Be grateful. ;) My RL friends account just got stolen. The dude logged on and chilled on his characters, then deleted every single one of them.

Because you used a username/password combo that was easy to figure out, it's Sonys fault?!?!?!? How's that work? Yea, the situation sucks, but Sony didn't create the problem. Consider yourself lucky that you got your account back, with all of your characters intact.

Well, if you never gave it out to anybody, and presumably you play behind a firewall, how did they *hack* into your account?

Yet
Earlier you wrote:

So, did you or didn't you? Also, by the title of your thread, you must've gotten back in since you said, "things were stolen."

Yeah his story is quite a bit confusing. At first I thought he was saying that someone stole his account but he luckily got it back. Then he tricked me into thinking its not back yet. Now I think it is back again...godamn!

What does that matter, it is not their responsibility to provide security, it is yours. Just because you dont bother to make the effort to secure your system doesnt mean anyone else has anything to do with it but yourself.

You said yourself that you play this account at a relatives house and not yours. Now I'm not trying to judge your family but, that is where I would start.

I meant Hacked Accounts, Stolen Things.. as if someone had theres stolen as well and no relatives arent the thing I sign into it everytime..I dont keep it saved. How is it my responsibility to have protection on my ps2? Im thinking someone is breaking into (the Station) and getting information from there.. or somewhere else because I never hardly ever used the station. Sony is reinbursing me as well so im not to worried about it now. 6 accts were stolen the day mine was and they oblige to fix it "Sony knows of the problem and is addressing it"

I dont see why hackers think its kewl to mess with peoples "game" accounts its just a game, if i had half the talent that hackers do i would be using it to make my bank account explode with cash =)...well not really but yea IMO hackers suck =P

I can't help but wonder if SOE website isn't helping in this rash of 'hacked accounts'!?!?!?

If you're using your same account name and password on SOE login as you do for your ps2 login, and IF someone has found a way to SNIFF packets, bingo, there's your answer!

I dunno... just guessing/wondering... All I know is that what I just described is not impossible, improbable maybe, but not impossible.

I think sing got it to the dime. The majority (if not all) of hacked accounts are probably because people use their accunt/password from EQoA on The Station. Computer Hacks are endless and even a noob hacker could get your info.

I was just on SOE's site posting the Warrior 13,15,20 quest walkthruz, becuz zippoheads there like to lead peeps astray with bad info.

Anywayz.... I just went thru the first time sign ordeal SOE puts ye thru. Itz SOE's fault if peeps are using thier login name and password they use on thier PS2 login to EQOA!!!!! SOE misleads you, so to speak, they make you think you need to your EQ login info to sign up for thier web service! And the real bite is this.... YOU DO HAVE TO USE IT for the first time!!!! After a successful login, you should be able to change the password, just not the name. I would suggest you do change your password!

A packet sniffer could catch some info being exchanged between you and SOE.

BTW... Maybe I missed it..but no where does SOE says they are using a SECURE sever!!! Bad SOE Bad!

Diclaimer.... If you *** **** up... don't come bak b1tching me out!

:)

This stinks, I got my account stolen too. I tried to register at the SOE station to use the boards and the next day I couldn't login on my account. I used my username and password at the station login but it didn't work. I suspected my account got stolen there but i couldn't believe it.

Ok, my buddie just emailed me back.... he ran a packet-sniffer directed at SOE's website. He says, "he saw my username" when I logged on, but that my password was scrabled! The funny thing is, he had to know the exact time I was logging on so he could run his packet-sniffer!!!! Hehe!!! I dunno... he and I are amatuers at this sorta thing, however, there are peeps out there WAY better than us, and with better appz then he has!

So, I still say your info could be had there on SOE's site! But, for the expertise one would need, and, be a EQOA addict too, just seems too far-fetched!

And still, I see no info that says SOE's site resides on a secure server!
