As MoP draws to a close, I find myself trying to fill out a roster of alts in order to have options when WoD hits. The thread about medals being required for WoD Heroics jogged my elderly musings in the direction of scenarios. Rather than clutter that thread, here's another. Pop your CDs, don't let the Wall O'Text crit. The AQI is still rated at Hazardous so I'm going to prop myself up with coffee and dream. It's probably bad that I'm happy it has dropped all the way down to 320 from 433. Yes, dropping roughly 25% still leaves us in Hazardous. In the time it took me to type this, it has gone up 10 points

Scenarios, how do they fit with your game play? Personally, I like them, but I also find them a bit awkward. I like them because I like something that doesn't follow the usual trinity model. Sure, sometimes you zone in, see two other shadow priests and at least one leaves group. Sometimes though, you'll see people change specs or try to find ways to make an odd group work, and I like that. What I find awkward is that they fill a fairly narrow niche. They've become another flavor of daily, and because they are focused on particular points of a story, I feel like they haven't held up particularly well to that.

That brings us to WoD, what would you like to see from scenarios next expansion? I'd like to see a handful of scenarios that don't represent a major plot point, something with a bit more depth than a daily quest (go kill X Hozen) but less pretentious than a 5 man (X was only a set back). Currently, the Arena of Annihilation works well enough for me in that respect. I don't know, maybe do something based off of the various rares, tweaked a bit to be three manned? For example, queue for the random scenario -- let's call it "Making Your Mark". Your group zones in an instanced version of a rare spawn site -- for this example, let's use Skritch. Clear your way through the village, fight buffed up versions of some of the mobs, then face a buffed version of Skritch for your random goodies and a shot at a Hozen Peace Pipe. This isn't incredibly different from the way rares on Timeless work (at least on our servers), a rare pops up, people see the skull appear, everyone rushes to tag it. The difference is that it would be instanced as a scenario, you get a random shot at a rare and three of you have to take down a tweaked version instead of 40 people trying to zerg a rare for the tag.

OK, it would probably be too much work to implement, but I'd like to see random scenarios related to the Garrisons. I'd like to be able to actually queue one of my minions and some AI support to do something related to the garrison. I gather that we will be able to send our troops out for things that happen largely out of sight, but hey ... I like pet battles. I'd like to have the option to take over the garrison blacksmith, go out with a couple of soldiers and rescue a wagon load of supplies. You know, the things that used to be our speed 40 levels ago. That isn't really a major case of nostalgia, I just feel like it is a more entertaining option to another round of stealing vegetables from a bunch of monkeys or worse yet jousting.

If you made it this far, thanks. Let's hear your ideas!

I don't do them often anymore, since they offer almost nothing useful to me at this point. I have the items for the Brawlers Guild bonus bosses, I've completed all the achievements in there (sans Proving Grounds since I can't be ***** to farm up/optimize my equip for that), the gear in there isn't interesting for some time now and I usually get Valor-capped without them easily, just following my normal weekly routine.

I sometimes do them to help a guildie get some quick Valor or equip an alt because they don't take very long and give a decent amount of gold. But that's it.

For WoD I would like less things like the Brewfest scenario, which always seems to take forever without being difficult in any way. I really hate the RNG based achievements they put into some of them (again Brewfest). Apart from that they were fine for me. I'd like a return of itemlevel restrictions for the heroic scenarios because I don't want to have to armory check the other guys from /trade to make sure they have more than 300k HP. And yes, itemlevels can be cheesed. No reason to make it even easier for freeloaders.

I'm not sure I understand your comment with the Shadowpriests correctly. If you mean that certain role requirements still exist (if not a tank at least a plate DD) there's some truth to that. At this point I could solo even the heroic scenarios, but when the normal scenarios were 'current' content for me at the beginning of the expansion I had a hard time tanking some of the tougher mobs in there (I play a Shadowpriest).

My comment about the shadow priests was an example of things that really don't fit the trinity model, to the extent that some don't even want to try, but solving the problem is part of the fun scenarios offer for me.

Priests, our tank spec is Discipline, right? Smiley: lol At least, that's what I usually respec to when I look around and see two other cloth DPS and no Voidwalker.

They needed better chances to drop actual things from the bags.

Back in the day when I did them, I'd get a useful item out of a bag maybe 1 in every 20+ scenarios I did had an actual piece of gear in the loot bag.

And even then, usually, it was the 450, despite the possibility of 463 and 476 existing too. And then, when they started making purples easier to get, it was a "why even do this?" when you could do a Heroic Dungeon in about the same amount of time (if you were lucky enough to be a tank or healer) for far better reward chances and about the same amount of Valor.

And now, in 5.4.... Scenarios have sadly fallen way behind, there's almost zero reason to even do them today. 476 gear is laughable when the Timeless Isle suits you up in a whole suit of 496 + 489 weapon, and when you can buy 522 from the Shado-Pan Assault, etc, etc.

They needed to update the items that drop from Scenarios to keep them relevant. Now they are a "I'm bored and need to do something" thing, but even then... you might be better off just logging off WoW.

Oh, and... the main reason to repeat them? Valor? Once you buy a whole suit of Shado-Pan Assault gear (which doesn't take long if you're doing the Isle, given you get 550 a week from Timeless Isle alone), they're useless.

That's so accurate it is pretty sad, even more so because the Timeless Isle drops not only render scenarios (more or less) useless but also heroic dungeons, and even LFR (except the SoO portions). This refers only to the gear drops, of course. LFR still serves a purpose for completing the legendary quest.

The only way in which scenarios are still useful is if you use them to gather Valor quickly by chain-running heroic scenarios and always meeting the bonustimer.

(yay 700!)

LFR ToT is 502, which is better than Timeless 496 and you don't get Pure Hit, or Pure Expertise on LFR gear, and if you get lucky enough you could possibly get a 2pc bonus if you go deep enough into LFR ToT and get a couple token pieces.

The Isle is only good for a 535 Trinket, and the off chance you maybe, might get a Burden of Eternity and even then, 9 chances out of 10 it will be a Pure Hit/Exp item anyways and you'll feel horrible because the primary stats are good, but even after reforging, you still are way over-cap on Hit or Exp.

Or, lulz, my one paladin has a Pure Crit 535 on somewhere. Pure Crit. On a -Paladin-. I suppose it's better than Pure Hit, but not by much.
