Full story's on the front page, but here's the main point:

Quote:
It looks like animal rights activism has found its way into the World of Warcraft. This Saturday at 1 p.m. EST, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is inviting players on the WhisperWind server to meet in Howling Fjord and combat a team of four Horde seal killers. According to the group, Thrall has refused to ban the slaughter of seals, so it's up to Alliance activists to stop them.

This event goes along with PETA's efforts to urge the Olympic Committee to help end the Canadian seal slaughter. According to the group, sealers will beat and skin up to 338,200 seals this year.

So what do you think? Cool idea? Waste of time? Is it just going to be bombarded by players killing the seals instead?

You have to be kidding. PETA wants to stop virtual players from killing virtual animals? Well, I guess if Jack Thompson can spout his insanity, the rest of them aren't too far behind. :)

Are they also going to objectify virtual females in bikinis by putting them in cages to try and prove a point? Otherwise it's not really PETA at it's best. *rolls eyes*

I predict a mass genocide of the pinnipeds on said day.

I just wish that I could see and hear the event as it unfolds. :(

What's the difference between your mom and a seal?

PETA doesn't care when I beat your mom.

I want a mage baby seal poly so it becomes that much more satisfying to break CC.

Killing penguins, sheep and turtles is fun and all but baby seal...

That would be awesome.

PLEASE say WhisperWind is PvP. If it is, oh man, who is with me for rolling a bunch of DKs for some "Slaughter-PETA-Not-Animals!" fun?

Unless I'm mistaken, Whisperwind is PvE.

It may be a PVE server, but they will have to flag themselves if they are planning on killing those horde :)

Sounds like an invitation for world pvp...

You have no idea how much I miss town raids.

Tarren Mill and Southshore... I visited the area recently, the carpet of bones that covered the path between the two towns isn't there anymore.

Well, I went into tarren mill and found a level 80 in there and killed him, I guess he's the last honorable kill I'm getting from there.

As a WoW player who also supports PETA, I think it's a pretty cool idea. I won't be doing it though because:

A) I'm not on that server

and

B) I have no characters high enough to go to Northrend anyway.

But I wish them the best of luck.

But we Canadians love our beavers and seals, even more so when we can wrap them around us to keep our bits warm at night....

If this is sponsored by Blizzard, then the 4 horde will probably be stronger than usual. Otherwise, it doesn't take but 4-20 alliance players at 80 to take them out..ok maybe 30-40.

Besides the interruption into the fantasy world, I don't like it because it again implies that Horde are evil. Horde are not evil per se ... just not Alliance. Everyone thinks his enemy is evil, and Horde are thought of as such by some people, but that's not the case, really. However, PETA's event will reinforce that misconception.

Isn't PETA the evil one?

In my opinion, participation in groups that use violence to object to violence should be punishable by death.

Not for justice or revenge, but to weed those who are utterly incapable of logical reasoning out of the gene pool.

I predict a massive skyrocket in the price of these on the Whisperwind server.

It would be great, if all the lunatics; peta, alf, elf, etc, and the morons who fund them exploded tomorrow.

WOW is a game. PETA is a political organization. Blizzard is making a serious mistake if they start to combine the two.

I wish I hade a high level horde character on WhisperWind server. I would so go PETA hunting.

I actually thought about a transfer for this but it is not worth that.
