telus and had them check if you can get DSL from them? I know that some of my friends out of town can and some can't. It depends on the physical wires going to your house. They are gradually upgrading all of their infrastructure province wide but it could take a while for them to get to your area.
So call and check, it can't hurt. I beleive the number is 310-4NET but I could be wrong.
Cheers

Hi my fellow Albertanian. Ok telus is ****** up. About 5 different times telus has phoned my house asking us if we wanted to upgrade or 56k connection to a DSL connection and we of course say yes. They say we'll have the modem in a couple of weeks. But every time right before we are suppose to recieve the modem telus phones us and tells us they made a mistake and we can't get DSL in our area. The last time they said they'll contact us when DSL in available. Still waiting for the phone call :P. Guess I could give them a call, probably still can't get it though.

Ya Telus sucks but unfortunatly it's the only game in town. I was continually having problems with my connection, being disconnected several times a day and having to reset the modem and sometimes having to reboot the computer as well. It's been OK for the last few days though, hope it stays that way. If I had a choice I'd switch but I'm stuck. My brother moved to Edmonton and got cable, he has much better service. It's better than dial up however.

I live in Barrhead, that's an hour and a half NW of Edmonton. I've been to Vegerville before. Just can't recall what for...
