probably a stupid questionFollow

This is probably a stupid question but can u only get levels by training with NPCs? Becuase I had a player character train me in carbines 1, pistols 1 and combat 1 but i stayed at combat lvl 3. When i had an NPC train me in rifles 3 i gained two combat lvls, going from 3 to 5. Is this supposed to happen or is there something wrong?

first off there are no stupid questions when a game this indepth comes with a 32 page manual. (arg)

second to answer your question. you will not gain a level every time you train a skill. this is especcially true when training the novice profession(i.e. marksman,brawler) Once you get into your elite professions the levels will start to come a little faster.

Training whether it be from NPC's or other players has NO bearing on your combat level.
