Let me give an unbiased opinion from someone who has been playing to the point of master commando. The game itself (excluding bugs) is incredible. The graphics and movement cant be beat. There is however a flaw in the game, that if not addressed, will be the end of SWG. Im talking character development. All of us RPG heads know that one of the most important, if not THE most important aspect, of any RPG is character development. In the 4 months that Ive been playing SWG, Ive had a blast. I kept hoping they would extend the skill tree or better yet, redevelope (sp?) the entire structure. After I maxed Commando, I had nowhere to go. So I made him a comm/medic/CH. Yes, the missions are repetitive, and raiding 10 enemy bases with no chance of takeover was frustrating. But these problems will be fixed with time. I havent heard one thing about char development. The fact that no one is even addressing this major issue just leads me to believe its a done deal. Almost my entire guild on Eclipse has left the game. I will be keeping tabs on how this turns out, but cannot justify the 15.99 a month just to have "chat room" access with amazing graphics. Im throwing down the guantlet to SOE. Youve got a game with amazing potential. Pull your heads out and finish the job. Make me a SWG player again.

I really Do think Most SWG players feel like this. I just finnished the free trail and might wait some time before starting again. The grinding system has created a hudge void!!!
Sad to say I have seen the game take a downword turn.

I DO HOPE SOE IS LISTENING!!!!!

Some one else whining about and awsome game. You played the game and mastered one profession and then call the game shallow. Man there is so much stuff in this game its unbelieveable don't limit yourself to customer one profession, and threatening to quite the game is nothing new. Leave, players don't want to here you whining anyways. And don't try to speak for all swg players. I have played the game sence release and still loving it.

I do think the original post has made some good points. I will say SWG is a good game but not so sure it's a great game. I do think it need some tweeking.

I started from day one Almost all my waypoints in my datapad didn't have the right house or vendor because they have all left the game. I play as a dancer so I've seen and met most people on my server. The Great players on my server were lucky enough to get a spot in my datapad that I would pass on their waypoints to people I met. I'm sure I helped them out greatly!!!

On the free trail I had trouble finding players I new because they have all quit. These players were some of the best on the server and real hard core SWG players.

I do see a trend that people are quiting in droves!!!! Why would SOE give a free trail to previous players. That's right previous players there just might be a few of us kicking around. Most of my guild quit. I didn't see any high level or full ratings on server availabilty most were low.

I just hope SOE is listening and working to improve the game or there just might not be a SWG game to play and that would be a shame. You need players for SWG to work. I see the free trail as a red flag and things are not well in the Star Wars Galaxies.

what i want to know is why all these incredibly rude and disrespectful [people are bad mouthing people that are making points. and the fact that they have high ratings makes me wonder whos *** theve been kissing. he was simply stating points that alot of people will agree with and you had to talk to him like that. AND YOU HAVE A RATING OF 4.00 WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, I can tell you why 50% of the ppl are leaving, BECUZ THEY ARE ALL MOVING TO BRIA SERVER! no one on bria is leaving, My only friend that left was one out of like 25 on my list, and i think thats cuz he lost his internet connection. I think u just need to choose population size servers better. When one person leaves on a small server it seems a big deal, on Bria if one leaves it is replaced almost immediately. It is one happening place...

And Sydus... when ur rating is almost 2... i dont think anyone will listen to you..

And are you saying we have no right to flame our opinion? didnt he make an awesome point about ABCS he only mastered one elite profession, his experience in the game is minimal compared to hardcore players.

Have you tried *their* forums?

SOE probably isn't listening, they don't make a habit out of browsing Alla's forums (as far as I know).

Nimrod is a hunter from the bible, a descendent of Noah. In one Warner Bros. cartoon, Bugs Bunny called Elmer Fudd a "poor little Nimrod". That's one theory how the term came to be (mis)understood as an insult and revived in the 80's. However, Random House Dictionary cites nimrod being used as derogatory as far back as the 1930's. Neat, huh?

Don't let the ratings fool you, they don't mean much here.

I don't know, I do think ABCS has some points that are valid. I myself am a Jedi, I have a LONG game life ahead of me but not everybody is like me. Everybody is different. Some people are happy to just be Armoursmiths who try and get their name out there in the galaxy as one of the top people to go too. Some like to be Chef's. Some want to just do everything they can in the game. I have mastered a ton of professions and i will say that i loved commando but there is still a lack of something to do after you find what character you want to play. I think RPG'ing is what you make of it. I am not an RPG person but know some. They take things very serious. If you raid a base and kill everybody, you should be able to take it over, i agree. Obviously the game is not ready for this but when i Master Jedi ( And i will ) I wonder what else i will do... As far as i can tell, nothing but avoiding Bounty Hunters. You have over 250,000 people playing this game and they are all different. Trying to get one happy medium is very hard if not impossible. If i was you ABCS, i might try some other professions. You may find something else you like but i agree that there is not much more after you master a profession other then dropping it. I may have 34 different trails i can take in the woods behind my house but if they are only 100 feet long, eventually i will walk them all and then i am left with same old trails i have walked before. I would rather have a 20 mile long trail that was always different then 34 trails that were only 100 foot long. Some people are happy to sit at the end of one trail, i need something new.

