I'm about to master bounty hunter and have few skill points left over. So far it's been suggested I use these extra skill points on either carbine or pistol skills. Looking for a good argument on which would be better and why.

Well, that would work if your main goal is PVP in the GCW. If you want to know a good carbine template I used 0-3-2-1 on the novice carbine tree to get some extra defense and the knockdown.
