I don't remember much either, some play on a divine wind thing I thought? Cata you had to buy the license but that was it.

MoP just got on my nerves because they dropped you into that maze they called "Jade Forest." Freaking giant Chinese Garden designed by sociopath. You could always see where you needed to go, but getting there without falling off a cliff was another matter. Smiley: glare

You could fly in all Cata zones. As for MoP I have no clue what the reasoning was. But I'm sure it was compelling!

Maybe it's just me but when I'm in a hurry to get to point A, whatever my reasons, I don't appreciate the landscape no matter what means of transport I use. Doesn't matter if I'm flying or riding on the ground or running (before level 20) or using the flightpaths. I want to get to my destination and everything else is being ignored. Or killed if necessary. But when I just idle around, chatting with my guild, then I often appreciate the beauty of a zone or a city or whatever. And then again it doesn't matter what means of transport I'm using. So for me a good portion of their argument goes out of the window.

Of course, I may be just special in this regard.

Edit: Missed a word and still was too slow. Smiley: frown

And to be fair, I hated the fact that MoP started out with this aerial battle thing, and then you were on the ground in the middle of a warzone with TONS of aggressive mobs, and no flying mount available.

Though I'd also say a big problem there (or as it seemed to me) was that the area population was low at that point (7-day trial open), and yet the mob numbers seemed to be at launch levels. It was hard to be fighting just one mob at once, and I VERY quickly got fed up. Logged out... and that was that.

MoP -- ... and you can handle a kite.

Of all the dumbass flight path mounts they could have given us, they gave us freakin' kites, man. What the hell? I'm okay with magic carpets, broomsticks and even that nonsensical rocket that can hover mid-air without any kind of VTOL capabilities, but KITES?! Oh, yeah, it looks like a real kite, but someone stuck a rice lamp at the bottom of it, and now you can fly it like an airplane. Makes sense, right?

It's like they're not even trying, anymore. Just put giant cannons at each flight point and have the cannon blast you in whatever direction you wish to travel.

I'm certain the goblins are working on this.

They didn't really give an excuse for MoP. You just... bought it. The ability was called "Wisdom of the Four Winds".

In Cata, you could fly in the new areas at launch, as long as you bought the Azeroth flight license available at level 60. Bashiok recently wrote this:

Quote:
We allowed flying during Cataclysm because as those zones were mixed-in with the 1-60 world it just would have been really jarring to dismount you as you fly into Hyjal, etc. but we would have disallowed it for Catalcysm zones as well if there was a reasonable solution there.

Full post here.

Edit: And Maz, that kite flight path mount is available as an actual mount for players, too.

20 man raiding is a huge deal, especially for my guild. We're having to recruit double the number of people we have and/or merge guilds, and that itself is a huge pain in the ***. The only way they were going to save 25-mans was to make it the only option - it seems like that's the route they went.

Most definitely.

Much easier for 25 man guilds to trim some fat than it is for 10 mans to recruit.

That isn't even diving into the fact that 25 man guilds are like finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn. The erosion of 25 man raiding in this expac is ridiculous. It would have been the equivalent to bringing 40 man raiding back in WotLK.