I'm not trying to feed the trolls!!!
I post here to try and improve the game in the hopes of maybe someone at SOE is listening. (I know it might be wishful thinking but maybe there is a very small chance SOE might see the post.) There just might be someone at SOE that has half a brain.

See I do not want to settle for beef when SWG has a chance to be PRIME RIB!!!

We cannot post any constructive criticism on their boards!!! They
use the force and they disappear.

Maybe they are too busy sorting through dumb tickets people keep sending them. Not to sure but I bet they must get thousands of them.

For all those people who want to say, "How great this game is." Please go and post on the SWG Board your voice will be heard there. They love you over there. I like to post here because all voices are heard!!!!

PLEASE SOE START LISTENING!!!!!

I have been playing for about 5 months on Shadowfire. I've been involved in PVP, mastered a few professions, and been about halfway through a few other professions. The game has been fun, but it is starting to wear a little thin. I also have seen half my PC stop playing. I'm not sure where the game is going, or what SOE is going to do to try to prolong the life of SWG like they have with EQ, but they need to do something soon.

Typically, prime rib is beef.

Ok, I'm afraid I have to side with Horothon on this one. Granted on one server my little outpost all left (admittedly made up of my impatient friends who burned too hot and fast and got discouraged when they didn't accomplish everything overnight), but on my other main server the population I see has been rapidly growing.

Here's my theory:
Stage 1.) this is the inevitable harrowing of an online RPG. At the start EVERYONE and their sister who sees any interest in the game (including fps super-fans, with no patience for RPG's, and only saw Star Wars in the title) **Note: I am not implying that all fps fans are that way, I like fps' myself** buys the game and joins up.

Stage 2.) those who rediscover their lack of patience, or just find they don't enjoy the game (that IS ok you know), leave. This is ok to me, and I'll tell you why ===>

Stage 3.) the people left in the game, want to be there. As a result the community is happier. Maybe not as titanicly huge, but happy. When only the people who enjoy the game are left, we'll have a truely fun RPG.

And from everything I've seen SOE has been working their collective *sses off to improve the game, in fixing bugs, adding dynamics, and improving the gameplay. Its not happening overnight, and it probably will never be perfect (an unrealistic expectation), but I for one, would like to salute the hard work they have done, and will do in the future.

This does not mean we should not voice our interests in changes, fixes and improvements. In fact, how can SOE meet our hopes and wants if we don't tell them. But the community is not universally united in a single view point. So long as the discussions are carried out in a mutually respectful manner, it can only be good for the game.

/endRant

(ouch, sorry, I got a little carried away) =)

All of the explanations I have read point to the same handful of possibile origins. Here's a good response I found via Google.

When I tell people that I love etymology and epistemology, they think I'm talking about bugs.

Well here's my POV...

There are alot of people in the world who cannot physically have much of an outside social life, me being one of them. My physical inabilities tend to keep me inside, and my social life suffers likewise. of course, I have some friends and I do go out occassionally (I.E. college classes, church, dinner), but I don't go to the club or hangout at the mall or go to the many social functions that most can easily do.

But, there is one thing, part of a larger group.

And that is SWG. In-game, I can be a part of something. I can have friends, albeit virtually. It is an escape.

just my two cents.

See what people dont understand and they sing this "there leavin in droves!!" song (god this cliche's has just been beat into the ground alreay on more board than one) daily on EQOA forums too, a much more stable yet simple game. That games still going and has despite the claims more customers after its xpac. They warned of how "players leaving in droves" but what people fail to realize is when this supposed mass exudous takes place theres also a drove of people going out to buy the game to replace the drove that left it. I'm sure people made the claim about Diablo2 and diablo1 for that matter "there leavin in droves!" but the both still play on..

No ones gonna like SWG forever you should know this when you buy the game that you will eventually get tired of it like any other game. Of course people are gonna leave it. What I'm trying to say is... Who cares. You think its gonna make sony go bankrupt cause some guild got disgruntled? They have money saved up I imagine in some sock drawer when a drove decides to make the attempt to tear them down finacially.

Indeed, I hardly believe SOE's suffering over the loss of customers in ONE of their games.

/claps to Alavance. . . I am more moved than I have been from any other post on any other forum by your post. I can semi-relate to that. The thing is, mmorpgs are more than just games, they are communitys. I guess this forum is one too. . .in both worlds though. . .unfortunatly there are those people who will ruin it for others. These poeple are slowly leaving SWG though *yay*. Thanks Alavance. . .Your post really moved me. By the way, I am a wookie in SWG not a trandoshan. . .
