Subject: In-Game Knowledge Base

We're pleased to announce that the Burning Crusade expansion will come fully loaded with an all new in-game knowledge base. This easy-to-use information resource will contain extensive details pertaining to all areas of World of Warcraft. We'd like your help in testing out this knowledge base, which can be accessed by clicking on the "Help Request" option (red question mark) located near the "Main Menu" button.

Be sure to submit any bugs that you come across, as well as suggestions that you believe might be useful by using the in-game bug/suggestion option (blue "B" icon) located near the mini-map on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Happy testing!

This sounds really cool, how far will they go with this do you think?

How stats works?
Combat mechanics?
Skill lists?
Mob database?
Locations of every inn/town/NPCs?

I'm not sure, but I'm rating you up because I had been wondering what that blue B icon was in screenshots I saw from the beta. :)

I am sure this will be a good thing, but how many people will use it. I will guarentee that we will still be seeing "How do I make gold!?" and "Where is Badlands?" posts everyday.

Good idea for the veteran players that have the know-how to be proactive and have that little tool, but I feel a minority will be using it regularly, if at all.

Reminds me of the Ufopedia from ufo: enemy unknown.

*takes a walk down memeory lane for a bit and picks up tea and a danish while he's at it*

If its half as useful as that was i'd be happy. If not, at least its something to read while you're waiting for 50 nightscape headbands to be made.

More likely it will be the same information that's already on their website, such as the different races, classes, professions, skills, etc.... basically an in-game user's manual. I don't expect to see an in-game Allakhazam anytime soon... :)

Until someone tells me otherwise, I would assume it would not have the sort of information we have at this site because a game developer would not want that info available THAT easily, from within the game. It's rather immersion-breaking. If I decide to alt-tab out and "cheat" to look up a quest, or find out more about where an item drops, that's an entirely different matter. Expect it to be very general info is my bet.

I'm going to throw a guess in that it will record monster data like Health/Mana/drop/attacks based on your dealings with them. So it will basically act like a second memory. It could also record quests and record PvP scores cross-server wide.

So perhaps you start with the basics, but there's "???" areas that are filled by you finding out the information yourself. You find out some creature has "X" Health by killing it, and it dropped a "X", so that's filled in one of the "???" item drop areas.

It'll probably also include a list of terms, to an item Encyclopedia and craft listing... all of which you fill in yourself. The data is stored on your personal PC, so when you switch characters or servers, you have the data to go along by.

As in, this will probably be a manual and a fill-in-the-blank kind of informational tool.

More memory needed and nothing to help me < old UI.

Bad idea Blizzard. I just don't see the use.

Well we do not know for sure if this is something that tracks data as you uncover it. If it's a data base that is already there, then accessing would be a load on demand function, thus no memory usage unless it's actually being used.

I doubt it will do that much (Have you looked at a list of items on alla that any given mob can drop?), but I'd really like to see some PvP records and things like that. Duel record, Total Deaths, Total Honorable-Deaths (Where the person killing you gained honor), and BG records would be pretty sweet. And it'd have to be viewable by others, prolly on your honor tab, so when someone talks about how leet they are you can find out for yourself.

Well, that would be sweet I think.

The knowledge base does not contain any information about mobs, quests etc.

Here are some screenshots I took of the KB as it is now:

I would love a feature like this.
Especialy that your character learn about the enviroment he/she travel and face mobs, pick flower or mine for that matter. Would be nifty to have differenet counters for mob kills, collected ore, collected flowers, linen cloth etc.
Now the only information available is were you have been .... i want more info! :-).

like in the good old Diablo days where you got more informatino regarding mobs the more you killed of them.

The Blue "B" icon on the edge of the minimap is for bug reporting. WHen you click on it, it starts the bug reporting UI, and places your coordinates into the bug report. I don't think this feature will make it into the final version...

The Knowledge Base contains (and i think it will contain) just Common FAQ (so far Q&A for something like "How do i cancel my account" or "How do i find class trainer"), nothing else. It's obvious try to get rid of ppl paging GM for something like "Why i cannot fly when i am in pirate costume?".

While it might be good and nice for beginners, for any (even slightly) advances player, it's not of use.
