hi everyone, im a former ffxi player (as you can tell by my sig) and i am going to start playing SWG, ive heard different things about it and i wanted to try it out... i do have a few questions though.. im sure these have been asked and answered before, but id appreciate answers.

1. which server should I pick? im on the east coast of the usa if that matters.. and i dont really care about pvp if that matters.

2. what planet/city should i start out in? I plan on starting as a human artisan because most people ive read said you should start as an artisan to get some money together to start out with, so which planet/city would be best for that?

3. can someone explain to me the experience points system? im kind of confused.. i know theres a whole lot of types of experience (force xp, crafting xp, rifle xp, etc) but do u gain more if you shoot an enemy with a rifle 10 times instead of 5 or is it based on the enemy? also do u get regular xp so your character levels up? if so how many levels are there?

4. I know from studying up on the subject that becoming a Jedi is very very difficult, how long do most people play before becoming a padawan? also how long does it take to get the force experience to advance to the next jedi level?

any other information any of you would give starting players I would be happy to hear. I'm not new to mmorpgs but I am new to SWG, so dont hesitate to tell me something you think I should know, because I probably dont.

Welcome to SWG

1.Most peeps here play Bria, but I like scylla, it has a middle population, good pvp and pve, low prices compared to other servers, and for the most part cool people.
2.If you start artisan, than coronet, that is the big trade center, but if you start on Scylla and /t celica hey then I can hook you up with some money, no prob helping alla users.
3. You use a rifle, you gain rifle exp, craft a weapon, crafting exp, use a pistol, pistol exp, and if you use a weapon, you get combat exp with the weapon exp that you used. You use experience to gain skills.
4.To be a jedi it takes about 1month from once you get armor, and a master combat prof, with a good weapon. Jedi aren't as great as people think they are, so I am a bh and have no idea how long it takes to level one, but with Kashyyk out (the wookie planet) it is easier for jedi to grind.

Don't sell your BARC speeder for under 5mil. My ingame name is celica on scylla server, lemme know if ya need anything.

thanx for the info celica.. if i go to your server ill definately look you up :)

couple more questions.. whats a BARC speeder? thats probably a noob question but oh well.. also isnt 5mil a lot? i dont know how the economy works on swg, maybe a couple examples of what stuff costs would help..

also, if i choose not to be a jedi for some reason, any tips on what are fun to play? you mentioned bounty hunter, can u explain that a bit?

thanx again

It will talk a lot longer than a month from when you get armor to get jedi. It will probably take you a month just to qualify to start down the path to jedi, ie. get glowy.
Once you are glowy you have to do the village quests to unlock your force sensative branches. There are 4 branches and each village quest is on a 3 week rotation, so a new quest every 3 weeks. So if you complete the quest on the first day of the phase you have to wait 3 weeks to do the next one.
So that's 1 month to get glowy, although if you know what your doing you can do this a lot faster. Then 3 months to unlock 4 branches and then you can start your padawan quest. Once you complete this you are a jedi padawan. Then you have to do the padawan trials and the long grind to jedi really begins.
So I don't blame you for not wanting to do it. I quit after unlocking 3 branches.

A BARC speeder is probably the best speeder in the game right now and you can only get it by buying the Total Experience. 5 million is a lot but there are people who have a whole lot more than that. But it took them a long time to get it. On one of my toons I have about 6.5 mil and it took me over 8 months to get it, but I wasn't grinding for money all the time. I had more but I started grinding shipwright and I spent a lot (maybe 5 mil) on resources. Now I can probably get 1 million on about a month but that is playing at least 6 hours every day.
On some servers the BARC is going for close to 10 million so it is a good way to get set up as a newb. You certianly won't have to worry about money for a while, unless you go on a crazy shopping spree and buy all the rare items you can find.
