The mandatory dungeon quest comes after you get the airship pass so you can get out of Limsa without doing any group content. In fact the quest you get right after the airship pass sends you to the 2 other cities.

What do you have leveled? Seriously, as healer, you pretty much will only have to heal the tank. As tank, just mark the target you want people to kill, and move it as one mob dies. Tell your DPS to focus on one at a time. As DPS, just assist the tank. If you're on Ultros, I'll be happy to run it with you. I have a tank and healing class above 15.

We can put together a group so you won't have any performance anxiety. I have a DPS and Healer above 15 also.

I think he's on a JP server. But for what it's worth, I have a Conjurer over 15. :P

That said, those early dungeons are specifically designed with the idea of teaching you basic mechanisms. You don't need to be anxious about them, because they're designed for you to not have to be doing much of anything to win.

Roll a dps, just sort of follow after your tank. Attack whatever he/she is attacking. You're good.

No need to worry about not pulling your weight or anything like that; these aren't heroic dungeons. They're actually less difficult than a lot of the Fates I've been in (largely because you actually have someone tanking/healing, but still).

[EDIT]

It's probably worth noting that I say this as someone who used to get performance anxiety back in the earlier days when I played WoW.

But to be clear - the chances of you wiping on this content are nearly nothing. And short of running WAY ahead of the pack you're fighting, you can't seriously mess up.

You're in LL, so you're either a tank or a DPS. If you're an Arcanist, take your pet off auto-cast and then just calmly DPS. You don't need to go all out or stress about it; it's not that kind of content. If you're a tank, bind a mark to a button you can hit, tell your party to focus fire on that target, and then just occasionally throw some attacks onto the other mobs to cover the healer enmity generation.

And if a DPS or the healer takes threat, no biggy. The mobs don't do much damage.

Really, just treat the other players like they're NPCs. It's that sort of content.

So I've been grinding this level 41 dungeon, trying to get gear for my next big fight, which is a level 44 fight. I ended up getting a sword and a pair of pants from it. Eventually, I hit 45 and my job quest gave me 4 blue armor pieces, so I really just didn't have to spend all that time grinding it out. Of course, now I know it like the back of my hand, so there's that. The story dungeons are really quite toned down from the optional ones, from what I've seen. Sunken Temple of Qarn (35) takes more coordination than Stone Vigil (41) by far.

Also, dragon bosses are ******* boring. Can't stun 'em, can't Pacify 'em. Can't dodge the conal breath. Just stand there and spam your rotation, and toss out some Cures after the big breath attack. Ho hum.

It's probably for the best that optional fights are harder. When I ended up in the pit to face Ifrit, all I could think was REALLY? Fight Ifrit or get stuck here?

Mostly because I was laughably undergeared, not having done a non-story quest in 5 levels or so. Had I been a tank or DPS, I still would have felt bad.

But at that difficulty level, it's not something to stress about. The Sahagin boss guy from the pirate dungeon was harder than Ifrit, for the most part. Though phase 2 of Ifrit was super stressful on my second party through it (DCed after we won on first), since people weren't avoiding AoE and they were already at half life from the unavoidable AoE.

Though it also made me feel badass as a healer. Smiley: lol

You aren't really stuck there. There is an NPC off to the side near a pool of water, he tells you that in the water is an underground passage out, and that if everyone tried to escape that way they'd be caught, but one person could slip out and go find some help. You can use that NPC to go back to Camp Drybone (presumably to get a group of people to go kick Ifrit's ***). Then there is an NPC in Camp Drybone that will send you back to the cave when you talk to him.

Don't get me wrong, we've still wiped on the Stone Vigil fights. My first run, we wiped 3x on the second boss, and 2x on the last one, but their mechanics all boil down to "avoid the ****".

Actually, you can just teleport or return your way out of the pit and use the Duty Finder to get back.

Yeah I am on Durandal. I have every job over the level of the dungeon except archer and marauder. I was thinking I would go CON because I don't want to wait forever in the DPS line and I'd rather run the dungeon before I tank it. I was just worried cause targeting for healing seems pretty dodgy. Thanks for the encouragement, I just hate sucking -.-

I appreciate that you guys would group up with me, that's sweet.

Also it doesn't really matter, but I am a she.

F1-F8 work for targeting your party, in order of the list (F1 for yourself, F2 for the next one and so forth) like in FFXI.

Also, you can queue on a DPS class, and then change class while waiting. So you could queue on Arcanist or something, and then go fish until it pops. Then you just have to change back to whatever you queued as before accepting.

And on the PS3, your up and down keys automatically move through the party list, making it pretty easy.

And left and right move through enemies.

I still feel the Gamepad is better than a standard Mouse/Keyboard alone.

Edit:
Only one other person is in the LS. You guys should be getting some last minute playing in!

Huh, I forgot it was 5 PM PST, not EST. Maybe I will log on, then. I just walked in from work 10 or so minutes ago.

[EDIT]

1017, 1017, 1017, 1017, etc.

Not worth it for a max of 1.5 hours of play.

Yeah.

I got my MRD from 13 to 16 while at work today, got some story quests in, and am ready for my next big fight (Garuda). Watched some videos of it, so we'll see how it goes. I think whatever the next MMO I play is, I want to make a group with friends who won't look anything up about a fight, and go in and try to learn how to beat them on our own. I think that sounds fun. Of course, since I just love leveling and rarely sleep, I blow through the level grind and run with PUGs. And you can't very well join a PUG and be like "I don't know anything about this fight and I don't want to," and especially not as a tank. Smiley: lol

I figured that with the maintenance starting in a little over an hour that I might actually get to log in today for a bit. Nope, I still can't even get on the damn queue.

Maybe being 1 hour til the maintenance they are not unlocking the log ins as people log out? I'm in and everything is noticeably relatively empty. Lots of people but not nearly as much as this weekend.

I spent an hour and a half or so working out, and ate dinner.

And now my evening is pretty much up, because I should really be going to bed in the next half hour. I hate when workout days coincide with days of particularly bad traffic...

Guess I'll read until bed...

I'm starting Power 90 with a friend on Monday. Should be good stuff. I'm too out of shape to go through P90X. I'd probably blow out a knee.

Ha, have fun with that.

I've been mostly doing strength training. Though I should really work more cardio back into my routine...
