i've been getting into battlegrounds lately and have been playing a lot of warsong gulch. i'm a frost mage right now and i'm not having much fun with it cause i keep dying and i want to actually have a chance at capping the flag. i've done some reading up on a couple of strategies... 10-0 zerg, 7-3, 3-6-1 (http://www.worldofstrats.com/WarsongGulch/tabid/69/Default.aspx)

do some classes work better at capping the flag under certain strats? or do you think theres an overall best class for doing this?

thanks mates

My gnome rogue was intent on getting Battlemaster, which required considerable rep from WSG...which means caps, there's no other way to get rep. And since the alliance seemed more interested in getting HKs in the middle, I took to running the flag myself. I now have over 400 caps, though that doesn't stop some players trailing me saying 'gief flag' or insisting I let a 'tank' take it. I got Iron Man the hard way (as opposed to having a druid run the flag then hand it over at the base).

The class is largely irrelevant, I think. Druids probably do better than most, rogues have tools to stay out of the way and avoid damage, and gnomes have one more (Escape Artist racial), but I've seen all classes score under the right circumstances. It depends more on choosing the right moment and the best route...and getting a good team.

That page won't load and there's for-profit gold guides on it... Smiley: disappointed

If you want to be a flag-capper person roll a blood DK and/or get a friend to heal you.

Loaded for me, it's got some reasonable discussion of strategy for wsg and AB, amongst other things, such as reviews of purchasable gold guides. They're not gold sellers, and while I can't see the point of paying for readily accessible and often rather obvious advice, it's not a crime to provide something some other mug will pay for.

Oh, and if you want to be a flag-capper, roll a gnome rogue and play it well.

Just as long as they don't try to advertise it here.

Ahh, well then it's probably some of the anti-internet-cooties addons I have running. I get a "404 Not Found" over the whole main part of the page.

Frost is great at higher levels. For lower levels you're looking at druids, shamans, and rogues. Paladin's at least use to be, but they are a pain in the **** now. At least in my experience.

I decided to do an experiment of my own. It comes in two parts:

1. Playing twenty 20-24 level bracket Warsong Gulch battles
2. Recording the top fifty players on Rated Battlegrounds at (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/pvp/battlegrounds/). I recorded the class and whether or not they achieved "Capture the Flag", "Quick Cap", and/or "Ironman" achievement.

Results:

1. The results from my experiment in twenty level 20-24 Warsong Gulch battles revealed that Hunters (captured the flag 23% of the time), Warriors (17% of the time), and Paladins (13% of the time) were the classes that captured the flag the most.

2.

a. Capture the Flag: Warlocks and Warrirors earned this achievement the most (7 out of 50 for both) followed by Druid and Mage (6 out of 50 each)

b. Ironman: Warriors earned this achievement the most (7 out of 50) followed by Deathknights (6 out of 50)

c. Quick Cap Warriors (7 out of 50) earned the Quick Cap achievement the most. Followed by Druid, Mage, Rogue, Warlock, and Deathknight (5 out of 50 each).

What was interesting is that no Hunters were in the top 50 players for Rated Battlegrounds

Conclusion:

It would appear as though Warriors are the best class for capturing the flag. Specifically Arms specced Warriors followed by Protection specced Warriors.

Just thought I'd share my findings with you guys! And yes, I know that my experiment was extremely limited due to the fact that I only played level 20-24 battles.

My dwarf pally was great at flag capping, sometimes I capped all three in one match. Tons of health plus I can heal :P
