Its been along time coming but according to the 3.0.8 PTR Patch notes mining nodes will only require 1 hit to get all the delicious ore and gems from them Smiley: grin.

This is great news!!!

I wonder how much whining in general this will cause. I cant go 15 minutes with out someone running up after I started a node and trying to snag it out from under me.

I wonder if this will affect the price>?

Im betting so. I guess i will have to figure out a different way to make money now:(

Possibly. Since Rich nodes are few and far between, you're really only saving 5-15 seconds off the time it takes to harvest a node. It's a bit faster, but most miners will tell you the real time involved in mining is the time between nodes. In order for it to affect the price, you'd have to see a much larger supply of ore.

I don't sell ore. I prospect it or make gear with it. Slightly faster mining is win-win for me. :D

On a side note have any of you had nodes in icecrown just disappear right in front of you? I have had it happen several times and came up with a theory that people in different phases can see the same nodes as you and probrably mined it before ya got to it.

Yes, that has happened to me several times around Scourgeholme. The phasing theory makes sense to me.

This is great for me that I am at 450 mining.

But the one thing about having to take multiple strikes that I liked is that when grouped with friends, and all leveling mining, you could all get a skill up off one node.

Ya, and if you've got a jello pudding cup with 5 spoons, you can let 5 people eat pudding at the same time!

Northrend is full of pudding cups...I mean...mining nodes. It's not exactly a taxing profession to level :P

Edit to add...sorry...just have to say it...

I used to run with the kinds of nice folks who would argue over who would get a mining node for skillups.

"You go for it...I'll get the next one."
"No YOU mine it...it's not that important."
"NO...just go ahead."
"OK, but I'll just take one swing and then you take one swing for skillups."
"OK, that works."

No it doesn't work you time wasting nubsausages! You're holding up a dungeon run wasting time worrying about a gathering profession skillup. Git. 'Er. Dun.

I feel better now.

Yes, in Icecrown (and any other area that has different "phases") it is possible that both you and someone that you cannot see (due to them being in a different phase) are trying to mine the same node. This is why you will sometimes only get 1 hit from a node or it will disappear before you even get to hit it.

Do I hear angels singing?? Must be! Hallelujah! For someone who has 6 miners on one realm and 3 on another, I am thrilled for this change!

Give patch NOW!

I'm actually not sure whether I like this change.

For one, I usually go on a mining spree to do a bit of in-game relaxing; I fly around and mine now and then. This means I'll spend a lot more time flying around than actually 'cashing in'. Also, one mine is now all I need to find out if the vein gave me any gems or other rare loot. This completely takes away the tension. As it is now I sometimes find myself saying "come on, just one more ore from this vein and I'll end up with exactly 20 bars". I can actually get enthousiastic when I indeed dó get one more ore.

Meh, in the end I suppose the change is good, but I can definitely see some cons here.

Well you don't have to loot it, just swing away and don't loot, then your buddy can swing away and not loot and so on.

Mostly in Icecrown and Storm Peaks, doing some quests will change the phasing of certain areas, so mobs that used to be there are gone, and there are new ones now. You can still see the first phase of a place when you're flying in, but then it changes to the one that you're on.

This is pretty cool. Only 1 downside that I can see and that's sharing a node for skill ups but oh well.

Yes, I did, a couple of nights ago. No-one was there, it remained on the ground long enough for me to dismount, hit it a few times then it just faded away.

I have a couple in my guild who both went to IC at the same time, in a party together, but could not see each other despite being pretty much side by side.

I know I thought someone was some how stealing nodes in front of me for a while. The node would be there and I would be hitting it and poof gone. I almost called a GM but someone mentioned that it could be an instance thing.

I'm pretty sure you don't get the skill up until the looting is complete.

I don't think you have to loot to get it actually. At least you didn't have to. I've gotten the skill up while the window was still open.

You do, and you always have. It's much more noticeable if you have scrolling combat text (showing your skillups) and don't auto-loot. You'll see the message before you grab the ore.
